Hi Michelle, I am actually very young compared to many other travelers, they just don't post their lives on KZbin. I plan to travel like this as long as my body will allow me, as it is my favorite way to traverse this continent. Cheers!

I used to have a 2006 Honda Pilot before I sold it earlier this year due to not needing it anymore. Your Element reminded me how indestructible the suv was even for nearly 20 years old! I racked up over 200k on the original transmission and engine with only very few maintenance related issues.

2:07 minutes into this video and I'm crying....happy tears....for you....and for myself too, as I too (at 55 years of age) bought a miniskoolie (which I realize is about three times the size of your tiny-home-on-wheels) and it was during the drive through New Mexico (I started in Ontario, Canada and was headed to Yuma, Arizona), I too "found myself" and realized how capable I was, how I had OTHER PEOPLE'S fears hold me back, how I needed to STOP being a people-pleaser and allow myself to experience what I (capital letter and bolded I) wanted to experience in MY life. (I am 57 now and tell everyone that for ME, #vanlife was the best decision ever). Having LESS is actually LIVING MORE. Ok, going to watch the rest of the video now :-)

I love the fact that you picked a Honda Element. I think a lot of people in your situation build out too much of a vehicle and oftentimes those van conversions break down. Honda's, as you know, are pretty indestructible as long as you do oil changes, things like that. Good for you nice lady.
@NinthElementКүн бұрын
Thanks for noticing the reliability and versatility of the Honda Element. When I hit the road in it I did not expect it to be 2.5 years, that being said I saved thousands of dollars on not renting hotels or buying and building out a bigger fancier van. I still pick the Honda Element for my desired way of travel and living off road. Cheers!

2:38 - Oh, oh, OH!!! I have been EXACTLY there! As soon as I saw you climbing up on that ledge, I knew that looked familiar. But, that pool is unmistakable. It's not the biggest thing in the world. But, when it's hot in that campground (and it does get HOT), that little pool is an awesome way to just sit and cool off. Plus, almost no one goes all the way out there. So, you mostly have it to yourself. However, watch out for that one large water bug. It left me alone, but I hear those things can give a nasty bite. Apparently, only in self defense. Then, that little valley, watered by that tiny spring, is just amazing. Especially in the middle of the New Mexico desert.

Hi Mindy, you are simply inspirational. If I was in the same position in life , I would do the same at 61. It is a wonderful gesture to sell off and donate the percentage of your wealth. We don't have that type of Honda down here, but I do own a lifted Subaru forester, which we use to go camping, beach driving, and trail hopping. You never feel more free and in touch with nature than when you are out in it and away from the noise of normal life. If you ever make it to Australia, look me up. You are welcome to stay with us for a while to recharge your batteries. Good luck and best wishes, from Brisbane Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 👍

I just bought a new Rav4 hybrid earlier in the year because I wanted to use the climate control while sleeping, and that's a BIG improvement over my 2003 Element. It's also handles way better and it's a smoother, much more comfortable ride. BUT I still have my old Element and I'll never part with it. In the Rav4 you can only fold down the seats (since the hybrid battery is under the rear seat), so there's much less headroom. Also, I seriously doubt the Rav4 will still be on the road 23 years from now, given how complex these new cars have gotten, and how expensive they'll be to repair once they start needing repairs. I've done all the work on my Element myself, valve adjustments, sensors, calipers, struts, you name it :)

The Rav4 is a good upgrade, but I'm still team Element for the long haul. Cheers!

A friend of mine that I traveled with earlier this year has a Winnebago Solis pocket that he can stand up in and cook inside. It was nice in windy weather and freezing cold to gather together in his van to visit and cook. But, my vehicle could make it farther into the back country to epic spots, which is why I chose this platform in 2012. I love my Elements, Cheers!

Its not really ideal and safe to build your kitchen at the back trunk. That you need to go out to do the cooking or whatever because you don't know what or who is lurking behind you specially when you are alone at the forest.. wild animals are drown to the smell of what you are cooking.. perhaps bears, wolfs or cougars will pounce on you.. not a good setup for a camper van at all.
