My name is Chrome i have been living in y cargo van for 6 years now. I started this lifestyle BROKE and IN DEBT and after 11 months of living the van life i cleared my debt and started to put my life back together and build for a better future. I have turned my original van into a badass camper van that is lifted with all the toys. Over the years i went from being broke and stealth camping in the city and sleeping at walmarts... to now, living fulltime in a jacked up van and driving deep off-grid into the backcountry and living life in the dirt. WOW LIFE HAS CHANGED.

Fuel pump is weak and getting hot and or gas tank vent system creating a vacuum causing low fuel pressure. Next time stop and open gas cap and see if problem stops.

ALSO, SINCE YOU ADDED THE EXTRA FUEL TANKS, DID YOU PUT A FILTER BETWEEN THE TANK AND TRANSFER PUMP, DID YOU CHANGE THE FRONT TANK P/U FILTER WHILE YOU HAD IT DOWN? AND LAST, DID YOU CHANGE THE MAIN FUEL FILTER WHILE YOU HAD EVERYTHING APART. YOU COULD HAVE KNOCKED A BUNCH OF CRAP FREE. AND JEFF HAS A GOOD POINT ABOUT THE VENT HOSES, DID YOU PINCH THE MAIN TANK VENT WHEN THE TANK WENT BACK IN? IT IS EADY TO DO. I agree, I try to replace fuel pumps when I drop the tank on all my vehicles. Could be a vacuum caused by the new tanks being added to the system too.

Just a note on Cruz. When you take him out of the van do not lift him out by his collar you could choke him or damage his wind pipe. Put a harness on him then lift him out of the van. You have done this several times and you could hurt Cruz.

He didn’t lift his whole body weight by the collar. He just took some of his weight to lessen the impact on Cruz’s shoulders as he jumped down. Also, bullys are so muscled in the neck region that the stress is less than a lighter framed dog. Ideal? No but dangerous? Eh. 48 years working (and lifting) with dogs.

Possibly vapour lock. You just had some fuel tank work done and new filler neck. Tank may not be venting properly. Cracking the gas cap will fix it until tank builds too much vacuum again. Basically your fuel pump is fighting the vacuum inside the tank. Idk just a thought.

As a mechanic we have gone camping and have had a few breakdowns The first going up 7% grades in Utah the truck overheated. Turns out one of my mechanics left a hose clamp off. However my main concern was to get off the road since I was towing a trailer and it was on a tight uphill turn. And had another breakdown on another trip. My point is I don’t let it get to me. It will work out. And you know what? It did work itself and it made for great future conversations. Don’t sweat it. As long as you have communications like I have my Garmin don’t work about it and enjoy the outdoors. Yes I know it’s better said than done Great videos!

Your last upgrade was fuel tanks so possibly something related to that. Possibly vapor lock? Try loosening the gas cap and listen for air getting pulled into the gas tanks.

Pop your gas caps off and see if you have a minor vacuum lock on your tank you might have to drive with your tank caps slightly off to allow for air to flow in and the fuel pump draws fuel out it needs air to replace the space

That adventure today was absolutely stunningly beautiful 😍 Your loss of power could be connected to the 2 new fuel tanks connected to your main tank. If the shut-off valve between them isn't working, then you would lose pressure, and not enough pressure to pump the fuel to your engine could be making the drop in power, especially when you're also using the air-conditioning too? I hope you can figure this out so you can relax and enjoy your tootles down more new places. You can make a bug spray with vanilla essence, cinnamon, and lavender oil to keep the bugs away, and it's safe for Cruise as well.

check your voltage to your fuel pump and make sure its getting at minimum 12.2V, otherwise try cracking the fuel cap next time it does it and see if it sucks air, if it does it may be a plugged vent, or it could even be the hot weather causing problems, you just had fuel tank work done and the aux tank may not be venting properly or the primary with the modifications may be improperly venting and not allowing enough air to come back Into the tank to replace the fuel being drawn out, if its a non-return system it could even be the heat causing a vaporlock scenario where the fuel in the lines is replaced partially with fuel vapor at pressure instead of being completely full of fuel, as the google search said, it could be any number of things, but i doubt its anything catastrophic, likely just some venting issues, you might also just for saying it was checked, check to make sure your air filter isn't clogged with dust from that road you were on previously, small things like that can cause big problems over time, just my .02 cents bro, stay safe out there, and glad you got the van choochin' again, stay safe and happy journeys

Great video. What beautiful country even to break down in. It reminded me of a trip my dad and I made up into the high country near Methow WA USA back in 1998. We were in my 1981 Ford Econoline and it was my home at the time. We wanted to drive to the highest point you could drive in Washington state which was Washington pass. The road was narrow and the weather was very hot. Right at the narrowest point on the road, a place called Dead-horse Pass, my van died. For some reason I was calm as a cucumber but my dad was stifling what I could tell was on the verge of panic. For some reason though and I'm not a mechanic, I assumed it was a vapor lock in the fuel line. After giving the van some time I was able to start it and we went a little further when it conked out again. At that point we decided to hike the rest of the way. When we got back towards evening, the van started up and never had that issue again. But then again I never attempted climbing to the highest point anywhere on the hottest day of the year again.

I once had the same problem with my engine. It would fade at certain stress points. Somebody told me it could be a vacuum leak. "Vacuum leak, what's that?" I said. I looked over every rubber hose and anything that was metal including what came out of or entered the tranny. It was a slow teadius go but I found a vacuum leak and fixed it easy peasy. It fixed the trouble. With your new engine build it's a good possibility. Good luck.

If you have the OBD II diagnosis plug, you can buy a monitor for all engine functions and parameters. Speed shop, programmable as well. Without modifying anything. Summit, Jeg's.

All good comments on your engine. I would also check the routing of the fuel lines. Engine hot, temp hot, slow speed and uphill can be a vapor lock or partial vapor lock if fuel lines are close to a heat source like your no factory exhaust.

Had a similar problem but mechanic found rodents ate through my engine wiring, especially MAF which was hanging by a thread of wire. $3300 later my F150 has so much passing power. Good luck with the van.

Majority links vapor lock .remove both caps. And let it breathe when it happens. If you hear air sucking in its prob not enough return, or your getting vacuum between old tanks n new. Either way it time to let the mechanics figure it out.. Also could be mass airflow sensor needs replaced..

When one stops after slow driving without much under hood airflow, the engine's intake air can get really hot and this will starve any engine of power until enough air flow returns to get intake air temps closer to outdoor ambient temps. With airplanes this is referred to as density altitude, and can put the engine at the equivalent of being thousands of feet higher in the thinner air. Naturally aspirated engines are de-rated 3% in power for every 1000ft above sea level. This is especially noticeable when stopping for just a few minutes with the engine off. You're spoiled driving near sea level with cool air, maximal power zone.

Doesnt sound like you have a satellite communicator like a garmin. With a pup, and the backroads it would be a great idea. You could message folks if you needed help when out of cell range. Then you could get to the end of these roads instead of just peaking through the front door so to speak. :) safe travels

Check the air filter for the engine isnt clogged from dust. All that dust you had come into the van, the engine was filtering that air. If clogged it could be low on power uphill because it needs more air

Issue could be one of two things based on what was touched last, issue with your primary fuel tank (pickup issue, loose wiring, or fuel running into your aux tanks from primary on an incline). I say that because on your way down you said it was fine. Other could be your alternator was charging your house batteries and not your starter battery, less likely as it wouldn't change by going downhill.
