Song is about his preference for a "real" girl. Home grown and down home. Poundcake is an analogy for a woman that is real and not trying to be something she's not. It's not about sex. I was so excited when my son took me to a Van Halen-Hagar concert. My one goal: how did Eddie make the sound in Poundcake? It was a cordless drill against his guitar! Thank you Eddie for coloring my life!
@shawnlusby15384 жыл бұрын
Mr. Big actually did the electric drill thing first on their song "Daddy, Brother, Lover, and Your Little Boy ( The Electric Drill Song)" from their second album "Lean Into It." It's the first song on the album. That album was released in March 1991 while Van Halen's "F.U.C.K." album (For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge) was released in June 1991. "Poundcake" was the first song on that album too. Eddie does a fantastic job employing the electric drill as a 🎸 guitar pick in this song but it does seem like he got the idea from Mr. Big's lead 🎸 guitar player Paul Gilbert. You should do a reaction to that song Jamel. Mr. Big is a very underappreciated band here in the states ( they were huge in Japan!). They have many great rock songs in spite of their two biggest hits here in America being ballads ( To Be With You and Just Take My ❤ Heart). Also, and obviously this didn't get nowhere as much attention, but they lost a band member recently too. Drummer Pat Torpey passed away in 2017. He was right around the same age as Eddie Van Halen and both bands are from Southern California( Van Halen from Pasadena and Mr. Big from L.A.). Also, ironically enough, founding member and bassist of Mr. Big Billy Sheehan also played in David Lee Roth's band before he formed Mr. Big. A lot of connections between these two bands!

Thanks for another fantastic reaction with thoughtful commentary. Your kindness shines through in each of your videos. If you are looking for off the beaten path VH to react to, I suggest studio versions of any of the following: Drop Dead Legs, Little Guitars, Dance the Night Away, So This Is Love, 5150, Best of Both Worlds, Cabo Wabo, Top of the World, or Don't Tell Me What Love Can Do.

My favorite song from this lineup is "Don't Tell Me (What Love Can Do)" which was partially inspired by Kurt Cobain's death.

Thankyou Jamel for showing this version of VH. Eddie loved both Sammy and David Lee. Thank God we have the music to carry on. Alot of people including me are still pretty shocked, eventhough Eddie was sick for a decade. Van Halen was a band from our teenage years so to lose someone so innovative and aspiring , it makes us question our own mortality. RIP EDDIE.🎸🎸❤

There's at least, 50 songs from them that could be reacted to!! Van Hager era and DLR era both top-notch.

I still remember the first time I heard this song on the radio back in 1991. I was so excited by this song and the new VH album that was soon to come out. This song and album is untouchable. Brings back so many great memories!

I started playing guitar because of Eddie over 30 years ago. I never imagined death of someone I've never met could hit me so hard. I've seen several iterations of Van Halen multiple times in concert. Ed's solo was ALWAYS the highlight of the entire concert. You should absolutely check out Best of Both Worlds off the 5150 album. It is a phenomenal song with a great message.
