One of the best EVH solos... deeply weird and yet musical. Very much shows the Holdsworth influence, IMHO, and Edward's attempt to "be as weird as possible" to distance himself from the tapping clones that emerged

Great ranking. I appreciate your thoughtful approach to this endeavor. I’ll never understand why A Different Kind of Truth always ranks so low on just about everybody’s lists. I think it’s filled with awesome bangers; Big River, You and Your Blues, She’s the Woman, Blood and Fire, Trouble With Never, StayFrosty. I love it! Different strokes I suppose.

I like the Van Hagar era more so I’d probably put 5150 at the top of my list. But man this list made me realized how much great music my favorite band has.

Nice job. I agree with most of your assessments, VHII is my fav too. I’m a Dave guy as well for all the reasons that you stated. Sammy is great, but Dave was more fun. Thx for the breakdown.

I saw both versions of the band (we'll just ignore the Cherrone era lol). They were a better show with DLR, but they were a more solid band with Sammy. Both were awesome though.

Van Halen 3 was going to be a horrible album no matter who sang. Cherrone gets too much of the blame. The songs were awful, and this is coming from someone who would say they were my favorite band up to that point.

Fair warning, WaCF, VH1, VH2, 1984, Diver down is better than anything with sammy. I like sammy but some of those songs are terrible. Tons of filler with sammy. Cringe lyrics too.

I think 5150 may be a better album than DD but that's the only Sammy album you can say that about
