This movie follows sitcom logic, which is that the characters are idiots going crazy over something that real people would take in their stride. It's a classic example of the Idiot Plot, i.e., if the characters don't act like idiots, we have no movie.

the time between the mother's death and the completion of the hotel would have been over a few years at least. specialy with mavis' extended growth

Considering how vampires (apparently) age, I think a lot of the "building the hotel" happened a few years to even a decade or so after the mother died.

I also can't stand Sandler, but my issues with this movie were totally different. I somewhat enjoy the mindless cutesy kiddie-ness of the movie, I just cringe at how underdeveloped the Mavis character is (female only exists as someone's daughter then as someone's love interest), and I have a hatred of 'one twuu luv' stories.

This! You described it so well. Also honestly, Johnny is the first human Mavis ever met and while he isn't a jerk or a bad guy, he's kind of a loser manchild with his backpack and not respecting anything Dracula tells him. I guess it is a good thing that everyone in the hotel finds out that humans aren't half bad, I just don't see why Mavis would fall in love with Johnny who's really just an average dude at best. Other than that I really enjoyed the humor of this franchise.

Am I the only one here who actually thought that this was one of Sandler's "okay" movies? I mean, sure, it's not one of his best films, but it's not terrible compared to Grown Ups 1 & 2, or Blended, etc.

The thing is, it would be perfectly possible to tie together Dracula's cheeriness and his loss of his wife. Look at the "Sad Clown" page on TV Tropes (in a nutshell, a character cracks jokes to deal with their grief and/or bad situation). This would make rewatching the movie rather dark, but it would still make his characterisation make his sense.

I Love this Movie, This Dracula Version is A Reverse personality of that pure Evil Original Character, it doesnt need that complicated story plot its a movie created for children. Still I like it even as an adult. But everyone has their own say and opinion, and I respect that. ^_^ Great Vampire Reviews By the way.

eating raw faces is my least favourite thing to do. Selena Gomez is the main reason why people act like Hotel Transylvania is a great movie. She may have her moments, but she must regret having the boyfriends that are about her age and breaking up with them. She must especially regret having twenty catfights.

This was an irredeemably terrible movie, but it has interesting points: * There are real people who have grief, but hide it and pretend to be happy for the sake of those around them. * So you have a pleasure place where the weird can hide and be who they are without fear. Combine that with the fabulous outfits and lighting, and the hotel is clearly symbolic of a gay bar.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having just a light fluffy movie. Not every film needs to have a bad guy or emotionally punch you in the gut. Sometimes you just want to sit back and enjoy something cute and cozy without over-used melodrama.

I'm not disappointed with this movie either. I really don't hate Adam Sandler and I thought he would give a decent performance in this one. Also Genndy Tartakovsky directed this, the creator of Dexter's Lab and Samaurai Jack. And Selena Gomez is in this movie as Mavis aka "Mavy Wavy" and I'm fan of her from Wizards Of Waverly Placenon Disney Channel and got all her CD's with songs including Who Says and Same Old Love and yeah she's the only reason I like this movie. Heck this film does carry a story. Other movies like Madagascar doesn't need any story. Even SpongeBob. That show needs no story or messages, just nonsensical humors and characters.

I only disagree on the animation. The guy who did it who I sadly forget his name- is a real genius when he combines all the cartoony-ness of2D with what 3D can do. There's so much movement and it's so lively, I really like it too bad it sucks...

I have a very weird relationship with this film. It’s like I love everything about it... except the final product -so the film in itself! Hotel Transylvania feels like a waste of many talents and decent ideas (I’m a sucker for anything dark/spooky/halloween-related). Genndy Tartakovsky as the director still shows his skills, trying to incorporate as much cartoony movements as possible in a 3D film. The result is quite pleasing in my opinion, and serves to highlight the film’s only real source of decent comedy (slapsticks) and balance out the average 3D renders. The visual development is also great, and sadly you can’t really see it in the final production. I especially love Annette Marnat’s character designs www.pinterest.fr/pin/221591244142364526/ www.pinterest.fr/pin/363032419935462765/ i.pinimg.com/originals/84/71/30/847130cb7999c88a9ad6eeead47f7cd6.jpg and Noëlle Triaureau’s production designs www.iamag.co/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/noelle-triaureau-13.jpg www.iamag.co/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/noelle-triaureau-13.jpg www.iamag.co/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/noelle-triaureau-15.jpg TLDR: Don’t watch the film and get the Art Book! I forgot while I was watching this that it was an Adam Sandler movie, but now that I think about it, you're right about a lot of it and similarities to his other pictures. I get the feeling you simply just don't enjoy Slice-of-Life type stories, where there very rarely is any sort of enemy, it's just people living their life, and keeping that ind min, I really liked this movie ^^ Sure there were some problems, but most problems you're having seems to stem from the fact that this is a Slice-of-Life story xD Sure it has the supernatural part of being about monsters, but that doesn't mean it can't be Slice-of-Life xD But I'll agree with you on the subject of character development, we could have used some more of that, have an actual explanation for why Dracula is so cheery even though his wife just fucking died.

I hate Adam Sandler so much I probably wouldn't have watched this movie if I had known he was the star. (Because he is disgusting.) But I actually liked it. It is the story of a father learning to let go of his little girl because she is growing up. It has a plot. The main character grows. It is a very human story about a father/daughter relationship, that has nothing to do with the characters being "monsters". And there are a lot of silly jokes as well. Drama doesn't have to be epic.

I saw it in 3D and can confirm that it wasn't worth it. It's such a boring film. I wonder if Adam Sandler saw Despicable Me and thought "I want in". It's the idea of someone who's usually a villain being a goofy father figure. Drac even looks like a thinner Gru with hair.

When I a see a movie like this one I wonder why people make non-monstery movies about monsters (ok, actually I know - because it's trendy, but you know what I mean). If you want a funny story about sympathetic, loving dad you REALLY don't need a vampire. I mean, such child-friendly vampires are stripped of everything that makes them, well, vampires. Don't get me wrong, my favorite vampires of all times are father and son, but they act like vampires, not like a cute model family.

sorry but what is with all the hate for Adam Sandler just for giving his friends jobs? how is looking out for your friends a bad thing? the film industry in Hollywood is a really tough place to find work so having someone there to help you do it isn't a bad thing. that's the basis of every film maker/ actor relationship in Hollywood. hell even your work stems off it. all those appearances in nostalgia critics stuff and the colabs with Lindsy etc come on its rather hypocritical to be all hating on a guy for using his friendships to make films when you do exactly the same. and frankly its incredibly biased to dislike the film just because you don't like the guy who made it.
@kevinbacon5492

Amanda Nield Yeah but at this point it’s pretty obvious Adam Sandler only takes movie roles to get a paid vacation and a few million dollars and what does that do? It takes opportunities from people with a real passion for acting.
@amandanield5380
@amandanield5380 6 жыл бұрын
@@kevinbacon5492 and you think people like Tim Burton, Jonny Depp or Angelina Jolie dont do the same? If anyone in Hollywood really gave a toss about good acting or good film making they wouldn't fund half the films they do or hire the actors they do. Film in HW is about one thing only and that's money making they don't care if the films are good or shit. So so fucking what if Adam Sandler hires his friends to make films. If making his stupid crummy films makes him happy then go ahead. Just look at the number of people on yt who use their friends to make shit films because they hope to one day make it in Hollywood and become rich.

A movie doesn't really need conflict or an antagonist to be tense or entertaining, so I don't agree that their lack is the reason why it's not good. But a movie sure needs something more than mediocre old a sitcom plot.
@TheCyberwoman
@TheCyberwoman 5 жыл бұрын
I don't disagree with your criticisms of this film, and I hate Adam Sandler, so I'm surprised that I actually dig the heck out of this movie. I think maybe a stronger movie might have an antagonist, but I'm not sure I'm mad at what this movie is. And what I think it is, is a film about generally good people trying their best and not getting it quite right. And while yes, if have liked to see Dracula greave a little more, that's one of my biggest agreements with you, I will offer the argument that since vampires have a longer lifespans, and it's of note that 118 is of importance to them as a marker of adulthood, it's hard to say how long it was from his wife's death to wear he is in those flashbacks. It's conceivable that a full vampire baby could be an infant for a couple of years at least. Which maybe adds validity to Dracula's overprotective nature, since their emotional intelligence seems comparable to an average human's, the emotional attachment he would develop over a century might be pretty intense.
