They look incredible! Respect for fallen flags. Man I hope CSX doesn’t touch these. My only complaint is they aren’t likely to venture north to other states. Would pass out if I saw that Chessie nose through Ohio!

Seeing as how well painted they are (being no stray paint, the fact that everything is centered and not crooked in anyway) this was probably done by some back shop employees who had a little spare time with the locos. To get all the paint to dry and do multiple coats without streaking or chipping would be impossible is a single night.

Oh nooo, poor CSX, the multi-billion dollar corporation. What will they ever do with their thousands of other units that all bear the same paint job, if these few cannot look the exact same? I hope they keep going. I hope they keep reminding CSX of all the railroads they had to bulldoze their way over to get where they are now. Keep reminding people of what the US looked like with worthwhile railroads, with lines that actually connected the nation and kept people and freight moving instead of getting people killed trying to get another dime in their CEOs' pockets. These units are amazing and I applaud the person or people doing this. This is professional quality work and should never be painted over.

I'm gonna just stop you right there at 2:46 and mention that each of these EMD's had previously gone through the Cedartown shops before getting their nose jobs. It's pretty safe to assume it's the Cedartown shop crews that have been painting the noses of these engines, not some rando that's trespassing on CSX property. It's also worth noting that the 3 EMD's that got their noses painted originally came from the railroads their noses were repainted into.
@szfof81342 ай бұрын
I think I can safely say that, while we appreciate the fact you've made a video documenting the event, your motive for this entire video feels...peculiar. First and foremost, these are units given their heritage back through vandalism, not vandalized heritage units. Second, it is literally harmless to pretty much everyone. Railfans on the whole like it, both as an in joke to the official heritage units, as well as the fact they just look well done, and CSX, even if they are embarrassed, don't seem to really be doing much on the matter, however they might be doing things outside of my contacts because I can assure you they already know. Next, your theory crafting seems peculiar at best and malicious at worst. This information is not difficult to research in any capacity, as you have shown that just looking at like two websites per unit, CSX's roster and the predecessor road's roster for confirmation, is all that needed to be done. In addition, the theory you persistently tried saying, though admitted was false, didn't even have merit, as you said you've been following the saga from sources that would have mentioned the fact these locomotives were vandalized into paint they once would have wore, so it would be silly to say that "just by chance" a locomotive's nose was repainted to represent a road it had previously operated. Then there's the "they're targeting EMD road switchers deliberately" note. Which like, yes, and no. This is also a theory, but it's most likely they're targeting these Geeps because they're the only ones left in revenue earning service with very few eyes on them from a predecessor road, if an SW or SD or even an old U-Boat or what have you was well known in its location, operation, and lack of surveillance, they would also likely be made targets. In all, thanks for the video, get off your high horse next time.

It's not "vandalizing heritage units" when the units in question weren't heritage units.
@a_steinman2 ай бұрын
Yeah, it is kinda misleading when he keeps saying that and puts it in the video title. I mean yes technically it is still vandalism, but it isn't like normal vandalism. It's done tastefully, looks good and honors the railroads own history.
@joshmeister4449Ай бұрын
So far, the few EMD's that have gotten these nose jobs at the Cedartown shops (It's the shop crews doing it) are of the heritage that their noses are being painted in, so in a way, using the word "Heritage" unit is somewhat accurate for these EMD's since their new nose paint is accurate to the railroad those engines originally came from.

It's NOT Vandalized it's the Railfan way of saying paint the heritage engine cab and the rest of the engine the right way. How would you like this if NS did this Crap Cab job on there Heritage Units? I would have never bought any of there Units in Ho Scale, Posters, Books etc. CSX should have never painted the cabs with there logo because you know it hurts those employees who lost there jobs from the merger. Do it right or Not at all. I wouldn't want my company logo on my newly repainted car and the same goes for these engines.

If your going to do an expert job painting heritage schemes on the front quarter of a locomotive, why not just finish off the three quarter done shop painted heritage units 😂...I was told by an employee in Huntington west VA that it's an unofficial inside company job done by paint shop volunteers. The joke was newer GEs had the rears done, so they did the opposite side on some older EMDs sense the leftover paint and letters were available from the original project. Not sure how true it is though.

Just some constructive criticism, I feel like a lot of the talking could’ve been cut out and the point could’ve been gotten to a lot quicker. This is more than likely a csx employee who has painting experience. The paint work is done with accuracy that a vandal doesn’t not pose. The Chessie cat is the proper size on the nose. The rf&p and l&n also have the same amount of expertise done as well. Those units had to of been shopped for service. That would allow this person the time and access to the units.

To get all the paint to dry and do multiple coats without streaking or chipping would be impossible is a single night. Side note. My uncle used to work the paint shop crews he said that the locos would have never moved under revenue service if it wasn’t accepted by the higher ups. And the company wouldn’t care. 1. Their loco gets a new coat of paint and won’t need to be touch for a while again. 2. It didn’t cover up any reporting marks, the headlights are still visible and you can still tell what loco it is.

This isn't a crew of graffiti writers breaking in and "bombing" the Loco, this takes time and is professionally done. Out of a paint shop.Besides have you seen what graffiti writers put on the freight cars and locomotives. They ain't turning those pieces of equipment into heritage units.
@thedemolitionmuniciple3 ай бұрын
You realize that what is referred to as "graffiti" is not all that can be done with spray cans, right? These paint jobs most certainly could be done by someone, or a team of people, overnight. With spray cans or with gallon cans, either or. CSX clearly isn't doing it, nor would I ever expect such a corporation to even want to pretend to care about what they had to bulldoze to get where they are today. Then again, I guess UP and NS wear their conquered flags like a trapper does animal furs.
@Corky3D2 ай бұрын
Not really, it's done on a siding, it's really not hard to get stuff to look semi decent with spray paint, tape and some vinyl for the logos. When you get close there's quite a few flaws and a lot of overspray. The Chessie for instance has tons and tons of overspray. If they were "professionals" I'd question all their work.
@RandomRailfan8282 ай бұрын
Now I do think this is pretty unique, I do hope CSX does put a stop to this. Fortunately the damages aren’t too severe and seemed to be well liked, this does raise red flags on how easily it is to trespass on railroad property. I hope CSX and other railroads can put a stop to this or the situation could get way worse.
