Installing a Vibrant J-Style O2 Sensor Spacer to fix the P0420 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold) check engine light caused by a catless header, as well as my thoughts after driving around with it for a week. If you still get a CEL when using the fitting with the medium hole, just change it out to the fitting with the smallest hole.
Note: I've added a link to a single piece spacer after I started getting an annoying rattle noise from this j-style spacer.

I have an update to this video where I had a problem with the restrictor rattling around. Check for my Weapon-R spacer video instead. Also, someone posted in the comments on that video about using a little mini catalyst in their straight spacer to keep the check engine light at bay.

The EPA has been cracking down on use of O2 spacers which is probably why the vanished from Amazon. I was pointing people to eBay, but they're no longer allowed to list them on there either. You can try going directly to Weapon-R's website and grab the one from there (weapon-r.com/products/adjustable-cel-eliminator).

Sorry for the late reply. KZbin keeps holding random comments for review. You don't want to use any spacers on the primary O2 sensor in the header as this controls the air / fuel ratio. You only put the spacer on the secondary O2 sensor which is for emissions.

Sorry for the late reply. KZbin keeps holding random comments for review. It's the bung that supposed to mounted between 9 and 3 o'clock position when the O2 sensor it screwed in, it's facing the side or downwards to protect it from condensation.

Pretty nice, but you got a dezod green header right?. It is say on their page that don’t turn on cel. My question is when you change the stock headers always had to buy a second o2 spacer?, not the o2 sensor from the header.

Yes, I have the Dezod Green, and it generally doesn't throw a CEL, but sometimes the sensors on some cars can be more sensitive than others. To answer your question, you only need the spacer on the secondary/downstream O2 sensor. You should always plug the primary/upstream O2 sensor directly into the header. That controls the air/fuel ratio, so you don't want to mess with it.

I hear good things about the Red if you don't mind a little rasp compared to the Green. I would definitely stick with Dezod for a header.

So my car is throwing the p0420 so I have 2 02 one on the catted downpipe and the other is on the exhaust question do I put it on the downstream 02 or the upstream ?

Emissions testing? If they only use the ODB2 port for testing, then you'll pass.

No, this will not change the power curve from a LTH. All this does it make the P0420 emissions code turn off. If your car is not supposed to have a sluggish feeling with the header(s) installed, check and make sure you don't have any exhaust leaks. If you haven't already, unplug the battery for about 30 minutes to reset your ECU.

I replaced this spacer with another one since it started rattling, but the CEL stayed off most of the time. Occasionally, it would pop up, but then it would eventually go away again.

No, as long as you still have the original catted manifold, you don't need a spacer.

@@irobiatmillan4119 Megan Racing what? They make a few different exhaust parts. Header? Then yes. You need a spacer. Anything else and you should be fine.

Hey bro I got a veloster non-turbo with 4-1 racing headers which deleted the cat in the front So I got the headers downpipe test pipe whichever it is than after got a high flow 200 cell race cat on the exhaust pipe and throwing P0420 now my question is would I put the defouler on the headers since that’s were the cat use to be or do I install it on the Downpipe/testpipe or the high flow cat.

You put it on the down pipe. You never want to mess around with the O2 sensor on the header because that's what controls your AFR. The O2 sensor on the downpipe is for emissions. Also, check my update video. I had rattle issues with this spacer after a couple of years. I'm using a different one now.

Do you mean the Orange Virus flash tuner tablet? I believe you would still need this if you are getting rid of your primary cat. The tablet only remaps your fuel and ignition settings and maybe a few other things, but it won't bypass the readings from the cat or lack thereof. You can double-check with the vendor of the tablet to make sure though.

Unplug the negative terminal from your battery for about a minute to reset the ECU. That will make the check engine light turn off.

Derrick how are you? I have a scion tc 2013..i have a megan headers & megan catback exhaust. I put the vibrant restrictor the same way you did after i install my headers...when i start the car the check engine didn't come on..but then i took the car for a ride so the headers could brake in..so i give the car a throttle so i can hear how it sounds and then the check engine light comes on..any tips maybe that could help me? @@NigelDream93 bring it to AutoZone. They should be able to read your code for you. If it's a P0420 code, then try using a smaller restrictor in the O2 spacer.

@@rudydaberry122 this kept the CEL off for me. Every so often, it would turn on, but then it would eventually clear itself after a couple of days. This happened maybe twice a year. I changed over to the straight spacer after this one and that worked about the same, just without the rattle I experienced with this one.

Go under the car and hit the down pipe as if you were looking for a loose pipe or what not and you will hear it rattle

John Tiedman the fitting does rattle a little if you shake it directly or knock on the s-pipe like you did, but when you're in the car with the engine idling, it doesn't make any noise. I didn't even hear it when I was doing my exhaust leak check. The rattle will not affect how it works either.

Did you change the exhaust manifold gasket when you did your header and when you got the down pipe what size donut gasket did you use. I reused header gasket and bought oem donut gasket and I'm getting add if there crickets in my exhaust. No other mods besides these 2 things

No problem. For my Dezod Green Header, I re-used upper gasket and bought 2.5" lower donut gasket from Dezod. For the AP S-Pipe, I re-used the existing donut gasket. Can you post a video of the sound you are hearing?

Derrick Aquino yeah I don't have a way to send a video I don't have utube channel or social media. Question though, I'm thinking that my s pipe might not be connected all the way to the header. Is there a small gap where yours meet? [header to spipe] I can see a little bit if my donut gasket

It's a pretty universal application, so I don't see why not. As long as your O2 sensor can screw into it, it should work.

Derrick Aquino looked through some bmw forums and they say that bmw’s o2 sensors are more sensitive and these might not work

@@san01-l7r If that's the case, then I would probably start with the fitting with the smallest hole. Someone else used this on their car and their system was more sensitive than mine, but going to the next fitting down from the one I used seemed to work for them.

It doesn't delete the code, it prevents it by moving the secondary O2 sensor out of the direct exhaust flow and tricking the readings that the ECU sees. Once you install it, you'll need to unplug your negative terminal on your battery to reset the code and then it shouldn't come back afterwards.

@@orlandoflores7109 no, the car does not need to be tuned floor an aftermarket exhaust. You'll get better power if it is tuned, but the engine will run fine if you don't.
