Thank You Brian Orser for being Yuna's coach. You definitely is huge part of her success and everyone appreciate what you have done for her. I remember young Yuna always talk in short sentences, not laugh loud like here, show her frustration, not smile etc.. Not Orser raised her skill levels but he taught her lot in arts, music and how to love the figure skating and be positive minded.

Yuna Kim has a great talent, Brian Orser made that talent shine even more. I wish Mao Asada had a great coach like Brian so we can all watch great competitions between Yuna and Mao once again.

She deserve to make all that money.. First Her parents worked but off to make her here, private lesson, rent rink, traveling.. Korea don't have ice rink like Canada or USA, it is just not right sports for Koreans to be professional. But now with all these success, I am sure things will be lot better in Korea and more young kids wants to be figure skaters like Yuna

She is an AMAZING Talent. CONGRATULATIONS! Commercialization of culture, sport, talent and the arts is edemic in all cultures even more so now. I'm British, I remember when Torvill & Dean won even back then Britain tried to claim some "value", they trained in Germany with a British coach, Britain had NO facilities for them. I guess it is a fact of modern life. What's remarkable is she seems unaffected by the attention, a very lovely young lady as well as one of the greatest figure skaters.

I wonder how Brian Orser can coach Yuna well, knowing she is limited in her English. Even translation doesn't carry through everything so it's surprising to me how well they work.

Yuna got the best of two worlds. By Being born a Korean and thus being "repetitious" made her great in the "technical" sense. By training in Toronto she learned from the creative talents of her Canadian coaches.

Nothing short of sensational.

WOW... Orser beat himself up for a decade 'cause he only had two Olympic Silvers and no Gold... Elite athletes are just wired differently... That level of competitiveness and self-deprecation is unhealthy!
@shalom1948hellyeah15 жыл бұрын
@cgkitti "repetition" accounts for 3 of Yuna's huge technical advantages: her consistency in jumps, her speed, and her stamina. Orser has stated that Yuna came to him complete with all her jumps and that he hasn't done much technically with her, and Mao attributed her faults in her FS to her being fatigued halfway through the program. You need an attitude adjustment, open your mind and realize that there's no "bad" or "good" in either system but advantages/disadvantages to each.

deer-in-headlights look when I ask something open-ended. But on the pro side, the kids do have a great understanding of what I'm teaching and can answer questions pertaining to the material very well. Anyway, I watched this video as I am a fan of Ms. Kim. Nowhere have I made any negative comment about her, her coach, or even her country for that matter. I was simply concurring with a comment made in the video about Korea, Kim's country. There really was no need to imply that I have a

bad or inappropriate attitude or that I am narrow-minded. I know people on KZbin like to attack people and yes, some of it is warranted, but I feel that you just made an assumption about my comment and my character without any real evidence to back it up. It's quite ironic because at least once every day I am find myself reflecting on the advantages and disadvantages of various aspects my culture and the culture I am currently living.

Please show me in my one sentence comment where I said that one system was good or bad. I wasn't even commenting on Kim Yu-Na's skating,but on Korea itself. I live and teach in Korea. A lot of emphasis on the education is about repetition. And I can see the good and bad on this. Yes, they learn and can memorize very well, but when it comes to doing something spontaneously or creatively, many of of the kids choke. Not all of them, of course, but a great deal of them have the
