In this video, our daughter, Ari, shows us her super vibey #vanlife RAM Promaster 2500. She, and her fiance' Benny, built out this beautiful van in just a few months and promptly hit the road for almost three years to see America and Mexico.

Hello, I’m Joe and three years ago I took a motorcycle ride that changed my life, well… our lives. Upon my return, Sherri quickly picked up on the travel bug that had bitten me and starting digging into KZbin to find a place for us to live lighter, go farther and see more.
It wasn’t long before she found a KZbin video walkthrough of the Safari Condo Alto R1713. We were in. And without ever seeing one in person, we sent in our downpayment 💵.
While awaiting our little glass palace delivery, we worked to put our entire small manufacturing business online. And in June of 2018, we did it!
And now after two years and over 300 nights in our little camper, we want to share what we have learned about living lighter and give back to this amazing KZbin community that has provided so much information and inspiration.

That’s one of the best van designs I’ve seen, especially the dresser. Small details like the seat back angle adjustments are phenomenal! Kudos! I’m 6’2”, so the van bed is a dealbreaker for me, although the mattress looks more comfortable. Cost was not one of your topics, and even though the Alto is pricey, I have to believe that it would win hands down in this area. I don’t know how tall the van is, but I suspect residential garage parking isn’t an option. Given the lightweight nature of the Alto, any tow vehicle is also functional as an every day vehicle. Don’t know that I’d say the same thing if you had a larger trailer and needed 3/4 ton truck or larger. As others have mentioned, the convenience of a means to run errands outweighs the setup convenience of the van. So trailer it is! But you’re both winners! You should both get shirts stating that each lifestyle is great. 🙂

Nice video you put together. I think trailer - less noise, less weight on axle, fire safety, flexibility and so on. I think in van only front seats are comfortable. More than 2 people will feel more comfortable when traveling in car.

Well given we have an R1723, we have to vote for “trailer” but honestly what your daughter has done with her van is amazing. Absolutely love the interior decorating and those dresser drawers are amazing we prefer separate TV or else your daughter would have got our vote lol

I have a camper van simply because I didn’t want to purchase a tow vehicle. I LOVE LOVE Safari Condo and would even TOW this behind my rig ! Both are fantastic - just depends on your situation. Bravo 🚎😎

I just caught your channel surfing Google for the Alto camper you own. I saw it a few years ago when it first came out and wanted it soooo bad. Still do but it's hard plunking that much money down on such a small camper. I guess I haven't committed yet. Still waiting to figure it all out. I love love love the van and how cleverly everything was set up for convenience. For two people under 5'10" its perfect! HOWEVER, my vote goes to the trailer because it has a little more flexibility for slightly larger families and for the simple fact that the tow vehicle can be used to take the occasional trip without having to break down camp. Finally, for us all-electric folks out there the trailer is the only way to go!

@@hellochriscole This is exactly our setup. We picked up our Alto R1713 over the summer and drove it back home to the states with our Model Y. It does take a little longer, for sure, but it worked out for us because the Tesla supercharging infrastructure is everywhere we needed it and our children needed to stop every 1.5-2 hours anyway for potty breaks. For reference we averaged 55-60 mph while towing with an efficiency of 500-550 Wh/mi. There are several vehicles out there that get that kind of efficiency without pulling trailers.

On my boat I have a very large cutting board that fits the top drawer. So with a burner on the counter it gives you counter space in front of the burner

I vote trailer simply for the fact that you did not address having to run out and pick up some essentials after setting up camp. Having a separate tow vehicle is a big plus. The van is amazing though.

you didn't even mention all the storage under the beds in the Alto...nor, did you mention the fact that with a trailer, you don't have to break camp/leveling, etc., just to do day trips out of the campground. So, trailer wins, by far, in my opinion

The cost of entry to van life is so high that it puts it out of reach for the average working-class citizen. It is sure convenient to be able to just be able to pull in and you are ready to go but that is irrelevant if you can't even access a van. Therefore - trailer life for the win! The trailer may be a little less convenient in that you have to actually set up and tear down but you get more space anyway and most people can get into the lifestyle without breaking the bank.

For my needs I like the Alto- mostly because of the adaptable indoor living and windows. I also do not intend to live full time on my camper, so I do need some of the van features. A crucial factor not mentioned in the video is EXPENSE! The Alto can be towed with many vehicles, eliminating the need to purchase another vehicle.

Trailer. Husband is 6'5''. Need long bed, prefer exiting bed forward versus over another body when back door closed. Also the seperate car for daily use, especially when not camping! The van is a great design for young ones, ha ha

We gave a tour, just last weekend, to a guy who was 6’ 11” tall. He confirmed that it’s not seven feet tall inside lol. He said it might have been his shoes and our rug that pushed his height just a bit over the limit. 😂

I like both versions, for those who do not have a van, the trailer but the van is better for emergencies, you are inside it and you jump off the wheel and leave, in the trailer you would be trapped if they try to rob you.

Trailer only because I can’t fit a Campervan over 7’ in my garage. If I could find a pop-van with a bathroom sold in the USA. Toyota has a Sanna version in the UK but with only a portable toilet. OR a pricey VW extended van pop-top with an inside toilet again only currently available in the UK unfortunately. I would like to have everything self contained in one vehicle that has options to sleep 4 with a more private toilet than the Toyota but not as pricey as the VW extended van with toilet...still looking

Trailer for me. Because you don’t have to bring your house with you every time you pick up your groceries or your wood or you go out on an excursion. Plus the price of a trailer is a lot less than that of a van.
