Vancouver Skytrain 1988 & lost EXPO 1986 area

A vintage ride with the Skytrain in march 1988 in Vancouver between "Stadium" station and "Main". you will miss some buildings und streets. but the lost area of the 1986 EXPO 2 years earlier was still there.

I remember the first day they allowed passengers on to ride between Main St. and Broadway Station before it officially opened. That entire neighbourhood around False Creek has changed a lot.

1:00 I remember how this all looked back then, before the towers went up, 1:22 now you cant even see Broadway, wow no Vancity Bank yet. Love the memories

Vancouver was much better then. I think all of Metro Van started going downhill around 2001-2002

Jayson Deleon bad government, financial problems, bad handling of mental health facilities so mentally ill ppl migrated to east van, money laundering from the government and sky-high rent.

100 percent agreed. 2002 was definitley when it started. Can see old videos of how vibrant Metrotown was in 1999 and 2000. @bakedsodium6528 nailed it too. Cost of living has just gone through the roof for various reasons due to bad government.

The announcer sounds different than the more "iconic" one we have now. Announcement ding sounds different too I wonder what they stored all the sound effects on back then. Was it early hard drives and an early sound file format?

Likely early digital storage. These Mark 1 train are still used today (with updated announcements), though they recently went through a refurbishment and should be good for another 15 years...LInear induction motors have been refreshed too. Very durable design. I do like the old voice though clear and with decent annunciation so it could be heard pretty clearly in most conditions. Calgary person does current announcement. Ironically C train system in Calgary uses someone from The states for their 🤪
