I'd run your diesel heater on full power for 30 mins once a month and after using it on low power for a few hours, It helps keep the burn chamber soot level down. I've done that with my Autoterm for the last 4 years and not had a single issue with the heater 🙂The controller you have does display a reminder about running the heater for 30 mins each month but I noticed you power the heater off so you probably don't see the message.

I passed through Hereford, while cycling in the UK, and spotted a very strange creature swimming in the River Wye. There were, of course, a number of stately white swans swimming serenely near the bridge. However, there was also a single very large white and grey swan swimming at an amazing speed along the river. It was moving so quickly that I thought it might be some sort of radio controlled boat made to look like a swan. Does anyone know what this might have been?

Diesel is an oil and doesn't 'go off' like petroleum...there are additives to co8unteract the algae/funguy thing - sometimes heating fuel etc suppliers sell 'ready treated' diesel/kero (and usual;ly charge a little more for this)

Great walking tour of Hereford and Happy New Year. If you find the voltage drop more than it should be when the heater is starting up, change the cheap Chinese toggle switch. The vendors say they are rated for 20a, but they get hot when switching 10a or more. I used one as an isolation switch for my diesel heater and it melted.
@Vandemonium17 күн бұрын
Cheers, it’s an Autoterm unit not one of the cheap ones, no problem at all.
@debbie6214017 күн бұрын
@@Vandemonium The Autoterm is a great heater. You probably already know that the supply fuse is 25a. That's because, like all diesel heaters, the glow plug draws a high current on startup. Just suggesting you keep an eye on that so called 20a switch, that's all. Best wishes.
@Vandemonium17 күн бұрын
It’s a long time since I installed it but I don’t remember any such switch. There’s the control panel but that doesn’t feed the power to the unit directly. As I recall, I wired it through a dedicated fuse in the 12V fusebox in which case I will have used an appropriately-sized fuse according to the manual.

A happy and joyous New Year to you. Hereford looks quite interesting, I'll add it to my list of places to attempt if I get to England next year. Two things on the video. First a question, do the English use Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance for every marching occasion such as graduations and the like? Here in the States it's the only piece of music used. Second, thank you for your pronunciation of Jacobean. My fellow Americans insist that it's a green vegetable and pronounce it as such. Quite annoying. I may save that bit of audio to my phone to pull it out when the discussion of architecture turns to the early 1600's.

As someone of a similar age to your self I get a bit fed up with everyone banging on about AI, but could I suggest you have a conversation with one of the AI chat bots about quantum physics, and the questions you have. I was in a similar situation, trying to get my head around the cosmic background radiation, (as you do). I found it very helpful having the ability to ask questions in this conversation style. The chat bot has the patience of a saint, asking followup questions and getting it to re explained things I didn't understand is no problem to it. It's not perfect, and I wouldn't stake my life on its answers, but I did find the answers or rather the understanding I was looking for. I used Microsoft Copilot, that just sort of worked it's way on to my windows 10 laptop. Let me know if you try it and how you get on.
@stargazer578417 күн бұрын
Good video David. Thx for posting. I'm a retiree and have pursued amateur astronomy for over 40 years. Concerning quantum physics... It's implications are quite often counterintuitive, and gaining a useful working knowledge of the subject can be very difficult. Additionally, there's basically nothing that you'll be able to learn that would have any real impact on your day to day life. I studied astronomy and nuclear physics in college as my major subjects, and if you're cultivating a personal interest in the universe that we live in, I would suggest that you start with trying to learn about basic nuclear physics first, as basic nuclear processes are what drives the energy production in stars. Concurrently, start doing some reading about special and general relativity. Don't worry, you won't have to engage in any mathematical mental gymnastics to, after a period of time, start gaining a basic understanding of what makes the universe tick, and why things in the sky look the way they do. Cheers. P.S. I would enjoy corresponding with you on this and other science related subjects, but I don't do social media, and I'm not sure how we could securely exchange email addresses.
@Vandemonium17 күн бұрын
Cheers but it's the quantum stuff I'm curious about!
@stargazer578417 күн бұрын
@@Vandemonium 👍 Fair enough, but just remember that the quantum world deals exclusively with the sub-microscopic realm that you can never see, while relativity and nuclear physics pretty much covers everything that we can see with telescopes, and hear with radio telescopes, like the CMB (cosmic microwave background). Keep in mind as well that there is much in quantum physics that isn't etched in stone, and that many scientists aren't in full agreement concerning how it should be applied, especially when trying to quantize gravity and time. Good luck in your endeavor. You're getting ready to dive into a very deep rabbit hole. 🤔
