I love "My Best Friend Is A Vampire" and for an 80's movie is actually really good still. The subtext in the movie is anything but subtle and is surprisingly well handled for when it was made. But beyond that it's just a fun movie and always great to see the late Rene Auberjonois in a film.

Odo makes for a fantastic vampire! I rewatched the movie a few months ago and had completely forgotten he was in it (it had been about a decade since I last watched it), so I was able to appreciate a character I only vaguely remembered in a new way

Cool books! Ps: I'd suggest reading YoungBlood by Sasha Laurens it's about a vampire named Cat who joins a vampire school for elite vampires, even though her mother is against it. Little does Cat know she's about cross paths with her ex-best friend Taylor Sanger.

Always love your reviews of books you recently acquired. Over the holidays I acquired the newly translated Simon & Schuster brand new reissue of The Little Vampire Volume 1(Vol. 2 will be released in April). Though unrelated to the book have you checked out on YT the new film by Film Idiot of The Vampire Next Door? For a limited budget it's getting a lot of praise.

I do not remember if you already have this book or not, but it is a nonfiction book discussing how people thought of vampires during the Middle Ages/Reformation period of England. It is called Vampires, Burial & Death by Paul Barber. I apologize if you already have a copy of this book, but I could not remember if you actually have this book or not.

Putting a 'patricide' trigger warning on a book about a woman fighting her dad sounds like a massive spoiler...
@beckstheimpatient4135 Жыл бұрын
Anything but the vaguest warnings on books can ruin the experience. Warn against violence, warn against sexual violence or abuse, but we can't get into specifics. Who the hell even warns for 'patricide'?! How is that a trigger warning relevant to the vast majority of readers?
@jaginaiaelectrizs6341 Жыл бұрын
@@beckstheimpatient4135 Because, to some people, I think maybe they confuse "content warnings" (or things that might upset or turn-off certain audiences) with trigger warnings (things that might hit a little too close to home for survivors of actual trauma).
@jaginaiaelectrizs6341 Жыл бұрын
I suppose there might be some people who would prefer to be spoiled as to the fact that certain things are coming ahead, and consider simply not knowing exactly how or why mystery enough.

I'm really curious what other reading (or media) you really enjoy. Obviously, beyond vampires you've talked about the Phantom, personifications of death, and Edgar Allan Poe. I wonder what interests might be the most different or the most surprising. When you mentioned the Many Deaths of Laila Starr, it made me wonder if you've read the First Fifteen Lives of Harry August. When Harry dies, his life always starts over again when he was a child with the full knowledge of all his previous lives. At the beginning of the book, his 11th life is drawing to a close when a little girl visits him and says, "I nearly missed you Doctor August. I need to send a message." By the way, your hair is gorgeous.

It's so bizarre for me that the 1990s could count a historical fiction now(it's so easy to think of historical basically as needing to be old enough that no one from that era is still alive-unless they're just trying to say that it's a book they think is[ or will be] some kind of monumental "historic" landmark in fiction or something). 😅🤭🤣🤣
