The problem in Victoria is there are lots of older drivers and Karens. You expect them to slowly react and do random things. In addition to ICBC N and L signs, There really should have been a “S” sign for senior and a “K” sign for Karens.

James on the e-bike made his own driving mistake in that he cut in front of pedestrians crossing at the crosswalk. This is a very dangerous manoeuvre. James saw them more than likely, but the drivers, bike or otherwise might not be paying attention and just go because someone like James did. I have been nearly mowed down in Maple Ridge because of this when crossing with the walk signal at Lougheed and 227th street. There will be cars lined up to turn left and the lead car leaves on the green to beat me ( not hard to do ) to get through the intersection. The car behind them just goes taking their lead from the car in front. I do not know exactly what the law requires as it is vague, but the walk signal does give the pedestrian the right of way until they are across. Not much comfort if you are hit.

@ 5:45, it is okay to use the bike lane for turning right and drive over the solid whites lines? I didn't know this. With or without a bike, I thought this was an illegal maneuver. Can you tell me where (in the MVA) it states that this is allowed?
@CDBC2 жыл бұрын
The solid white line must become dotted to allow changing lanes across it. Like they do if there's a bus stop. Otherwise you have to turn from the rightmost lane you're allowed to be in; this is actually a good idea because it allows the vehicle driver to keep his car aligned straight, which means his right side mirror covers the bike lane for any cyclists coming up there.

I love your website, way back in 1975 it was the summer after my first year of University and I worked as a Driver Examiner in Cranbrook BC for that summer. I went on to work as an Immigration Officer, but I did enjoy the driver examiner work. This year I turned 73 last March, and I surrendered my Driver's License and got a BC ID card instead. I didn't surrender it because of my driving, I just don't need to drive around anymore and I don't trust the drivers here. I haven't driven in Vancouver for over 15 years, and I won't drive in Vancouver as the drivers are terrible here. I love Vancouver, it just has a lot of bad drivers it seems.

5:44 That there bike lane is marked by a solid - not a dotted - white line there. So by my reckoning it is NOT OK for the driver to move into the lane prior to his right turn. No argument though, he should not have made any maneuver until the cyclist had been able to pass him.

5:17 James needs to remember that pedestrians also have the right-of-way. The signal is flashing, but they can still cross. Looks like karma came for him at the next crossing.
@CDBC2 жыл бұрын
If there's a pedestrian signal (you know, the white pedestrian / red don't walk hand (or red numerical-countdown) the pedestrian is legally obligated to obey that signl. And that means, if they're not facing the white pedestrian symbol, then stepping off the curb is now ILLEGAL. Not that our cops or bylaw officers ever do anything about it, these days ... (If there isn't a separate pedestrian signal, the pedestrian can only step into the crosswalk if the light is green. Most of 'em don't know that, of course.)
@shanefindscomics2 жыл бұрын
@@CDBC Johnson St is 5 lanes across & they've crossed 3 of 5 lanes. More than likely they started crossing when it was white and only made it partway before the countdown (still showing) started. He more than likely cut them off.

That clip at 7:15 is on Duncan Ave in Penticton. I live near there. I see many morons run that red light. They figure because it's pedestrian controlled they can go if no one is in the intersection, because supposedly it is not a "real' red light. I seen some close calls at that intersection with red light runners. The light is easy to see. I will look through my camera later this week. Was following a guy in a Dodge (Fiat in reality) pickup by Osoyoos weaving back and forth for a bit. Appeared to be diddling on his phone

7:04 well the cammer had a yellow turn arrow so he has to yield ? ( we only have a green arrow that is either on or off but never yellow ^^)
@cheallaigh2 жыл бұрын
some lights go through the same cycle as the main ones with arrows... so green for go, yellow to stop or only proceed with caution, and red meaning don't go. flashing green lights for mains are an advanced green, which is a protected left turn and or pedestrian controlled.

@@vancouversworstdrivers We don't seem to get as many driving on the left side of the road. The occasional over the centerline headlight kisser happens once in a while. One of my favorite roads is Washington State Route 9 between Arlington and Clear Lake. Scenic during the day but you will notice that there is NO SHOULDER on many of the windy stretches and that white border stripe looks very faded. 9 is fine from the border crossing at Sumas to Sedro Wooley but if the Sun is going down, I strongly recommend going over to I-5.
