You can avoid doing all of this by just buying the real deal which is VSB Van Staal. The 300 dollars that you save by buying VR version really makes you deal with more problems. I've fished my VSB under water and in the sand, etc for over 2 seasons and have never had to service it yet. I highly recommend VSB or the Okuma Makaira. Those are the 2 best spinning reels in the world.
