Mine died 25 years ago and there's not a day I don't think of him but now those thoughts are mostly the appreciative happy/sad wouldn't he have LOVED this! and those are really a thank you for the kids he raised turning out ok. The night I met the woman who would become my wife, I took her to a bar in my hometown in NJ. It happened to be karaoke night. The first dance we ever shared was to this song being sung (not very well) by another patron. We had 25 wonderful years together, before cancer took her from me. Every year, until she was too weak to do it, we would dance to this song on the anniversary of the night we met. This song means so much to me.

I too experienced a deep loss yet gain of the experience of having spent time with a man who cared deeply for me and I for him. When he was in rehab he'd play van Morrison and enjoy the warmth of the sun. I got to see Morrison 20 years ago with my mom in Scotland, while I was going to school there. What a gift, even if solemn, and sometimes painful, to have such music and be able to continue feeling and knowing their presence.

Many years ago I pulled over on the side of the road, with this song blaring from cassette. I was on my way to meet this young man for the very first time. I got out of my car, and standing in a gravel parking lot with only the dimness of a street light, I listened and sang the words. He later became my husband and the love of my life. I hear this song every now and then and still to this day tear up the same way I did that first night.

I had a really hard day when my son was a newborn and I was home on maternity leave. No sleep, attached to a breast pump, he was colicky and crying and I was completely overwhelmed. I met my husband at the door, told him I'd be back by sunset, and took off for a drive. I listened to this song on repeat, nonstop, for almost 4 hours, while I drove deep into the Kentucky hills with the windows down, taking in the spring sunshine and the smell of new life. It was exactly what I needed and it healed me. I am forever in love with this song and the way it makes me feel.

I just took my mother's ashes to the veterans cemetery where my dad's are to be put with him. Sixteen years ago, I used this song for a memorial for pictures of my dad because he was a sailor. After the memorial today, I jumped into my car only to hear this song playing on the radio. Their together now, on earth and in heaven.💕
