Hi there! I really enjoyed your video. Thought I would share my saga and see if you or anyone else may have some advice for me. I am NOT a mechanic...not even a shade tree mechanic. Up until this point I think the biggest maintenance project I ever worked on was replacing a radiator one time. I recently bought a 2007 dodge magnum and within 2 weeks of getting it the timing belt broke (at idle). Had it towed to a repair shop where they just told me it was "hyrdolocked". I said, "Is that bad?", He said, "about as bad as it gets." Dejected, I towed it home and decided to start taking stuff apart. I confirmed that the timing belt had broken as suspected, but it had wrapped tightly around the crankshaft 3 times so maybe it didn't bend valves? After 2 hours of cutting the belt away from the crankshaft I replaced the water pump and timing belt and reassembled it. It started right up but there was a little "ticking" sound. I don't know if I would call it a "knock" but not a normal sounding noise regardless. I think that I possibly didn't have it timed perfectly so I disassembled it and re-tried it a couple more times and still could not get the timing marks to align exactly perfectly after tightening everything. (1/2 tooth off on drivers cam) after pulling pin on tensioner and tightening everything. I figured I would dig deeper just to see if there was some other type of damage. Since I had some time I watched some videos on how to take the cylinder heads off. I did that. There was some carbon on the top of the pistons and I could see where there were some "valve marks" (very light) on the top of the pistons. I then purchased a "valve steam removal tool" which was an absolute nightmare but I eventually figured it out. I pulled all the valves out and inspected them and they seem fine. I spun them in my drill press and they all seem straight and true. Which has led me to this video! I assume I should still lap them in even if they were not leaking in the first place? Is there any possibility that a valve can be bent to such a small degree that it is not noticeable. I did a leak test and not a drop out of any of the valves (intake or exhaust) after 30 minutes.

did you do a leak test or a leak down test?

@@Project380 just a "leak" test once I had the cylinder heads off. With fluid in the exhaust and intake ports.

@@Project380 just a "leak" test is I guess what it would be called. Just checked with fluid in the exhaust and intake ports to see if any leaked out of the valves when they were closed. I pulled the heads at Top Dead Center and then poured liquid into the exhaust port, turned it so that any fluid would leak out exhaust valves (2 of them per cylinder) waited 30 minutes no leak from valve. Then I did the same thing on the intake side. ( I did this before I pulled the valves out)

@@tobysmithtonvilleshire1971 google cylinder leak down test this would be more accurite and can test for valves, stem seals, and other seals, also rings
