I liked and subscribed. I like the way you describe things. It's very clear and has just the right level of technical detail. Camera shots are pretty good, too. If I could suggest any improvement, I'd say maybe a little editing to delete the parts where you walk from one part of your shop to another and any dead air time. Otherwise great, and I look forward to your future educational videos.

I'm no expert, but I think thats the installation tool. I think you should have to drill out the old guides. But, if it works, it works. Drilling is probably easier. A lisle 59000 tool kit i think is the proper tool for removal.

@@themechanic6117 Thanks! I have my buddies 2012 5.7 challenger that we cammed and the person he had do the headgaskets did them backwards. While going in to do them the right way I found that one of the guides is broken and half of it is just sliding around on the valve. I have a press available and the tool that you used. I can heat up the head with a torch or heat gun and freeze the new guide. If its anything like pressing in and out a wheel bearing it should be smooth. What are your thoughts?

Et rectification siège de soupape....

A $1 5x50mm Allen bolt and a drift will work too and you won't bend the tool either. Now the tool head is bent (it doesn't slip down the guide 100% anymore as you've found out) it will gall the softer bronze guide when you try and install it as the bend will have to correct itself using the ID of the guide and it will scar the guide. Also use a 3lb mallet as it does not have a hardened face like a hammer and wont chip anything like a punch or a grade 8 bolt. That's a great price for that tool, just a design that is prone to bend the turned down end if you don't hit it exactly square with the mallet.

On a junk head, ok, whack away. If working on a good head- it's best to use this to press guides in & out. No risk of cracking or slipping a hammer, shocking blows like that crack aluminum very easily. If you don't have an Arbor press, either use your car, or take it to a Machine Shop. Slow, steady pressure is just as effective.

I like living dangerously so I will have a go replacing guides on a 4.7L dodge with a lathe-turned driver, and pre-heating the heads to around 300F if I recall. If I go overboard with heat I know the seats will start falling out by themselves. I will have to research the guide lubricant, and I know the new guides need to be chilled, preferably with dry ice but perhaps just a freezer will do it. I have seat cutters to clean up the oem seats, I'm not brave(?) enough to mess with the seats.

@archygrey9093
@archygrey9093 2 жыл бұрын
@@tamar5261 I imagine it would also be easier to accidentally warp it on the bbq from uneven heating too, also it would be much safer and easier to physically handle out of the freezer, I've heated quite a few parts and someone or something almost always ends up getting burnt. If someone doesn't have a big enough freezer then perhaps a couple of bags of ice dumped on top would work. Thats if freezing does actually work, I've only used freezing so far for getting new bearings on.
