It's a similar note with prices where indie games have advantage for being cheaper. Newer AAA games have been criticized for being expensive especially with the release of the PS5 and Xbox Series X raising the prices to $70 (similar to when the Xbox 360 and PS3 raised them to $60) more so with games having DLC (which itself is already an issue), season passes, and multiple editions (about two or three) where the new game could end being very expensive.

The .20 update fixed the graphical issues for a lot of people and recording was also added in that update. I personally haven’t had any of these problems. I feel sorry those who have had them.

Lol I haven't had any problems with the latest update either with pc games & non pc games. They sorted out all the issues I've had with the last 3 or 4 main releases.

Same here, 0 issues, actually the only odd thing I have seen since my first update to 3.6 is that the VRAM stated 8GB, which is physically impossible. However, last night update corrected that minor issue and now show the correct value 4GB (which I manually configured on my bios).

I really wish Valve would upstream their wifi and bluetooth drivers to the mainline kernel. Steam OS has many annoying flaws that don't exist in linux desktop. I would much rather install mint and use that instead. I know I can tweak it to make it work but it's such a pain to do so.

I'm on 3.6.20 on LCD 512GB. Have had no issues so far with using it as a desktop and on TV with JSAUX dock, at least it feels as stable as 3.5 on my device.

same. But I have to say, that I saw more crashes when having my undervolting in with -30mV , which ran full stable the time on steamos 3.5. with 3.6 crashes started, so i turned off the undervolting and now everything is fine!

I've experienced major performance regression on Deep Rock Galactic Survivor. Used to get stable 60fps (a bit less when more enemies were around), and after the update it couldn't hold more than 30-40fps at all times. Disabling screen tearing/frame limit on the right-side menu fixed it for me. Cyberpunk is another one that for me has been really hard to enjoy on the deck since this last update. Even with the steam deck preset, and FSR and FG turned on, altough it shows 60fps or more at some times, it feels like it has less fps than without FG and FSR, becoming incredibly choppy....

It's always fascinating hearing people that had issues with updates when i never did. I did hear about the issue with the dock on 3.5 but its something i never encountered despite using it 4 times a week for 12 hours at a time, every week.

I had a problem with the latest update, but it was probably correlation and not causation, but my Steam Deck had a hardware failure that caused it to freeze and occasionally artifact, every time I boot the Deck. I tried rolling back the firmware, resetting the BIOS, swapping out the SSD, removing the SDcard, but nothing worked. I contacted Steam Support and they agreed that it was hardware failure and they quoted me a fix that would cost as much as a used Deck, because it was out of warranty. I am beyond annoyed with Valve and the Steam Deck. Hardware failure 2 years in is not ideal and it left a very bad taste in my mouth. I don't want to fork out the money to fix it and I don't think I even want to get a new Deck or the Deck2. I'm just absolutely devastated.

A fair amount sounded more like whining about the one game he plays a bunch having issues too. Like I get it, it sucks when the game you want to play isn't working great after an update but you can still play it on another PC or just play a different game for the night maybe. It'll be fixed eventually

3.6 has been good for me so far. I’m over halfway through Jedi Survivor. It has some stutters in the open world and during cutscenes but I’m enjoying it.

I haven't had a single issue since the update. I play Warframe with my spouse every night on my lunch break at work, and usually play either in the morning or when i get home late. Ran a few other games with no issues.

I heard the OLED model has inferior WLAN/BT chip quality as in stability. Even my LCD Deck has WiFi issues sometimes. Really hoping they would use a more stable chip or could work with Realtek to make a better driver for the Steam Deck 2.

Ever since the update no mans sky continues to download vulkan shaders (5.8 gigs worth every time I boot up the steam deck,I even uninstalled it and re installed it and it still does it every time but the total size on the deck never changes smh

The only thing I experienced with the update was severe crashing no matter what game i was in or not in a game at all. It was about 5 minutes and the whole deck would shut off. Steamdeck support couldn't give me an answer why except for mt to shut off the new fan control setting.

AMOLED is a step up from OLED not a downgrade lol, it is brighter and sharper than OLED, plus they can have a higher refresh rate than OLED

I keep forgetting the Steam Deck is a PC. I bought Resident Evil 4 Remake, ran fine before update. After update I had to make the game look like soup just to play.

Had an update for Steam OS 3.6.19, then I tried to play some Rise of the Tomb Raider. Major performance downgrade with lots of stuttering and loud fans (it used to run silent on my tweaked settings). Disappointing stuff! After this gets sorted out, I will refrain from doing updates as they arrive until I've had a chance to research them, which sucks, cause you got the thing to play games, not research update issues.

So, going to the menu to downgrade the OS just reset my entire steam deck and I didn't even select one. I pressed B when they were all the same version and now I have to redownload everything.

did you try unistalling decky loader or any other add-ons you have? I had problems with the 3.5 update that unistalling decky loader fixed and I pre unistalled it for 3.6 and have had no issues. Although I did run the CryoUtilites scripts.

My first party dock doesn’t work since the update. Have a support ticket out with Valve they offered some suggestions for a fix but I haven’t had the chance to try them. Knowing now that the issue is related to the last update, I’m doubting what they suggested will fix it without another update. Good thing I mostly play handheld.

I've been having problems with external drives and SD cards losing their mount point, I'll fix it and then have to rollback the version of the os in order to get back to gaming mode. Spent the weekend and the last two days trying to figure it out and after it also stopped accepting my sudo password I gave up.

I did have a problem when upgrading to version 3.6, the system rebooted and never started SteamOS again, it stayed on the “verifying installation” screen. The solution (for me, at lest) was factory reset.

It's hard to tell if it's a genuine bad Windows/PC version or poor Deck optimization. An issue with the Steam Deck since its release stems with most games being developed for Windows with no regards on how it performs on Linux let alone the Steam Deck. Looking at some games, it's obvious they weren't tested on the Steam Deck if there are issues that occur on Linux/SteamOS but not on Windows. For example, Electronic Arts in late 2022 replaced Origin with the EA app which caused issues with the Steam Deck although to be fair with EA, the app and none of their games were ever released on Linux (and by extension supported the Steam Deck), suggesting that EA didn't test if the app/games worked under Proton since they only support Windows (and macOS in the case of The Sims 4). Of course, any games that struggle on Windows could also have issues with the Steam Deck as seen with The Last of Us Part 1 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor when they first came out. As for modern games, I do wonder if the higher system requirements could factor in the poor performance especially with the Steam Deck using integrated graphics instead of dedicated NVIDIA or AMD graphics used in gaming desktops and laptops. That could make sense with games moving to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S which in turn often lead to PC games with higher graphics requirements.

It's not necessarily better, it just uses Samsungs pattents so it is supposed to be better, but it all depends on which year the panel is from. For cheapness sake I would expect them to have some pretty outdated models

I know that this KZbin is using an OLED steam deck and I've noticed that in general it seems like the OLED steam deck has more bugs than the LCD steam deck so maybe the people reporting that they aren't having issues are using LCD decks and it's more stable for some reason.

If they dont help, a solution that worked for me was reflashing the bios chip. Search papi diy on youtube for the tutorial.

Sorry you've had a shit experience but there seems to be a lot of people that haven't had any issues with the update. I really dislike these witch hunt videos especially when you haven't really made it clear in your video that you tried to diagnose these issues. Something could have gone wrong with the update on your device (it happens, shit doesn't install properly) and there are definitely things you could have done to work out if it's a specific issue to your device.
