I am using ENB and SweetFX for much of the footage in this video, however, that's all postprocessing. By itself, the game still holds up very well! Source is a solid engine. Half-Life 2 still looks great to this day, which I think speaks to the strength of what Source can do.

I've played this game 2 years ago, for the first time, altough I was pretty aware of its existence, TONS of people begged me to play, for years. Eventually, I was out of games to play and VTMB was waiting on my Steam for a couple of years already (bought on some sale for a penny or two), so I finally decided to try it. I can't remember any other game in 10 - 15 years, that I completed and almost immediately started a new walkthrough, with Plus patch this time (and Malkavian : D), hell, there are few games that I replayed at all, most notably examples would be Fallout 1/2/NV, Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Demon's Souls (+ remake). This game has everything I love, there's no other RPG with such "edgy goth" atmosphere (one of the reviews described it perfectly IMO - "so goth that you shit bats"), and the soundtrack! 2 years later, I'm out of games to play again (this year were/is especially poor) and guess what? Fuck it, here we go again, but this time with Clan Quest Mod, hope it's as good as people says : D Can't get an idea to play VTMB from my head again since I played Cyberpunk and Mass Effect 2 (Omega gave me the vibes), but yeah, it's a perfect time to do so : D It's so sad, that game like this probably won't happen anymore, the closest call were Cyberpunk and little bit of Deus Ex (immersive sim gameplay and dark atmosphere), but no other similar games, upcoming or released.

Clan Quest Mod. While I love even the sheer fact of its existence, objectively, it's definitely Not for the first playthrough, even if you won't ever play the game again. There are two reasons for that: First, the quality of the quests added by it varies. Some additions, characters, locations and stories are indeed look like they were there from the start. Others can fall far below that high bar. And while the hits definitely outsize the amount of misses, those moments are still apparent. Second. If you're not a devoted member of the certain, ummm, social justice tendencies we see occupying sizeable parts of our modern world, again, some additions, dialogues and even changes to the main characters from the vanilla (like Andrei) won't strike the right cord with you. And its apparent that those changes wer fanfictioned over the existing narrative rather than been part of vanilla, because, for example, the moment your main character enters Sabbat hood, his dialogue choices often start reflecting a rather different individual. So as always, if it's your first time, play the original first, let the game have its own, personal impression on you. If you'll ever return to the game, however, Clan Quest is the right spicer to go with. And an entirely subjective opinion, do your first time as a Malkavian. "Confuse" yourself. That's how I played it the first time and that was awesome.

To me this was a game that deserved far more attention and success than it recieved. Yes, while the release version had more bugs than a Microsoft ant farm I feel that the timing of its release was against it. As mentioned here it was released two weeks after Half Life 2 (a game which has released legendary status) and as such it had little chance of catching the limelight. I personally found out about this game years after its release and I had to find community patches just to make it playable because Troika games went out of business before they could patch the game. Just imagine the difference if they had another 6 months development time.

Hey Shalashaskka, loved the video! I saw that you added a bunch of links to mods in the description, but I was wondering what specific ENB and graphics mods you used in your gameplay in this video? I saw that in another comment you mentioned using VTMB Atmospheric, but that's just a SweetFX, and I also noticed that Jeanette, Venus, and some of the prostitutes in this video look pretty different to how they normally look. Also, for whenever you play the game again, the issue with the water textures is annoying, but can be somewhat negated if you play in third person for those instances of the game.
@CultoftheCyberSkull4 жыл бұрын
First of all, thank you very much! I appreciate it! I want to say that I use VtmB Atmospheric, but I'm also pretty sure I modified the settings a little bit and I can't remember what I tweaked exactly. It was a very long time ago and I haven't touched my settings since. The models I've collected over the years, mostly from the website Planet Vampire. I know for a fact that the Jeanette model is called "Bradstreet Jeanette." Honestly, I've had them installed for so long that I forgot I even installed them in the first place. I'm just so used to seeing them in my game haha. And yeah, the water issue is a little easier on the eyes in third person, but it's not so terrible that it's mandatory. Unless you fall into the pit in the Warrens. Then you're going to have a bad time.

@@CultoftheCyberSkull Thanks for the quick reply! I've been mostly looking on ModDB and Nexus, which is probably why I've never come across some of them. I'm looking to play through the game again, and have been scouring the internet for some graphical improvements, which includes any mods that improve character models without deviating from the original character design too much, so I might end up using that Jeanette one! Honestly the Warrens are just an unpleasant experience as a whole - water-wise and combat-wise. I'm glad that so many mods have added ways to skip large parts of it; the ways Clan Quest Mod introduced to get around it were particularly interesting.

@@Chalvrek Agreed! I just think Clan Quest mod is a gem and should be experienced by everyone. Tailing Tung was a great touch. @Chalvrek4 жыл бұрын
@@CultoftheCyberSkull I think that's been finished now! If you have a high enough hacking skill you can unlock a door built into the floor of one of the tunnel areas, and go from the first level of the Warrens straight into the Nosferatu haven area. I think it actually briefly appears in SsethTzeentach's video. I'm really tempted to go back and play CQM again as a Ventrue and side with the Sabbat, cause last time I played through as an uncharismatic Gangrel and lost out on so many dialogue options. But, I think I wanna do a playthrough with just the Plus Patch first, because I've somehow never done that before!

And I actually alternate between UP and CQM, only because UP has some changes in it that don't appear in CQM and I like to keep to date with it. I wonder why White Wolf stopped development around 2004, yet still released VTM, 5th edition in 2018?
@CultoftheCyberSkull4 жыл бұрын
They shifted over to producing New World of Darkness (now Chronicles of Darkness) to basically have a fresh start and focus on developing new game lines that weren't bogged down in the minutia of old. That turned off a lot of players who really loved Old World of Darkness, and soon after, White Wolf was purchased by CCP. There was that MMO they were working on, but that was ultimately killed off and so they sort of sat on the licence for a while. Eventually, Onyx Path was able to license the oWoD branding and release the 20th Anniversary Editions (basically 4th Edition) of a bunch of the old game lines and those proved to be tremendously successful. So when Paradox bought White Wolf in 2016/2017 or so, the safe bet was to release any new books going forward under the Masquerade/Apocalypse/Ascension lines. That's more or less the long and short of it.

Not being an amazing shot, but yet still landing what you thought was a solid hit, only for the game to be like lol no try again kinda sucks. Tbh I didnt encounter that much when i played if i remember right I played a character that avoided fights and when given no option went into melee.

The history option is only present if you use the unofficial patch plus or one of the mods I was talking about in the video. The base game (or unofficial patch basic) doesn't use character histories. Hope that helps! And thanks for watching!

is it fine to run the unofficial patch plus+ with the clan quest patch?
@CultoftheCyberSkull4 жыл бұрын
Clan Quest Mod comes with an older version of the unofficial patch already installed, so you don't need to install it seperately. However, it uses an older version, so it doesn't all have all of the newer features that the latest version of UP does. Basically, I have both installed (and Bloodlines does have its own mod folders, making it very easy to switch between different mods), and just load up whichever game I feel like playing.
@d_ruggs4 жыл бұрын
@@CultoftheCyberSkull awesome, thank you for responding. I hate to be that guy and ask another question, but can you explain a bit of the difference between those 2 versions (clan quest or unofficial patch +) or why you would play one version instead of the other? Thanks again
@CultoftheCyberSkull4 жыл бұрын
@@d_ruggs It's no problem! Feel free to ask! I actually talk about the differences towards the end of the video, but basically, CQM is an overhaul that stuffs a bunch of content into the game such that it feels like you're playing with an expansion pack (but does eliminate an entire very minor quest chain or two), while UP is continually tweaking the game and adding changes and features and quality of life improvements that make the world more cohesive and fun to play. UP also gets updated much more frequently. I play both because as much as I regularly shill for CQM, I still love seeing what changes are made with the UP and seeing what's new, especially since there's a version of the X20 mod (a visual overhaul that makes the game feel more in line with the 20th Anniversary Edition of the tabletop game, you can find the link in the video description) that's specifically designed for the UP. Hope that helps clear it up!

@@CultoftheCyberSkull lol my bad dude, I thought there was another version of the mod that had even more stuff, but i was just confused, i rewatched and cleared things up. but thanks for the info, its always nice coming back to VTM:B after a few years and theres new stuff to try. Still the only truly good vampire rpg. I don't know why there isn't more mods though, which how popular the game is among the hardcore pc crowd, but compared to some other games (Elder Scrolls/Fallout, Half-life, ArmA, Mount and Blade, etc.) it seems like a pretty dead community, but I'm probably not seeing many of the mods

Man, I’m still shocked by the amount of work they put into designing and animating that friend you meet from back when you were human. It’s too much work for a throwaway character. I feel like they had bigger plans for her that did not make it into the final version of the game. In regards to VTMB, tho it’s one of my favorite, it kinda has the same effect on me as Batman 1989: the more I play it, the less I like it. Each subsequent play-through is slightly worse than the one before. Granted, I’d probably have to play it 100 more times to totally dislike, but yeah. I absolutely hate the Malkavian mansion and the Hollywood sewers, and every time I start a new run, I try to delay those moments as much as possible haha Anyway, great video! I’d love to hear your take on Fallout: New Vegas sometime in the future
@CultoftheCyberSkull4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching (again! lol). Gotta say its the opposite for me to be totally honest. This is just a game I never get tired of. But I will fully admit that there are areas that drag and that I certainly do get tired of. But there are ways to get around it: the unofficial patch adds a couple of shortcuts in the sewers. As for New Vegas, not sure if there's anything I could add to it that hasn't already been said, but who knows? Maybe some day I'll want to try my hand at it.
