I own 4 Vanagons, 1 syncro Camper, There's nothing like them. Been driving VW vans for 45 yrs, too. They were voted as 'one of the ten best classic cars in the world' by popular mechanics 1 yr ago. Syncro campers can go for over 100K in some areas. They are getting old now, I just sold my 33 YO Vanagon last week-It drove like new.

The most utilitarian vehicle you can own. I have an 87 camper with 220K miles, and I'll drive it anywhere. The VW bus (inc. Split window, Bay windows, etc.) is by far my favorite car. I still have a 63 Single cab truck, but regrettably sold my 71 and lost my 77 to an accident. My Porsche often stays in the garage...resting.

I own one and have not found a more comfortable vehicle for long road trips than the Vanagon. Mine is currently undergoing some restoration and bug troubleshooting before it can be trusted on a long road trip again, but once that process is complete I'll put another 250K miles on it going across the country another 6 times :D

@johnsboi Vanagons are easy to adjust to. The first adjustment is that you have no front hood, and then how much higher up you are when you switch back to a passenger vehicle.

Best vehicle out there. My dream car is a vanagon, and I own one. I can live in mine comfortably, I can travel the USA, I can learn how to work on engines (2.1L is simple). There is a ready-to-help network of vanagon nuts who love to hel other vanagon people. Mine is a 1988 Wolfsburg Weekender. I feel it is the perfect combo of camping and passenger use. Really let down by the engine. Especially the earlier 1.9. Didn't have great brakes either. Greatly improved by shoving a Subaru engine in the back and throwing the wasserleaker in the scrap metal pile
