Hello Bob I am a 77 yr. old retired Police officer and retired truck driver who just lost his best friend of almost 49 years. Now I need to go some where to cry and heal and I am in the process of celling almost everything I own and taking your advice to buy a cargo trailer and build it out. Then I am going to join your big family and find my self. I hope to make it to the R T. R next year and finish my build the help of your great community. I hope to meet you next year and we can talk more, thank you for the inspiration to do something I should have done while she was still alive for this was her wish also. Thank you again my friend, I truly hope you will be when we meet. Pat

Hey Roy. I'm inspired by your strength and courage. I'm also on a spiritual journey to find myself due to losing the people important to me and other issues. I'm determined to make it to RTR next year. We can dedicate the adventure to all the people we've loved and are no longer with us. In the meantime, I'm really looking forward to alone time in nature, so I can cry and grieve without people telling me to buck up. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need someone to chat with or just want some encouragement to keep going. We can do this. Maybe I will see you at the virtual caravan tonight.

Ya, u can dream n live like Gentle Bob for sure, if u hv a retirement pay cheque every mo. to pay ur bill. If u r young n no money, u go to work for many yrs n save up some dough n buy a dream van n go camping every weekend or every yr somewhere warm.

Of course young people can do it. You need the capital to buy the van that's true. But then the maintenance of the van and your lifestyle are cheap. You can work a job where you set your own hours. Work as little as you want. Just enough to get by on and a bit extra for savings

Bob, this was an excellent presentation and confirms my reasons for wanting to live the remainder of my life in a van. I'm 74 and presently providing caregiving to someone I love. I will be joining the ranks of van dwellers afterwards. I've been a nomadic spirit since I was born into a military family living around the world, serving 23 years myself with 16 of them overseas, and multiple jobs here on the mainland and in Hawaii...traveling around the Pacific while working and living in Maui. I loved my life, my spouses, my children and worked to keep all of us happy. Now it's time for "me time" and that entails traveling throughout the lower 48, Canada and Alaska. I recently purchased a '19 GMC Savana 2500 cargo van and it was bone empty except for wood slats on the cargo space walls and the metal divider, separating the cargo space from the cab. I've been having so much fun converting it to a camper and eventually my home on wheels. Your channel has helped me tremendously with ideas and plans for the future as far as improvements to make my quality of life better. I hope to meet you someday on the road as you've become an idol in the van dwelling community.

Also, people say it’s dangerous in the wilderness. Back as a teen, I was chased by a black bear in Minnesota in the twilight hours. Black bears are predatory. Period. I had a stout hiking stick. This was a stout stick. A short chase found my self on the opposite side of a wide pine. Bear went left, smacked with the stick. Bear went right, smacked with the stick. Three more times I swung that stick like I was chopping down a tree. Bear ran away looking for something easier. I slid down the tree to my haunches listening to the bear make his way in the distance. I looked down, realized I peed myself. I’m still alive. I had many adventures after that. I tell this story to say the following; I would rather face what the wilderness has to throw my way, than to face what is in the streets today. Peace to all and well being. Thank you for your consideration.

I'm retired, with a comfortable income, a nice house with solar panels, a nice net worth and no debt. The reason we are in this position, is because we spent a good portion of our 48 (almost 49) years together, living beneath our means. My wife has chosen to keep working. I told her in retirement, I wanted us to get a small RV or small trailer that I could pull behind my small pickup, so we could travel to visit family and friends we have scattered around the US and Canada. My wife said, "Have fun, see you when you get back." Then covid hit, which put things off. I'm now looking for something that will work for me alone. Maybe, I'll see you on the road. God bless.

I completely agree with your reasons on why people become a nomad; especially spiritual healing and grief. I always wanted to sell my condo, quit my job, buy an suv and live out if it, travel around the US and see what is really out there! Well, I am finally going to do it but it is going to take a few months to get everything ready. The reason I am doing it now is because my father passed away two weeks ago and my significant other passed away, unexpectedly, two days after my father. I have had two significant losses in one week and I need a mental break. This is something I’ve always wanted to do and life is too short not to do what you want to do, if possible. I have decided to ,basically ,start a new life. I think by traveling and getting out of the general area where all of my memories are from these two people will help with the grief and will help me grow spiritually and emotionally. thank you for your video,

@@notanomad9320 Everyone’s life journey is different. The nomad life is not for everyone. What Bob was talking about was the rat race, how so many people in this society get caught up in it and how crushing it can be to people’s physical, mental and spiritual health. I believe it’s one of the reasons why so many people suffer from depression, they don’t see any way out of the vicious cycle and it drags them down. It’s a byproduct of living in an artificial world that is so unnatural. That’s why the nomad life to many offers them a way out. Bob wasn’t putting down work in general, just pointing out that to many folks, working in a job that doesn’t fulfill you (like yours did), just to pay the mortgage/rent and bills that keep going higher and higher, and falling into the trap of buying stuff on credit that puts you into debt is what needs to stop. The ‘work-eat-sleep’-get up and do it again’ syndrome. For many, the way to stop that awful cycle is to become a nomad. For some, they don’t need to be a 100% nomad, they can choose part-time nomad. But it’s knowing that if you want to, you can be free to choose the lifestyle, if you think it’s for you and be happy about it. And the point made about having enough people working to support government programs and property taxes, there will always be a large segment of the population who own homes and live in neighborhoods, mostly families, as long as they can afford to live in them and pay those property taxes. Not everyone is going to jump in a van and wave goodbye to go live out on the road. To each his own.

I expect nothing less than a life of miracles happening all around me. Miracles don't mean no-bad-times. They mean a miraculous way to get through the bad times. I had to write this all down... Good explanation. Other options are buying a cheap piece of land , build a small cabin and/or RV, start homesteading. Also a very good option, which I did, is to buy an abandoned house with no utilities connected, start your own solar system….(for those who can afford it, of course)…

So on point... freedom camping - as it's called in New Zealand 🇳🇿 - once you've slept within spitting distance of the ocean waves at night, sipping wine over a dusky ocean sunset while dinners cooking on the butane stove ~ this is when I get my sax out 🎷🎶🎷and play haunting sultry music .. I don't normally comment on KZbin. I'll try to keep this brief, I'm 36, and I found your website, videos, and book about a week ago. I was a truck driver until 1 year ago, and I could no longer obtain a dot physical card. Now I'm more miserable than ever in my life. Looking back I was happiest when I was living "small" on the truck for 6 months in my early 20s. Now I have a goal I'm excited about. Stay safe, and I'll see yah at RTR 2024.

Bob, I appreciate your understanding of who or what owns who. This is a truth, hidden within the nonsensical expectations of our superficial societies. The answers we search for are most usually just behind the thin veneers of what society determines as success, which are in truth...lies. Preach on brother, preach on.

Nailed it Bob!👍😁 Same reasons...me being on SSDI, housing assistance...limiting finances AND being on housing any extra income is counted against me and my rent goes up. The other BIG reason is connection...my neighbors in the apartment are younger than me and are busy with their own lives...so conversations are "HI how's it going...bye" no real connection and friendships.

Your words, energy, message all resonate with me to the core of my being. Everything you said just speaks truth and meaning to my soul. I grew up in the concrete jungle of Orange County, California BUT my parents/extended family we were an active family always going places. The ocean, the desert, the sand dunes, the mountains, the Colorado River, summer vacations in the beautiful states of Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Colorado. Mostly, Jackson/Yellowstone areas. We camped, we fished, went skiing, boating, floating, hiking, exploring and being IN and WITH nature!!!! They are the BEST times and the BEST memories of my life. I am grateful beyond imagine for the experiences my family gave to me. As an adult, I’ve done very little traveling and been stuck in this eat, sleep, work, buy crap cycle of life. So unfulfilling. Always struggling to make ends meet and stay afloat. Anyway, long story short.... oh how I wish I could meet you someday. I agree with everything you said 💯. I yearn for more than what this lifestyle brings and I want to be a NOMAND. My husband and I both want that life. We want freedom, connection to nature and community. You are AMAZING!!!! Thank you.

I'm starting nomad life n my Honda Civic n July.. I'm spend most of my time n my car, eat, sleep, ect. I chose not to renew my lease.. I could have, but I'm tired of the thin walls, cheap wood flooring, I live downstairs and can here every footstep the ppl upstairs make, I can barely sleep, so I sleep n my Honda.. I've lived n my apartment ten years, was paying 825 dollars then.. now it's 1500 dollars, my oven doesn't even work, tired of neighbors, I don't care 2 know.. I just want 2b in control of my life and keep All my money.😊

He makes a lot of compelling reasons to become a nomad but personally I need the safety and security of living in a neighborhood, a dwelling equipped with a bathroom and TUB, a working kitchen and a nearby mall w/good shopping. I need creature comforts! This nomad lifestyle would only work for me on short trips, which I'd be okay with. But to each their own!

I agree 100%, with one side thought. It's the stress and hard work of Car , Van, RV company employees, that make the Nomad life possible. Someone, somewhere must live the 9 to 5 life, producing useful products and ideas, or we all will have nothing to enjoy. But who can put a price on freedom? Nobody.

Great video! I needed to see what all the todo was about. I don't think your message is unbalanced. The Nomad life is not for everyone but it's for me. I raised my five kids. They're grown and all over the country. I was divorced and struggling and couldn't find a "regular job". I didn't want to stay in Georgia, so I sold the house I got in my divorce, paid off my debt and paid cash for my RV. It took me 9 months to downsize! (I made $3700.00) I had alot of stuff!!!! I left some things in Georgia for my kids and ex. Now everything I own is in my RV! I went West and stayed by a family member for abit but now I'm on the road and met a bunch of cool people on KZbin and I've never been happier in my entire life!!!! Thanks for all you do Bob! RED ❤️

There are so many things Bob is talking about here that just hits home for me. Freedom I think is the biggest thing for me. I'm 60 years old and every morning I have to get up at 2am to be to work at 4am. I'm tired! I want to go experience things but so many things have kept me here...plodding on. I enjoy being by myself but I also like to be with other people. I enjoy reconnecting with old friends that I haven't seen in years and find out what they've been up to. We text or communicate through the computer but actually seeing each other in person is a whole other animal. I'll be retiring in a few years and am looking forward to starting a whole new life. My life. It may just be part time to begin with but that time will be for me. Me and my furbaby. I enjoy watching all the videos posted by so many individuals sharing their life and experiences out there, good and bad. It turns the thought of "I'd like to do that" into "I can do that"!
