Hello I really appreciate this reaction, since it bri ngs back memories from my friends and I listening to this record back in high school in Sonora, Mexico (Next to Arizona). Even my two daughters love Van Halen. Thanks a whole lot!

"Mean Street" is Van Halen at their best with David Lee on vocals imo. Definitely worth a listen, even if he creeps you out a little.

A Van Halen song that doesn't even have guitar playing by the man who changed guitar playing. Interesting place to start.
@mightyV4443 ай бұрын
Still it's the only Van Hagar song I actually liked! 😄
@jonlate45813 ай бұрын
Are you stupid? There's guitar playing throughout the song as well as a breakdown solo section. Sure it may be the keyboards that are the forefront, I always laughed at the 'guitarists' that could never hear what was going on underneath.

Eddie played guitar all over this song. Don't be fooled by this video. This is live footage, but it isn't live music. It's the actual album track. There's guitar from beginning to end, all Eddie. During the actual live shows on the first Van Hagar tour, Eddie would play keys and Sammy would play guitar, but that was only on that first tour. Sammy did not play the guitar for this song on the record, and that's the version you are hearing. Every subsequent tour Eddie used pre-recorded keys and played all of the guitar parts.
@mightyV4443 ай бұрын
@@plpinkham - Yes, that's also how I remember it myself. Eddie did appreciate having Sammy's additional guitar parts during live shows, though 🙂

You should go back to Van Halens 1st album ' Ain't talking bout love or Jamies crying & listen to those outer space sonic Guitar tones from Edward Van Halen that dropped jaws all over the world as we were introduced to a Mozart of a generation R.I.P. King Edward 🎸🎸👑👑 Enjoyed ur reaction 😁😁 oh & Edward was so amazing that even Michael Jackson had him play the guitar solo on Michaels hit song ' Beat it ' 👍👍

Love '80s! Your mentioning of Friday Night Videos brought back memories! More Van Halen: Jump, Panama, And The Cradle Will Rock, You Really Got Me, Hot For Teacher, Pretty Woman, Ain't Talkin' Bout Love, Right Now (Van Hagar)

The Flying V. Much loved by the Scorpions at the time too. Now there's another band! I knew you were going to say Jump when you mentioned the video! lol. You should definitely do a reaction to that now if only to expunge it from your psyche 😂 Also you can only admire his in mid air splits. 😂This was on the album 5150 if I remember correctly, which was the first album I got of their's or it might of been on OU812 come to think of it. Believe it or not my mum loved this song. 😁

Nah. 'Jump' is on the '1984' album, the last one with DLR before Sammy Hagar replaced him 🙂

I miss the 80's too. The decade of excess! ;) But I have a bone to pick with you. How can someone who has never heard Van Halen pick the only VH where Eddie doesn't play his guitar? that' hearing Homefree Butts remix as their first song. you need to do a REAL VH song from Diver Down or 1984. Wolfgang is still playing but, Alex has quit music. He is auctioning off all his drum equipment. He only played because of his brother, now playing without him is too painful. Oh, and by the way Sammy's guitar is called a Flying V. keep making Great Reactions.

The Sammy Hagar era in Van Halen was an evolution and progression for the band, for sure. Especially for eddie, he seemed the happiest around that time because artistic expression got cut loose and set on fire. I understand your sentiment towards David Lee Roth, he's definitely an eccentric individual and the '80s videos were just too much. To his credit though, he was involved in some of the best lyrics and direction the band took that brought them to fame in the first place. I guess what I'm saying is if you can just wipe that memory from your mind and be assured that those videos gave all of us nightmares you'll find some really good music from that time as well. Anyways, enough on Dave. The camaraderie and friendship, energy and execution of Sammy, Michael and Eddie is unmatched, especially in the early stages of that time. Eddie is called the goat for a reason, and as a couple of others have mentioned you really need to watch the performance, “Eddie Van Halen Eruption Live Without a Net” as an appetizer, then branch off into “Finish What You Started” , “Love Comes Walking In”, and “Right Now”. Once you're primed there, the fortune cookies- “In A Simple Rhyme”, “Little Guitars”, and “Unchained”. Lastly, “Women in Love”. I served it up that way for a reason. some of it is meant to be carry-out for later.

Seeing you repeatedly said you were missing the 80's, you must be closer to my own age (54) than you look and than I'd thought!? 😳😅 And VH's drummer Alex, Eddie's brother, is currently auctioning off tons of his drum gear; The two had been very close, and it looks like with Eddie's passing, Alex also had lost his interest in making music 😌
