Like yourself I try to get to my camp before darkness. I've been a nomad since 1988 and I have yet to stay at a Walmart. I've been living this way longer than most van-lifers have been alive. I'm 62 years old now and I'm far from being done. Anyway you and your friends have a great wonderful weekend. Peace out

Hello Mister Richard🙏 Where do you usually stay since it's never been Walmart? I've been vanlifing for 21 years and love the freedom and adventure, yet I've stayed at Walmart over the night, many times and am ALWAYS very respectful and very thankful plus patronizing. I think it's exceptional of Walmart to allow people to get some rest on their property. I used to stay in nature all the time, and sense I might be circling around nature style again. Things often go in the circles of life...and respecting our blessings is very very important... and also being thankful. Happy trails to all🎶🙏🌻

@@forestsky6026 luckily I live in Oregon. Or I should say the great northwest. So I have plenty of places to stay for free. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying anything wrong about staying at Walmart overnight. It's just not for me. And I may not have much but I give thanks every day for what I do have. Anyway happy trails to you and happy holidays.

Yosemite in winter is magical. Well, Yosemite anytime is magical, but winter has it's own special feeling. So amazing that you got to meet Alex. His brain is definitely wired a bit differently than the rest of us. But he's an inspiration. He isn't foolhardy, he plans everything out so carefully; but soloing certainly takes a different type of personality.

Maddie, (with or without makeup) you, Eliza and Yosemite are natural beauties! Snow time in Yosemite, Eliza/winter scarf eating snow, mighty companions, and your soothing voice speaks volumes...all made for a wonderful video!❄👍

Other vanlifers I've followed have had positive things to say about Walmart, that unlike many other businesses, many welcome nomads to spend the night in their parking lots.

Wow, that was definitely a stark contrast between your morning wake-ups at Walmart and Yosemite! The different vibe in nature was so palpable to me and I wasn't even there. What an important reminder to all of us to surround ourselves in the beauty of nature whenever we can. Thank you, Maddie. I'm going for a long walk in the woods near me tomorrow morning!

Quite the contrast (and want to know more about the Wal-Mart next to BLM land - that has to be a story!) - but you never know where life will take you. So glad you talked about the precautions you take (the extra locks on the van, parking them slider to slider, etc.). Then, the shots in Yosemite Valley - AWESOME! Plus, what a difference year to year. Some great shots of El Capitan, and the mighty Merced River running through the valley. Loved some of the shots of Eliza in her winter finery. Thanks for sharing, and safe travels - and, if you make it back to your mom's area, let some of us know - would love to have a day hike with a group!

Hi, something struck me when you said you always kept a weapon next to you when you slept. What do van dwellers do if they travel with a firearm? As someone outside the US I’m curious what the rules are. As I understand it the rules change state to state so is it even possible to legally travel between states with a firearm given that any firearm registration is probably done in your home state.
@H2Dwoat2 жыл бұрын
@BUGhome hi, I understand that. As I said it was just something that came to mind when she said weapon.
@stacymcmahon4532 жыл бұрын
If the gun stays in your vehicle then you won't have a problem, unless you give the police some other reason to search it. The handguns commonly used for self defense have very few restrictions, especially in the western states where most vanlifers seem to stay. Some cities ban them locally, but again that's only an issue if you want to carry your gun outside the van. Also to note, statistically almost all of the US is as safe as western Europe. "Stealth campers" might be in a little extra danger when they are staying in a parking lot in town, because that's also the kind of place bad people seek out late at night.

Eliza is so adorable, so cute. I am not sure eating snow is good for her. Think Eliza doesn't like water, because in her past she had traumatic experience with water, before you adopted her. In the municipal kennel they wash the the cages , without taking out the dogs first. Dog's psychology. Please don't put music in the background, when you are speaking. For people, which English is not their first language, it is hard to distinguish your words. Besides, the music colours distort my perceptions. Please.
