Blocking the sun's powerful rays "before" it hits the glass is the key, anything type of sun blocking before the sun rays get to the windows and even the metal body of the vehicle makes it cooler. Shade cloth that is anchored around the vehicle where the sun is hitting is a huge heat reduction, solar panels on the roof are also a huge heat reduction...Great subject to bring up.....a 360 degree shade cloth courtyard around the vehicle like Bob showed in a previous video is the way to do it.
@mattinthehat226 жыл бұрын
Wine Sipper Amazon sells those shade cloths, too. We got a big square and two triangles for our little above-ground pool. They’re uv shielded so they don’t break down in the sun.

Jeffrey Whitaker Aww thanks..but I guess I failed to add. I then had10yrs of hot&humid FL almost yr round. Then moved to the Central Calif Coast, and the weather is year round mostly much better and there's all kinds of no cost, but then again, winemaking geared tours&stuff; and overall, the people generally much nicer. So the third time move was a charm!

They must be waterproof . For extra protection and cushion (due to a person spinning out and casting a rock that broke my windshield) I made mine for the outside and inside . I put reflective between the layers and I use reflective on the outside of the cover when I am going to be in a place for awhile .I stayed for a year in one place due to my mom's cancer .And doing this kept moisture from building up inside . Normally with just the cover mold would develop.I finally made my own for the inside windshield and both side windows with reflective between the layers .I use these for the times I am temporary parking and boondocking . Hobby lobby sells a rubber based material that is fantastic . Magnets are used in mine as well . The only color is beige on one side and white in the other .Which is what you usually buy already done . It serves as a safety issue .If one has to leave in a hurry it is more easily removed . And my takeoff is quicker .

I purchased the one with the window screens for my 2011 Chevy van. It fit fine and I run an ac between the seats with both front windows down, with an insulated curtain separating the back. I used it in the Missouri Ozarks and the back stayed nice and cool, while the front got warm but was it was well vented. I think I'm going to rig a small DC fan for one of the front window to increase air flow.

Use the cheap drop cloths from Harbor Freight, cut to size and sew. You can also use swimming pool nuddles to creat an air space to keep the body cooler, or if you are handy you can put a mister on them to keep them wet. You can also build a swamp cooler out of a cooler or a medical circulating cooler, with a hose coming through the floor from the shaded air under the van. I have a 20’ shuttle bus I really like, fits in any parking space, I can walk in it, is stealthy and are a really good price.

First search I did on Amazon turned up the Adco for the ProMaster. It's model 2524 but it's not $34, rather more expensive at $57.12 for Class C RAM ProMaster RV Motorhome. Considering it's just the windshield cover, shouldn't make any difference being an RV Motorhome or a ProMaster van. If I order it, I'll provide feedback for it as I have a reversible Weathertech ProMaster inside windshield cover for keeping heat out or in. Recently, I got the full window covers for inside R16 protection using magnets on all doors, windshield, sliding and rear doors all from Vanupgrades.com. Their main business is custom screen doors for Vans from ProMaster, Transits and Sprinters. While I didn't order those, the cut to fit window covers at R-16 made from Prodex and Reflectix making 1/4" covers more effective than Reflectix alone. All but can doors were a perfect fit. The door window covers we're way over size!

Bob, how did your ceramic tinting on the windshield workout for cooling? I'm just curious if that helps to keep the heat down. I'm sure this external cover works better. Just looking at getting my car windows tinted and wondering if the windshield is worth tinting with a clear or lite tint.
@hb5914 Жыл бұрын
Ceramic tint is superior to standard tint in reflecting UV light and sun glare. I would find out what your state’s/counties rules are regarding maximum tint. Then tint up to or under your state’s/counties and states you will be camping/vacationing in to find out what the legal tint limits are before having it applied. Because Law Enforcement Agencies are able to measure tint at roadside stops and you may be written a ticket or fined some other way if it is too dark.

@martywilsonlife6 жыл бұрын
Yes, in this case, he did indeed ignore her a bit. He's usual really good about these things. I met him and also watched him speak in large crowds and he was better than most men (in regards to how they tend to avoid bringing women into the conversation). Although I am very fond of Bob and all he has done for many folks (women and men alike), I find this observation to be excellent. ' Just a little more effort and he'll be perfect.
@sesolar58546 жыл бұрын
Gerard and Marty, For someone like Bob who likes living and being alone on the road I don't believe for a second that Bob intentionally leaves anyone out of the conversation. Think about it - this self proclaimed loaner has come out to provide online video content to a worldwide audience and is helping others without bias in my eyes. He is trying to convey message in a very short time and cover the information thoroughly. If anything he may get a bit distracted trying to remember and cover every detail. He's become a KZbin sensation in the past couple years, like it or not, and I think he will never be the polished journalist people may think he should be but he gets the message out and is handling his newfound stardom gracefully and as best he can. I applaud Bob for all he does and I hope to meet up with him someday on the road and say thanks. You have your opinions as we all do and obviously you are fans or you wouldn't be here offering advice. I acknowledge all opinions and hope you see reason to let Bob adjust to his new full time job of documenting Freedom on the road. May we all have a great life! Cheers from NC
@martywilsonlife6 жыл бұрын
Of course, it wasn't intentional and good point about the 'being alone' lifestyle. I'm hoping that I don't make things worse, because Bob is the greatest, but for B.R. to say that it's ok because the 'guy introduced him to the covers and was more important' is very short-sighted. If the gal was of no use to the conversation, Bob should not have included her. Seriously, again Bob really is a wonderful, wonderful person... 'just taking a moment to turn his attention towards her (indeed in a very conscious manner), he would have been practicing 'Interviewing 101.' Btw, I tend to notice these types of things a lot. I don't think I am negative per se, but I literally will keep a keen eye on interactions by business associates, customer service personnel, etc. I have found that the tendency is for most men to feel uncomfortable fascilitating an open and equal exchange with the women in the group. I think Gerard made a good point without malice. It's just a slight tweaking of the interviewing process, while keeping in mind the foibles of many other men currently in this society. Bob has raised the barre in SO many wonderful ways... the world is a far richer place due to his many efforts to be of service.
