She's NO ORDINARY GIRL DRUMMER !!!!😆😁😆😁 You'll know why if you read her resume in description !!!!
You can hear they are japanese by the growly vibrato, if you have heard enough j-rock/j-pop you hear this kind of vibrato (beautiful vibrato in my opinion) from japaneses singers, is like middle growl, in the back of the mouth and very open. Aside of that Yoyoka keeps mesmerizing me, what and amazing drummer she had become, first time I watch her was with the Rosanna cover, but this, come on!!! Flawless, damnit, she nailed every single beat, in tempo, everything. You rock Yoyoka, you are so incredibly, undoubtly amazing

ALL OF YOU CRUSHED THE ORIGINAL RIGHT NOW !!! WOOOO !!!😜😜😜
The guitarist (who is a phenomenal musician) goofed on the first pentatonic flourish and came out of it an 8th note behind - which is super easy to do without being able to fully hear what YOU are doing Vs. that freaky time change and syncopated interplay between the drums and keys (because you're still trying to locate the feel of it several bars in, Ed and Alex were total freaks when they wanted or needed to be). But, Yoyoka pulled it off with an ad-lib tom fill at the end re-meshing the group at the switch from guitar to keyboard solos. Impressive, to say the very least. She is way more than a trained musician. That kind of on-the-fly band leading is what I look for in a great and she definitely has it naturally - and she's humble about it! I will NOT fault anyone for exposing the virtues of a natural born drum killer :P I also like how the guitarist threw in some Ed-ities to remind us all that the guy was simply chock full of quirky super memorable musical stylings. Edward was simply way beyond his instrument(s), he was even more musical than he was a virtuoso, had he chosen harmonica to play he would have blown our minds with it AND made some of the best music ever made at the same time.

For those of us who aren't musicians, can you give the time reference where that happens, please?
@tasteapiana3 жыл бұрын
@@anguskumikoforsyth7808 The solo begins at 2:20 , he's doing fine until the end of 2:23 , then at 2:24 he comes out of a pentatonic grouping of cascading notes about 1/8th note behind, noticeable by 2:27 . He then continues to add the length of another 1/16th note beyond this and by 2:31 as he's searching for Yoyoka's snare beat and she catches it and drives the band forward in time (not in number of beats per measure) by the missing 1/8th note with a ghost note on her snare followed by a roll of two extra toms on the way out - all signatures the other musicians caught and were able to follow her back into the keyboard solo without all feeling out of time. This all happened due to Satsuma playing the echos instead of the live notes. Edward Van Halen almost always used an echo device, an electronic effect that added the sound of an echoed note as if it were bouncing off of a canyon wall, in the section of this guitar solo that ends at 2:26 you can hear Satsuma lose his sense of where those echos should be and he plays over them with live (real time) notes throughout the next bar. Listen closely to the original here and you can tell that Edward was cramming right-hand tapped notes into this space faster than Satsuma did and therefore exists it in time to hang a bent 1/8th note at the end of the line which the echo is increased for so that it extends over the next passage. Edward is already playing as the echoed note rings out. Satsuma knew he was scratching / had to search for the beat to claw his way out of the rest of the passage at this point. Edward plays over the end of this section freely but Satsuma has cornered himself by missing the transition into the tapping section by a triplet (take every 1/4 note and replace them with 3 note divisions and you get a triplet, instead of 1 2 3 4 do 1, 2, 3 | 1, 2, 3 | 1, 2, 3 | 1, 2, 3 for a total of 12 in the space of the original 4). He catches one of the 1/16th notes through the remainder of the last passage but it is Yoyoka who covers for the remaining 2x 1/16ths notes (ie 1/8 note) by pushing forward (adding) an 1/8th for him. It's a very intricate timing and, again, I do not fault him for choosing to not play it with enough echo - because hearing the feedback of the echo makes it even more difficult to play precisely not only for the guitarist but the rest of the band. Hope this helps.

What’s more amazing with all of these was that Yoyoka picked all the musicians and songs (from what I understand) herself. In a way, she should be credited as a producer. To be able to get all these talented professional musicians together just by calling and asking them was quite a feat. Mind you, they have to do rehearsals and all the sound checks before the broadcast. To be able to take their time to support this young lady was quite generous of them, paid or not. As popular as Yoyoka is, she’s still not quite established in the music business (pls. no flying shoe towards me). That’s just a fact. But these pros respect her talent enough (which is something) to accept her invitation and do the work to make this successful and at the same time celebrate Yoyoka’s birthday. And also, from what I read from the other musicians, they were grateful to Yoyoka for bringing them together and happy to have met each other. I’m just grateful for all of it. The generosity of the Soma family is really admirable. You don’t see it everyday and hope they stay grounded as they are. ✌🏼🙏🏽 Btw, I know most fans expected LZ or RATM, (me too) but I thought doing a version of Stevie’s Superstition would have been so cool with this group. I think the keyboard player would’ve been up to that task.

@@tibetbill Assuming you mean NB, she’s being pushed for a different reason. Aside from being a decent multi instrumentalist, her bass playing in particular is unexpectedly good, and getting there as a singer and songwriter, she has fantastic presence. She gets that whole professional wrestling swagger somehow coupled with such sheer joy that she’s fun to watch. But as a drummer she’s still basically a novelty act, an unusually good eleven-year-old. Without Yoyoka we’d all think she was great. (Actually,, for eleven, she is.) But Yoyoka passed novelty a long time ago. Her timekeeping rivals Ringo’s. NB isn’t pulling Purdie Shuffles on Rosanna, she isn’t channeling John Bonham, she isn’t blowing the doors off Burn. Yoyoka isn’t basing anything on showmanship, it’s all in the playing. Put her on vinyl without crediting her and no one has a clue she’s twelve (barely). She’d get work based on the tracks. We’re listening to a seasoned professional, a top 500 in the world drummer. What’s most amazing about Yoyoka is that her age is damned near beside the point. The awe is for her age. The respect is not.

@@tibetbill my thoughts about Nandi is that she needs to practice. She can’t hide behind her age forever so she need to do the work. We can all see what Yoyoka’s hard work have done to her career. And what proper guidance and right priorities to keep her focus on her goal to be the best drummer and her wish to work with other musicians around the world. And she’s doing that, slowly but surely. She would’ve done some tours too. If not for the pandemic, she might also have collaborated with more bands. So whether the ‘industry’ is pushing Nandi or not is not up to her, she’s just a kid. She might have the wants and desires to do stuff but at the end of the day, It comes down to what her parents priorities are and goals for her. They still got to decide what’s right and what’s wrong for their daughter. So far, it seems like their priorities are worlds a way from the Somas. That’s why I give so much kudos to Yoyoka’s parents. They’re trying to balance between supporting and nurturing their kids from what they want to keeping everything grounded. I think they’re doing a terrific job since both Shido and Yoyoka have the admirable humility and confidence as kids and musicians. And that stems from their teachings. Anyway, another thing I can think of as to why they seem to push or promote Nandi because of her accessibility and the communication factor / language. I don’t know if Nandi has a manager or a handler to handle the business side of things but from I understand it’s just her dad. But like you and several others, it’s frustrating to see that the more deserving isn’t getting the same promotion. But I think that’s our job as fans to be frustrated for her. I don’t think It bothers Yoyoka and thinks about it. I think her parents filters those. She just do the work and we love her for it. ✌🏼
