My plea to valve on behalf of all of us:
WE NEED TO FIX THE CHEATING ISSUE RIGHT NOW.
Counter Strke 2 easily has the potential to be as good or better than CSGO ever was.
If your first hand experience is awful cause of a bunch of deluded cheating c*nts, then we risk losing out on an entire generation of CS players.
We can't afford that.

I agree with you 100%, Mr. Pimp. I used to be a hardcore Cs 1.6 player since 2003 and have played CSGO for 3,5k hours. Right now, I'm 35 and the father of a 4-year-old daughter. I'm a casual player ATM. I just wanna enjoy the game and relax in the evening with my friends. I'm too old to get nervous because of cheating people without honour and respect to other players.

To be fair I can’t agree valorant is more fun I played a lot of it when it first came out, but what I definitely will agree with is you can play multiple thousands of hours in valorant and never once come across a cheater. I played 3k hours of valorant and saw literally 1 cheater. There’s something to be said about the kernel level anti cheats. They are in every single competitive game, and have been for years. No one actually gives a fuck about the kernel level, everyone cares so much more that there are no cheaters. It works, we need it.

Sadly many Counter-Strike players that go way back are either blind to the cheating issue or cheating themselves. I remember a buddy inviting me to play 1.6. I had never played Counter-Strike in my entire life and was more of a arcade shooter gamer. I'm talking quake 3 Arena, return to Castle Wolfenstein, and Wolfenstein enemy territory. So there I am at 1.6 and I could not hit a fucking thing. It went on for days like this. And then my buddy noticed one day that I kept moving. "Bro you can't move, You have to stand still to shoot and be accurate" The premise, the idea itself, blew my fucking mind. "What kind of a dumb game makes you stand still to shoot." Mind you I was an arcade shooter. All we did was run and gun. You had to learn to trace players while moving yourself. Sort of like OverWatch and OverWatch 2. So I start to get a little better, I knew how to aim and now I knew the standstill when shooting. My main issue was learning maps. Map knowledge is King in Counter-Strike. Eventually I was doing pretty well. But I noticed people kept killing me through walls. 1.6s biggest issue was that all walls were bangable. You can be running from t-spawn to long A on dust2 and the CT player at long can literally shoot you through the wall. And no there was nobody mid from CT. Legit wallbang. The game would even say wall bang in the kill feed. Move up the source. I now have a team. We played Cal open. We lost, technically disqualified for missing matches because two of our teammates refused to show up. The three games we did play, we won two out of three.... Not bad. If we actually kept the schedule we could have actually gone far. Eventually we just stuck to surf servers because we were so bored with cheaters. Counter-Strike global offensive. When it first came out all the source players didn't want to switch. Literally they said CS:GO is trash and they would never quit playing source. Perfect. Because that mean all the cheaters stayed on source. In the beginning of CS:GO was glorious. Eventually we got a ranking system and I climbed that fucking leaderboard like it was nobody's business. I'll send it done I was global elite rank for over a year closer to 2 years. And then the first wave of cheaters came. You knew because you heard about it from everyone. I dropped a rank. Then valve decided with the new uptick of players they had to rebalance the ranks. I dropped a rank. More cheaters flood the game and I dropped another rank. Valve does another rebalance and I drop another rank. After all was said and done I was around legendary eagle / legendary eagle Master.... I had an injury. Didn't play for 6 months. Most of that time was spent in the hospital and in rehab. Eventually I come home and start playing Counter-Strike again. I'm instantly given Golden Nova. Okay weird. Try to rank up in every couple of games you get that fucking cheater that just absolutely doesn't care. And you lose miserably. And you don't rank up. Eventually it got so bad that it actually put me down into the silver rank. I don't belong in silver's. My map knowledge is impeccable. I check corners. I know smokes. Something was wrong. I quit CS at that point and focused on world of Warcraft. CS2 beta. First you have the invite wave. Then you have the wave where as long as you are prime enabled and have a rank you are allowed in. Great, I was around Golden Nova at this point and CS:GO playing off and on maybe once a week to once a month. Playing in the beta felt great. At first you had to learn to turn all the graphic settings down because Valve just fucked up. Settings on absolute minimum, 500 plus FPS, everything's going good. No cheaters in sight. And then you hear about it in the news. Cheaters in the beta. Streaming on KZbin. Don't even care that they're cheating. Play my next game no cheater. The game after that, to blatant cheaters. Then valve at an update that completely fucked AMD graphics cards. Now my game stutters every match and It's literally unplayable. To the point that I just stopped playing. Eventually I learned that you could reset shader cash. This gives me one or two games of lag free stutter free experience. Play a few more games with the boys. Mostly wins mind you. AMD eventually releases a new driver, not the one You think I'm talking about. Stutters are gone. Now the starter only occurs when the match first starts. By the time warm up ends, everything smooth. Still not great but whatever. Then the game releases. Trying to get my rank I'm playing against cheater after cheater after cheater. Why are there so many cheaters? I noticed a pattern. Before 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time, very low chance of meeting a cheater. Around 5:00 p.m. you'll start to see him and after 6:00 p.m. you see them a lot. Started playing only early in the day to play against legit players. Win every game. Play at night, Gamble between a legit game or a cheater game. The cheaters are so fucking dumb. They don't realize that people like me actually learned how to play the game. We know that you can't move when you shoot an AK-47. You have to stand still. So when they literally run shoot run shoot run shoot you know something's wrong. And they'll try to gaslight you. "I'm counter strafing bro". Technically you aren't. Because if you were counter strafing, You would actually stop fucking moving. Cheaters are dumb. Then you have the wall hackers. These little twats always know where you are. The pre-line-up shots peak and shiot before you even have a chance to think. How do they know where you are? Completely blind, You change your position every round to ensure it can happen. But they do it anyway. They never throw nades or mollys, But the round you're sitting there they do, move position same thing. Every time they know exactly where you are and you're always hit with multiple needs and molotovs. No legit player plays that way. A legit player would at least throw a need that hits nobody. Throwing a molly at a known spot but nobody's there. They don't just know. Would your players always make little mistakes like that. Wallhackers can't afford to make mistakes. Which is how you can tell they are cheating. It's so obvious when you die to a cheater. I love dying to legit players. Because I think about how I need to recover, and modify how I'm playing the match, to overcome them and destroy them. A cheater no matter what you do, They always kill you. I had one CS2 match the other day, The kid was so mad that he basically started focusing on me and only me. If I'm at B site, He will go B side even though his team is rushing a. If I'm hiding, He comes looking for me. For the next 10 or so rounds my death was always from him. And it felt off. With his wall hacks I guarantee he could also see my name plate. So he kept coming for me. Which made it easier to report them. Was he banned? Nope. Cuz Valve doesn't do shit to stop cheaters. They never fucking have and they never fucking will. Even in CS:GO the whole AI anti-cheat meme. Here they had a system that was supposedly over 90% accurate in 6 months of training. And in that time they concluded that 60% of all wingman players were cheaters. That means in every match statistically six out of 10 players has a possibility of being a cheater. That's a horrible statistic. And because it's a statistic you can apply it to any video game on the market. 60% of any FPS population is going to be a cheater based off that fact from valve. That's horrible to think about. Back in the 2000s playing arcade shooters You would never imagine meeting cheaters. You probably need it one cheater once a month if that. Now you're guaranteed to have one cheater per match. FPS gaming is going downhill until there's a fix to stop cheaters out right It's going to end up a dead genre. Because people like me would rather play single player games or massively multiplayer online games instead of dealing with cheaters.

This new generation be cheating so bad. I think we all had an urge back in the day... but as a 29 y/o gaming veteran I can tell you it was a lot harder to obtain in my day than it is now. The times I tried to cheat as a kid I would wake up the next day to the entire computer filled with (youknowwhat) viruses. My generation played games on our family computers that had SEVERE consequences if you downloaded a virus. The furthest I made it in the cheating world was Cheat engine on robotrage when i was like 10. Plus we occasionally actually hung out at peoples houses and had to prove our skill rather than jumping in party chat.

The biggest thing about how many cheaters there are right now is that it both chases legit players off and creates more cheaters. I remember seeing how a massive portion of hackers in Tarkov cheat because of how many cheaters there are. I imagine it's even worse for CS considering VAC-proof cheats only cost about $8

1. Intrusive anti cheat - valve could work with faceit together 2. Personal ID verification - ESL does this since 2005, for 18 years. So why valve isn't doing it? 3. If too many people cry about it, make 1. and 2. point only a requirement for premier mode and let the cheater and people who don't care about cheater play normal matchmaking This wouldn't solve the cheating issue 100% but it would reduce the cheating issue by a huge amount. Also another point: Valve has to coperate with streaming and video plattforms like twitch and youtube. They should ban every single person who cheats or adertises cheats. Many youtube accounts with tenthousands of subs (probably botted, but still) exist.

Even valorant has cheaters, because these cheats stopped messing with the game memory. Even with a kernel anti cheat nothing will change, because the new cheats only scan the screen with a graphics card and use inputs through HID. I agree things have to change in regards of anti cheat, but a kernel like valorant is not the answer, it will only get rid of the cheats that still do touch memory.

People are just so bad at the game that they dont know what a good player can and cannot do. Almost half the games are against people who know exactly where you are all the time. Normal games seem so ez when you get the free kills from bad enemy timings etc or lurking.

When I play CS and Valorant, its quite clear just how many cheaters are in CS even if they hide it well. Players are just to aware in CS, I see people getting peaked and killed the second they stop looking at an angle multiple times every single game. Today alone I had two premier games where two players wouldn't check a single angle there wasn't a player sitting at. Yesterday on Ancient someone on the enemy team would litterally play the exact site we where pushing every single round. If we rushed A, suddenly hes A if we rushed B suddenly he is B. Fair enough this happening a few rounds a game but he did this every single round on CT without fail. I dont see to many aimbot users in CS but I see an absolute shit tonne of people using walls. Suprise suprise when I play Valorant the players play much more naturally. Its extremely obvious the difference between a good player who is pushing a side and checking angles correctly compared to someone who just sprints into site while preaiming you through a wall while your playing an off angle.

I love Counter-strike. But I've to say this: As a casual player who hits sometimes and misses other times, I've seen some players who oneshot me and everyone else instantly with a 1 AK-47 bullet from far far away (A sniper Rifle range) And they are not even shooting bam bam bam. No, just one bam... one bullet to the head instantly the moment I show up. I've seen that ridiculous scene over and over and over. Those scumbags are everywhere. They come in, they headshot everyone, and they win the game. I've even caught one of them making that bot spinning dance. They don't even hiding it anymore. And when they get banned, they just create new throwaway accounts!!!

Every noticeable Counterstrike Content Creator or Pro Player should speak more about this. The cheating Problem needs to be solved. I would even go so far that you need to identify yourself to get access to the prime matchmaking (like back in the days you had to do in the ESL in order to play ladder matches), so we can ban true identity’s and not only accounts or phone numbers etc.

Good to see this kind of feedback but unless Valve surprises all of us and does a hard 180 on their vision for Anticheats don't expect any kernel level anticheat especially because of the Linux platform and its users which Valve are heavily invested into growing to one day replace Windows as a gamers first choice for an OS. They may drop a statement that vaguely says "we hear you" but I expect them to keep continueing their efforts to build the AI machine to combat the problem, in the long term it is a bigger solution. Valves other solution is to find cheats that are DRM required and sort of price users out of those cheats so the cheat makers see less return on the amount of development cost it takes to make them as these cheats need DRM to function so they can see a monthly payment in the hundreds of dollars to use the cheats.

I don't think Steam OS has the (delusional) goal of winning against windows. From my perspective it was something to attract developers to work for the company, because I see no other reason. Appreciate you speaking out. CS2 was unplayable for me. Despite having a game collection worth thousands, 10k+ hours in all games, 14 years creation, still playing from the same location as creation, a steam inventory of 5k+, being a CS:GO beta tester etc I still had games with cheaters. It looked like 40-60% of people were cheating. The cheating problem has started to fix itself over the past week or so BUT it's still one of the biggest reasons I give myself not to play this game. "I really want to play CS2 right now. Or do I? I might have a session like last week, with bad matchmaking and cheaters. Nevermind, I'll just watch some KZbin or Twitch". If I think like this, someone who has attended IEM's and the like, and watches streams, and plays 20ish hours per week, if I am discouraged, what is a new player going to think????

The day Counterstrike introduces an invasive anti-cheat is the day I stop playing. Never played on face-it or Valorant and I never will. I also want the cheating to be solved but giving up to an invasive anti-cheat is not something I will do.

This was the main reason why I stopped already with CS:GO. In our low-level'ish group we faced cheaters (mostly WH) too often for this to be just a top-level problem. In CS strategy and tactics are exciting to execute in a group but one opponent with WH can ruin that experience and denying the joy of outsmarting your opponent. Thank you for raising the volume on this, I'd be happy to jump into CS2 but I wish Valve would take extra steps to resolve this issue first

It's hard to make a cross-platform anti-cheat like Riot does. Riot doesn't support Linux. Valve officially supports MacOS and Linux as a platform because of the Steam Deck, and writing multiple anti-cheat kernel modules is a lot of work that isn't immediately reliable.

That's great, but the majority of the player base is on a good old fashioned windows system. Start on the OS where the majority is, let the cheaters migrate to lower utilized OS and you narrow down what you are looking for in heuristic data.

Two months later and this game is still plagued with them, worse than ever actually. Between that and the other bugs this game has it's an unenjoyable experience and I mostly just play for the weekly drops at this point. It sucks because the core gameplay of CS2 is good but it needs a lot of things fixed to make it a really great game. Playing CS2 just reminds me of how much I miss CS:GO before it went F2P.

it's crazy above 15k elo, I'm 20k elo nearly every single game I play is infested with cheaters, and I am the guy who always gives the benefit of the doubt. In this case, people are just blatantly cheating. I have clips and recordings of people bhopping and hsing everyone. 1 out of 2 games I play is a hvh lobby. It's literally insane.

I used to play CS GO basically every day but now I only play CS2 1 or 2 times a week because of how slow the game is, how the aim is not working and how many f***ing cheaters I play against. Not even mentionning the fact that I got ranked in silver 3 while being Supreme in CSGO and that Valve should really do something against toxic players especially when you solo queue because being killed every round by a your 4 stacked teammates for no reason without being able to do anything else than sending a report that will never be taken in account is pretty annoying.

100% agreed man! Our group of friends had downloaded csgo a few years back after getting PCs. We played flying dutchmen for our first game (the mode where you spawn with awps in hand and can jump really high). One of the enemies was flying in the air, spinning in costant circles, and insta headshotting our entire team without making line of sight. After that experience, I came back to CS a year later with low expectations that I will play the game actively. While i did fall in love with the game by a stroke of luck, my friends cringe at the idea of downloading CS2. So please Valve...give us an intrusive anti-cheat! I cant promise my friends will pick up the game again but I can promise that you will retain more players!

Valve let go of CS and changed priorities to skins long time ago, particularly when they made the game free-to-play, they were well aware that this would attract more cheaters. The game is currently maintained by incompetent developers as it seems like they have actually rolled-back certain detection systems making it easier for cheat developers along with new features that can be abused, referring to the rampant magic bullet.

Hey Pimp, Valve likes to collect information on cheaters and understand what cheats are being used etc before they implement a solution. I think the same is happening here. If you ban these people and cheat developers straight away you'll be playing a cat and mouse game for a long time. I believe Valve will be implementing AI anticheat that was trained on the data collected from overwatch but it'll need access to the demos so I believe that's why demos are taking a while because they're integrating the two systems which is a big task. Not to mention intrusive anticheats is a big no-no and doesn't actually solve cheating, it would also deter players like myself and ruin my relationship with Valve as a respectful company (also CS2 supports Windows and Linux, which making an anticheat run on both effectively can have some technical difficulty's). Also there clearly seems to be some other problems with their anticheat at the current time with it banning players for in-game commands and banning players because of certain hardware most recently I think AMD cpus or something triggered VAC bans, so I assume there are some technical issues they're trying to resolve there as well. I agree it's a problem and shouldn't be a new players first experience, it's unfortunately that they rushed the release imo and I'm cautiously optimistic that it should be in a much better spot in the coming months.

@@myhad in someways I agree. I don't think it'll be a 'be all, end all' solution that'll end cheaters and I don't think Valve believes that either. I believe there will always be cheaters in every game. I do see it being effective against rage or blatant cheaters. My worry is let's say there's a million games being played a day I don't see how it'll process all of that in a timely matter so there's a possibility that there will still be delayed bans. Valve has a lot of different implementations though and not all their eggs are in the 'AI anti-cheat basket'.

The problem with intrusive anti-cheat is two-fold, foremost as a software engineer its a horrible solution to the problem, the game becomes a rootkit and destroys any capacity for your system to be secure, there's already been cases of kernel level anti-cheat opening holes in the kernel and this is a massive security risk. (not to mention its a privacy violation, but no one ever cares about that) The second problem it seems is that Valve, and most likely Gabe Newell, appears so far to despise kernel level anti-cheat, there's a reason Valve has never done it and why they don't integrate any such software into any of their games, its an overzealous and very hack solution to the problem. It also is a very corporate solution, which Valve is never likely to do, and Valve employees certainly don't feel compelled to do it either, Valve's company organization is not conducive to making a kernel anti-cheat, so they'll probably never make one.

I'd also like to add that when Pimp says "we already use invasive anticheats" well speak for yourself, I don't play Valorant because of its OS level kernel anticheat, I don't feel comfortable having to restart my computer so the application can run in OS level just so I can play an hour of a video game. Riot is owned by Tencent who is a big simp to the CCP, I don't feel comfortable giving that much access to my computer to China while I play a video game. Valve also doesn't support this direction, they believe a PC is personal and they should do what they can to respect peoples privacy. Gabe Newell had a Reddit post about this.

Im a solo player and played myself to 14.5k premier rating but yesterday i lost like 4 in a row with 2 cheaters in different games. Lost like 1k premier elo. Its just exhausting to play with motiviation and get shit on by some stupid cheats. I dont think Valve sees cheaters as a problem to be honest. If they did, it wouldnt still be a problem 20 years later. Seriously... I have deeply hated this aspect of the game since I started back in 1.3, and they have never fixed it. But they can. They CAN fix it. They choose not to. I will just ignore the fact that there are many cheaters and half of the bullets don't register. I had this AMD Cache lagging (0-3fps every second for about 5 minutes then goes back to 200-400) for 1 month, they fixed this. Okay... - Now my game just freezes, so I need to restart my whole PC, or sometimes "ctrl alt esc" works for closing the game, which happens every 5-15 minutes... Very nice!

It would also be a good option to make it an international law, like for example S-Korea are doing. "Countries including South Korea and China have criminalized the sale or use of cheats in video games. In South Korea, cheaters could be punished with up to 5 years in jail or fines exceeding $40,000."

What are you talking about here? Cheaters have a huge number of KZbin channels with millions of subscribers. Valve simply benefits from the presence of cheats in the game, they will not do anything about it.
