Lake Speed and the Valvoline engineers are quite exact about the chemistry of Valvoline R&Protect (VPR) oil. You need to have the chemistry of VRP working over a period of months without mixing other oils to achieve the clean result in the oil control ring area of the pistons. Must do four drain and fills with the VPR oil over time. I would recommend you follow this method. All the best on your remarkable Geo Metro longevity record. I have done this with my 2009 Camry over four drain and fills with VPR oil and it no longer burns oil. Just a note: I drained the fourth batch of oil this week and it was very clean and measured at the full mark before the drain.

@@jamesclark5461 James, appreciate the input...we will, in fact use the VR&P for the next change. Thats a given. Just gonna start using the VR&P to top off until then. I've been keeping records...and IS possible to maybe see a trend b4 the wholesale product change.

Lake Speed also says you do not know how oil will work while mixed with another oil as the chemistries of the two oils mixed have not been tested. I would recommend changing your oil instead of adding it.

@@davidchappelle3212 Soooo....I'm an old, previously A S E certified, fart...working on an old tin can of a car(that I DO in fact care about). I've found potential evidence (on youtube) that doing a complete oil swap MIGHT cause issues, as well. My father taught me the value of patience, observation...and the art of "sneaking up" on something. I respect and appreciate your concern. But, is my car and I shall do as I see fit. We have a dip stick to observe for color and level. We have an odometer and a note app to help us keep track of useage(oil AND fuel). We have previous puffs of smoke to keep an eye out for. Due to one particular video, I feel a complete oil change to this product might be a bit aggresive on such an old unit. This is in FACT just my opinion...and we shall "sneak up on it"...observing and sharing as much as we can, along the way.

@@qoph1988 Lol...what can I say? I enjoy wrenching...and I enjoy making sure my old P O S runs well. Accepting oil usage, when there might be a cure, doesn't work in my head. Also, when this thing is happy, it's a VERY efficient package. The first year I owned this car, it paid for it'self TWICE in fuel savings. So, it doesn't owe me a thing. As far as I'm concerened, those savings can gladly be churned into proper maintinance. Please consider checking out other vids on my channel. Mostly about old car and shop equipment repair.

DId you check if the PCV valve was faulty?
@500kchevrolet9Ай бұрын
@@kevinfernando3167 That's the FIRST thing I always check. From past experience, crank case pressure is a primary suspect.Certain applications, it's not just the pcv valve that can be suspect...but the vacuum source, it'self...old gm TBI units were notorious for clogging pcv vac chanells. Alot of folks couldn't understand how rebuilding(just dissasembly and cleaning) of the trottle body would fix thier oil leak. The oil leaks on the geo are now a nonissue...

The Restore and Protect should reduce oil consumption. But a full oil and filter change would be better. It would work faster.

If your car is down a quart or 2 from oil consumption can you add this to help clean the engine before doing a full oil change? Or should you not mix this oil with other oil?

If you're blowing smoke after taking off from the lights. It is most likely your valve stem seals and guides are worn.

I wish they made Valvoline Restore and Protect in a "high mileage" version with the seal swell agents for leaking crankshaft seals and hard valve stem seals. You can probably make your own by adding two bottles of power steering stop leak to a 5 quart jug of oil. I wonder if they make a Castrol Ultra Clean in a high mileage variant.
