Overrated over priced and now made in china. Poor line lay. Poor anti reverse, jerky drag. My twin power 8000 blows it away in every feature for a little less money. Made in Japan, not china, 55 lbs drag. Lightweight, smooth as glass, rock solid anti reverse and flawless line wrap. So you can't reel it underwater. Big deal .0001 percent of fishermen go skishin at montauk. Who cares

did you find the retrieve a little grindy/rough? I tried this one in the store which was behind glass and it was rough. I have the Penn Torque II and its way smoother. Maybe they got a lemon on display? thanks!

To be honest man it is a little rough! I’m glad you asked me that because I was thinking it was only my reel and I needed to lube it up lol

@@PoweryFishing glad I wasn't losing my mind ha. I dug a little deeper and found one answer that was stating that because the gear teeth are so large, thats what makes it more rough compared to other similar models.

I’ve heard the anti reverse one this reel is pretty bad is that true, I want to use this reel for large snook/tarpon but it’s this penn torque

Would this size VR be a decent replacment for a 3000 series reel on a medium action rod or is it too large? Im looking at one used on ebay

way too large. i would recommend a vr50 and that reel is like a 4000. the vr150 is more like a 6000-8000

The VR150 is around the same size as a 5000 series reel. I believe the VR 125 might be your best shot!👍

@@PoweryFishing I like the bailess for surf fishing. Less moving parts is always better when you’re fishing on a beach near the sand. I wish van stall made a bait runner. I do a lot of striper and tuna fishing up here in Maine.

Norman Millen it depends on the length of the rod! I think vr150 for 9ft, vr175 10-11ft, and vr200 12ft

@ 0:25 The reel weighs 1.0125 POUNDS, NOT one pound and 125 ounces as you mentioned. If you convert to OZ, it weighs 16.2
