I love this song. It used to remind me of the first boy I was in love with in college, at the time I first listened to this. Those feelings were wasted, of course, but the music I associated with that time in my youth will never be. Thanks Vance for providing some good background music to my young adult moping though. It's my first time returning to this song in years and it still makes me feel as giddy as it did, minus wasted feelings for some boy lol

[Red Eye] She don't like small places Give her highways and byways And don't get stuck in her head And it's been so long And I will read into everything you don't say All of your silent ways I'm a dog lying down on a warm bit of pavement Checking this collar you see what the name is Think that it's worth it? Well, I hope that you're right You're falling asleep on the red eye tonight And you know that you're looking well Won't you come through my door asking "how was your day? " Well you know that I'm still a dog And I'm trusting my nose Will it show me the way? I'm glad that you're still here Won't you hold up a candle? I'm stumbling in the dark And when I needed hope I remind myself that at least I got one thing right It will always be right I'm a dog lying down on a warm bit of pavement Checking this collar you see what the name is Think that it's worth it? Well, I hope that you're right You're falling asleep on the red eye tonight And you know that you're looking well Won't you come through my door asking "how was your day? " Well you know that I'm still a dog And I'm trusting my nose Will it show me the way? Won't you get out while you can? Won't you cover your eyes If you're tired of seeing? Won't you get out while you can? Try saving yourself Can we talk in the morning? Oh, baby it's late Can we talk in the morning? Oh, baby it's late Can we talk in the morning? Tell me when, tell me when Oh, baby it's late Can we talk in the morning? Tell me when, tell me when Oh, baby it's late, baby it's late

I'm with you. I'm a big fan of ed sheeran. Actually I knew Vance's song only riptide. But after I heard missing piece few days ago, I start listening to all of his songs, searching his live singing videos and starting to obsessed. I find myself admiring and loving him so much now. I want him being recognized more, but I don't want him lost his soul on his music because of popularity. Because, that's what I feel about Ed's new song.

what does he mean by "red eye" can someone explain the song for me? I tried reading the lyrics but i can't understand the analogy, metaphor or use of the "dog." Great Album by the way! I've liked the Georgia a lot.

A "red eye" flight is one that travels late at night (11pm - 6am). So she's falling asleep on the flight.
@Scheurthiaume10 жыл бұрын
A "red eye flight" is an expression for a flight that goes all through the night, because it is hard to sleep on planes so you often get red eyes.
@evething1to10010 жыл бұрын
the use of the phrase dog lying down on a warm bit of pavement means he is using the little he has got for a (short) period of time. The use of the phrase You know im still a dog means he is following her so as not to loose anything I think

I know this comment was written 3 years ago.. but I always relate this song with his another song "From Afar". At a concert he said he wrote that song when he was in long distance relationship and only had 5 hours (I assume the flight travel time) to make a decision. This song "red eye" always makes me think like this long distance thing wasn't going well, and he is travelling again to see her, overnight flight maybe - so she is falling asleep on the red eye maybe after a hurtful argument or she was about to break up? The dog metaphor makes me think that he is still loyal and waiting for her (to change her mind). Overall lyrics sound like he feels lost but still has hope (sitting on the "warm " bit of a pavement which is probably cold) that she will change her mind and give him clues. "Can we talk in the morning- baby it's late" sounds like he wants to avoid talking to her in case she asks to break up. It's just my interpretation of the song!

@timothy37323 жыл бұрын
OK I was getting into Vance Joy and got two of his CDs. Then as I was listening to him while bike riding, one song after the other, I realized something about him. ALL he ever pretty much sings about is relationships. And now I see that he is not gay so they would be about women. He is only songwriting and singing with his dick. C'mon dude. There is more to life than that shit. Write and sing about going to the dentist. Going out for a walk alone in the woods. A concern about something in the world. Surfing. Drinking with a male friend. ANYTHING but relations and emotions towards girls. ANYTHING. Yeah, two CDs of his are plenty.
