Van Halen 5150 Reaction
5150
Van Halen
The love line is never straight and narrow
Unless your love is tried and true
We take a chance with new beginnings
Still we try win or lose
Take the highs with the blues
Always one more
You're never satisfied
Share one for all with you
It's only one for me
Ah, why draw the line
And meet you half the way
And you don't know
What the means, oh yeah
I feel like a running politician, oh
Just trying to please you all the time
I've given you myself with no conditions
Going wide, running long
Feeling lost but not for long
Always one more
You're never satisfied
Share one for all with you
It's only one for me
So why draw the line
Meet you half the way
When you don't know
What that means, oh yeah
Always one more
You're never satisfied
Share one for all with you
It's only one for me
So why draw the line
And meet you half the way
When you don't know
What that means
I'll meet you half the way
Whoa yeah
I'll meet you half the way
Whoa yeah

It's certainly the best like 7 minutes of footage of VH that exists.

...I don't know what it is ..but I feel so much better after hearing this song 5150. Everytime. There's an element of hope within the lyric which says: "I'll meet you half the way......"

@@jaybrielakoi7747 The Live Without a Net version of the song '5150' has a different bluesy solo.... Kinda cool. Everybody loves Eddie's guitar solo in this concert; I like it....but I've heard him do better performances.

I love this song. It seems very underrated and forgotten sometimes.

Possibly my favorite song ever .. for all bands . Eddie played the main guitar Solo on Beat It. Ditto all comments on Live Without a Net recording of this song - amazing live performance with incredible solo

Because of Eddie being a GOD, his brother Alex gets over looked(which is a crime) because he is one of the very best drummers in rock without a doubt!

Check out Mewise Magic for an even more epic song by these guys with their original lineup. Note: Eddie was the band's primary songwriter, composing most of his tunes on piano rather than guitar. The first instrument he taught his son Wolfgang to play was not guitar, but drums, which Eddie originally wanted to play as a pubescent rock star, but his big brother Al was better. This doesnt mean Eddie couldn't play drums well; he just wasn't as good as his brother. Eddie also wrote all of the bass riffs, teaching them to Michael Anthony so they could go into the studio and record as a unit. Wolfgang produced, sang, and played everything on his debut album because he said he didn't want any drama interfering with the process, then later toured with a band of very competent musicians. This is very telling of how much he observed and absorbed by being around his dad and his band. I have begun to suspect that Eddie wrote EVERYTHING, including the drum parts, as Alex recently stated that without Eddie there is no Van Halen and that he himself had made no contribution to the songwriting process, having left it all up to Ed. If true, then this is a mind blowing revelatory aspect of Eddie that I never would have thought of while he was still living, because such telling comments wouldn't have been dropped. Eddie not only provided the solo for the song Beat It, he also rearranged the song without Michael or Quincy's blessing, to make the solo fit better. They of course loved both contributions - especially when Eddie declined payment or credits. Later, the only thing keeping Van Halen's monster album, 1984 out of the #1 slot was Michael Jackson's Thriller, featuring the wildly popular hit, Beat It, featuring a "secret" guitar solo by Eddie Van Halen. 5150 was a big deal for Van Halen, topping the charts, cementing the band as a household name and validating Eddie's decision to produce and record at his "racquetball court" studio, 5150.

This song is almost progressive, for Van Halen. One of my favorite EVH riffs, and Alex is huge on this one as well. They started filling out their sound more in the Sammy era, they had a pretty stripped down sound before this.

What do you mean they had a stripped down sound before?! I don’t think you’ve listened to their first 6 albums for a while bub. None of that sounds stripped down

Ed was a crazy rhythm player who could also solo. His brother is the drummer, they were locked together at birth and you can hear it.

Great reaction, great song. Van Halen has some great songs and are a very versatile band. They did a cover of a 20's song Big Bad Bill (Is Sweet William Now) Eddie and Alex's dad plays clarinet. Feels So Good is a total pop song from the Hagar era you might enjoy. I'm the One is a fast paced swing rocker

I mean if you really don't know....hard as that is to believe....Eddie plays the solo on MJ's "Beat It." Steve Lukather also........ nevermind. 5150 is an amazing song on "Live Without A Net." Pretty sure you would get what is going on if you saw that live version.

I'm glad your looking more into rock. Thanks for the VH reactions. Hope you're enjoying it as much as I enjoy watching. Also, the time signature is definitely wonky on this song. It almost sounds like it's all over the place and yet it works. Weird.

Thanks for confirming my time signature question. I mean it's not bad or anything like that it's just I lose it a little bit and i NEVER lose it. Which means something is happening.

Not really. While VH was getting ready to record their debut album, Ted Templeman, the producer, came into the studio with a Montrose album and told the band that they needed to get Sammy Hagar to sing. Now, no one knows how seriously Van Halen took this, but Eddie was a big Montrose fan. So, Sammy was easy consideration to replace Roth.
