You forgot to show that you need to put lock tight on the pinion gear to keep it from backing out! Also the first time you open these you might even ruin your wrench these reels are extremly tight from the factory! Other wise good video.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Great explanations and walk through. A couple things would have helped even more....maybe some up close still shoots of which way bearings go kind of hard to see in video. Also less arms and closer to reel in video. I’m slow and need visuals lol thanks so much for the video great job!

Very helpful vid! i have a couple of VR50s that seem similar, but different. But they all seem to have a cover plate on the handle knob that prevents access to the bearings in the knob assembly. How do you get that cover off?

How do you change ount the original handle for the power knob handle? I have changed out the handle on regular VS reels, but the handle knob on the VR is different. There is a plate inside the knob that is different. How do I make the switch?

Question how much grease do you put on the reel and can you change the seal yourself and where do you buy the seal from I got VR 175 and I just found out I got water inside I want to change my seals can you help me

I stripped the threads on my FS wrench trying to loosen the gearbox nut on my VR50B. Any advice for what to try next? Have a new wrench but afraid of doing the same thing. Looks like I have to turn it [counter!] clockwise -- which is counterintuitive. What if the FS proprietary wrench just can't break it open? It's a black reel so anything else will score/mar the finish, I fear.

Scary stuff man for 3 digit reel 😂😂 but like you said give a try 😂😂😂 two questions of your comments... you mentioned corrosion and on one of the parts and no sand inside. Are this high dollar value thing no supposed to be sealed?😲😲 I about to pull the trigger for one of them but if I will face corrosion and sand I better stay with my penn reels 😏😏😏👀👀

I had a bad vr 175 its a gamble with these things buy a VS instead

It is. But , they are suppose to be inspected and tested. How ever, if something fails they do back it 100 %

Van Staal is beautiful. And sealed. But wtf. It leaks. So the seals are good. But not good enough. So I bought a saltstest MQ. Van Staal fix this BS. The Diawa is smoother.
