Niklaus Fletcher try to make some "metres", with your gravermax graver, it's really the fastest way to master the technique. 1.25mm zirconia's in a 3-row uneven setting around a 5mm plain straight wedding ring will get you lots of understanding and experience to build your skills on.have fun!

Not as easy as you may think, just wait till you are confronted with old cut diamonds that are not perfectly round and have a deep girdle, then you come up with a square diamond where you have to cut the seating by hand with gravers, how do I know 50 years in the trade just setting gems

HI Robert Pjeter, Yes there is. IF I won't do this I might risk tilting the diamonds to one side. So by skipping one and there after doing the other side I should have all diamonds level ;-)

Lucy Dyamond with a air powered pneumatic graver we push nice bright cuts in the metal. I suggest you watch the video (or one of my others) once again. ;-)

I bought the diamond thin disks and the Jura yellow, blue and the rough gray diamond disks to polish the surface of my gravers but I am having hard to how to properly use them to sharpen, polish so they are easy to use. Do you have any videos you could share with us or point me in the right direction on how to make one from scratch or even improve and polish an existing one? Ever the grateful here. Love you videos.

Gulsah.. I know its hard but it gets easy when you think what degree angle graver you need.. Picture the angle on the graver and then cut. It will be much easier. Dont forget the heel polish. If you can, id say buy the book Jewelry Engravers Manual. Its cheap but goes into detail regarding how to shape gravers in terms of angles and what angle is best for what kind of cut and how to prepate and use grabers

Hi Gulsah, Indeed, you have to practice and practice. What I also do, is re-use old ball-burs to cut a graver from it. (only the Carbide tip burs). This makes a good and cheap practice

This is really amazing. I have a question though. Why do you make the initial drilling between the marks you made? Aren't those marks so the drill won't slip? At least that is what I've learned. I'm very new to this. Just been watching many tutorials but haven't found the courage to actually give it a go.

No the marks are to make sure the holes will be as closely together as possible. If you drill on the mark you loose your point of reference.

Great video!!! I'm learning engraving and would like to know what is the distance you mark the holes. Is there a rule like twice the size of the diamonds?

0.85mm Same distance of the diamonds. You drill -in between- the dots.

Simple 'nail' with a hollow point and some water. Cohesion =)

Looks same as a staking set punch having a concave tip. Watchmakers and repair guys use these staking sets for multi purpose. The punches can be found individually. Though they have the same, larger cross section size the tips will get quite small.

Hi Bob, nothing more than a 'nail' with a hollow tip and a sponge with water. I 'dip' the tip in the sponge and than it will attach to the 'table' of the diamond. Matter of Cohesion =)

Cherokee Rogiest I don’t drill on the center. I drill in between. This way I make sure I keep my indication marks to guide my drilling. ;-)

0.85 mm.. jees that is small, very good work! How do you adjust the height of the diamonds, just push them in differently hard? But you have to be quite dam exact with the holes depth when you drill the holes anyway would be my guess.

Question for you boss! If I have a watch and the I can get the stones myself, would it be cheaper to get 200 1mm stones set or 100 2 mm stones? I believe setting is around $100 per carat around me so would a whole bunch of pave 1mm stones actually end up being cheaper due to the lesser carats? Thanks!

Hi The Real Fly, It would be much cheaper to set 100 2 mm stones. Good quality diamond setting, especially in steel or platina is much more expensive than 1-3 $/stone. email me for an inquiry. [e-mail]

HI Ricky, these indentatoins are actually marks to drill between. They are to mark the edges of the diamonds. ;-) The drill moves at 300 rotations/minuite so it's very slow and I can easily center it without the indentation.

beautifully executed but alas just not thought about,i have been a jeweller for over 40 years,and one thing i despise the most is any stone that is not open to the back,trust me moisture and human body debris will accumulate behind the stone (beautiful white highly refractive diamonds),and god knows what else,dish water,real life stuff,this which is often acidic and will tarnish the metal as well as form a black layer up hard against the stone,good bye reactivity.and therefore all sparkle,it is very difficult to remove for the owner,sure as a jeweller we can run it through the ultrasonic,but really hard to repolish bright behind the stones without removing them,lol,so a simple 0.5 drill right through,with a small taper on the inside,to take of sharp edge solves this problem,run a drill through for gods sake why not.?? ,

HI Stephen, thanks for taking the time to write such an elaborate reply. I believe a lot of moisture comes from inside the ring and therefore piles up below the stones. I also don't drill trough to give this very narrow ring some more strength. The only time I normally completely drill trough is, when the client asks or when we do flush settings. ;-)

That is a "graver" Joe, it is used to remove small amounts of metal on each side, and then across to obtain small prongs to then "rock" or bend over the stones to hold them.

vandoorenniels first of all,to keep your drills safe and long lasting...you must lubricate it with an oil or with wax with every hole you make(it gives you the balance and speed in drilling process) and in case of the round drills you can cool it down by emerging in pevla wax (the hard orange or dark red wax),that also make you save the round drill for more holes in higher speed process,and overlasting.you dont need to draw lines with the compas in order to get straight symmetric holes for each stone(you should make the dots symmetrically after several practice and for the main speed process...use T wheel(messeinger) for grilling the both sides(depends the size of the stone...),(i personally use 0.12mm for the stones 0.08mm to 0.16)that will make your lines and angles more sharp and firm,in much higher speed of finishing the lines,that will help you do shiny lines with your bezel in no time,then you can use thicker T wheel for clearing the essential gold between the 2 holes in the same width and height with brighter straight lines between 2 holes(it will helps alot during polish and its way faster you using conic grind).hope this helps....and remember always use lubrication for cooling down the drills and round drills so you wont get melting pevla waxes,that will decrease your speed.good luck!
