Van Halen fanatic here loved all of the earlier stuff, I was 16 in highschool when 1984 was released, Top Jimmy didn't get radio play a hidden gem. Drop Dead legs was my favorite off that album, also didn't get airplay. Total HOUSE SHAKER. AHHHHHH to be 16 again..... R.I.P. EDDIE..........

Not just the solo. The guitars, from front to back, are another rock-n-roll masterpiece by Eddie like most of his stuff from the first 6 albums. Some of the greatest rhythm guitar playing of all time, and it all gets lost in his virtuoso solos.

@@nativemiami77 Not a huge fan of the Sammy years, but "Finish What You Started" is my favorite song by them with Sammy.. Nice choice 👍 I miss Ed. I still can't believe he's gone. Doesn't seem possible. I met him as a 17 year old in '82 after a concert. Long story short ...me and my punk teen friends found out where they'd be hanging out after the show, which was the hotel bar they were staying at, so we crashed in there after the concert and met Eddie & the band (there was almost no one else there 'cept for some old folks in the corners drinking & the bartender) and Ed was a total sweetheart to us. Still wearing his red/white striped overalls. Made their security back off, signed autographs on our own band's flyers for us, asked us about our gear, told us to keep practicing, joked around with us...just as nice as could be to us kids. Eddie was only about 27 or so himself at the time. Then the bartender threw us out for being underage lol, but what a memory Eddie gave us all. I still remember it like it was yesterday. Thanks again Eddie!

i used to check out Top Jimmy playing at the Blue Cafe in Long Beach CA around the late 1990's or so. He really was great. that drunk bastard could sing some blues, and the band was always great. they really rocked no lie. a smokin good band. and he looked like hell too. i mean like a cross between some kind of a great big Joe Cocker and living walking death. when i saw him sing he would always be drinking two cold Budweisers at the same time which he would try to juggle with the microphone. but somehow he put on the most entertaining show, and thats says a lot coming from a guitar player who generally thinks the singers in a band usually suck. i had first heard this song when i was a kid living in Louisville KY. i had no idea that Top Jimmy was a real dude back then. then i moved to Long Beach years later and after i saw his show finally realized that this song had been written about him. crazy stuff

@@jakeybball Do you even know who Top Jimmy was? Top Jimmy was a Blues, Rock, and R&B singer in LA, on the scene from the late 70s through the mid 90s. He died in 2001. I used to play guitar for Top Jimmy & The Rhythm Pigs in the early 80s, along with Carlos Guitarlos. We used to play at the Cathay De Grande in Hollywood, and sometimes David Lee Roth would come down and sit in with us. David Lee along with the rest of Van Halen, were big fans of Top Jimmy & The Rhythm Pigs. Hence the song. Top Jimmy got his name because he used to work at Top Taco, which was a stand on the corner of Sunset Blvd. and either Highland or La Brea, I don’t remember which?
