I don't think so. As far as I'm aware, they need to drink their creator's blood to become true vampires. (And I think they might need their creator's permission to do that?)

@@bonny-at-morn unsure if you care about spoilers of baldur's gate 3 - if so, dont read further. In Baldur's Gate, you can find the skull of a previous full vampire, the past master of the now full vampire Cazador. when suceeding his challenges (the skull's), you learn, that Cazador rose up against his master and killed him, without this master wanting that. However he feels proud that his spawn followed proper protocol when it came to killing him or something along those lines.

I play a vampire spawn(not of strahd) who currently has free will in dnd in my curse of strahd campain (no spoilers pls) and its fun af. It adds so many layers to the campaign.

It's specifically for BG3. I don't know if there is any other DnD campaign that has a vampire spawn as one of the adventurer companions, as their obvious sunlight weakness would make them pretty hard to use.

Spawn would be a template, not a specific race. All spawn retain most of the traits of their original race. Provided that the trait is not negated by the vampiric form of undeath.

​​@@sunnyhill7919There is a full vampire, not a spawn, in Extended Edition of Baldur's Gate 2. Her name is Hexxat. A Chultan human rogue in life. NE, quiet and introverted. A romance option for female characters. Uses an enchanted cloak (with very severe penalties) to function in daylight. So only truly powerful in Spellhold, Underdark, sewers, dungeons and some planar locations (where she doesn't have to wear it to survive). But her vampirism gives her very useful daily abilities and immunity to death from massive damage, which is a thing in BG 1 and 2. Which in combination with her alignment makes her extremely useful in my playthroughs.

In DnD there is a few ways to cure vampirism, such as the 9th lvl spell "Wish", "True Resurrection" (only if the vampire is younger than 200 years), as well as some items I believe, that essentially have similar effects to wish.

I thought vampires would make terrible adventurers since they'd have to cover themselves from the sunlight every day. Seems kinda hard to find shelter that's well covered from the sun in the middle of nowhere every single day. Best hope to run into lots of caves or buildings (without too many windows) I guess.
