The quality of soft rock adult contemporary music that was made in the 80s and 90s will remain unparalleled and irreplicable

For me there’s a big difference between the over-the-top cheesy pop of that period and the rich ballads like this, as well as a lot of the studio versions of the prime Disney decade, the ‘90s.

@JanKowalski-vj9py8 ай бұрын
In the same category falls "Promise me" by Beverly Craven. A huge hit at a time though musically it was no longer into 80-ties. Arranged and usually performed in the style of "vocal nocturne" brings the emotional story of incoming separation starting with growing fear and anxiety but ending in acceptable consolation. Ability to write open message and enclose it with appropriate music has long been lost.

Clearly the most beautiful woman to ever live. This song came out in January of 1992. I was sad and young and lonely and hopeless. I heard this song while working at a bar/restaurant. It was late evening. There was light snow in a place that rarely ever has snow. And the woman who sings this song that night didn't, couldn't know it, but by her song, she gave me romance and the idea of love and happiness and hope. And now it's been a long time since then and maybe there was no real reason to hope for happiness after all. But that night I felt it and have never forgotten it. Thanks, V You'll always be my Miss America.

Agreed. SHe's underrated in terms of "the most beautiful women in America". Don't think she's made it onto any list (not that I follow that stuff intentionally). She had that "beauty pagent level beauty". She was Miss America iirc...till she decided to do her Penthouse nude layout with some other chick. Calculated move. Which I think worked. Got her a needed jump start into her movie/singing career...cost her the Miss America crown... Beautiful lips. Best shaped IMHO. Ideal. Some "beautiful women" might not have nice lips. I think that matters too.. Mixed race people are generally more attractive when they are. She is half black/white. I think she was (and still is) better looking than a Sophie Vagara...who was at one time said to be "the most beautiful woman..." according to some standard. :P ?? It's make up. Ever see her w/o? YIKES!! Vanessa Williams doesn't need it. Even today. There are photos of her with next to no makeup on. Still beautiful. As a singer...I'd say she's decent"...good voice here...but not at the same level as some of the "legends"....Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBell, Whitney Houston..Glennis Grace (Dutch)...

I was a sophomore in high school when this song came out and had a crush on a guy who was a junior, I used to listen to this song hoping it would turn out the same. I had first seen him in junior high, the crush lasted 4 years and he never even knew I existed. During that time I wasn't interested in anyone else and I didn't even date anyone. After high school, I eventually dated other people but I never felt the same about anyone. I was infatuated with an ideal but I never even knew what he was like, I just saw him from afar and turned him into the perfect guy.

So, I love all of the singers mentioned and I feel no need to deride any of them. In their vocal primes, all of them had beautiful voices, but obviously very different vocal ranges and singing styles. I happen to enjoy both styles of singing but for different reasons. And it largely has to do with my mood. Think all of them made beautiful songs, and it’s really a matter of stylistic preference. Vanessa has a very pleasant voice that’s very peaceful to listen to, but she also sings in a style that is easy enough to sing along to for the average person who isn’t a good singer. Whitney and Mariah also have beautiful voices, but because of their extraordinary power and range, they sing in a more complicated style that the average person can’t really sing along with. Vocal runs, power belting, and whistle notes are just things that most people can’t do. So it’s mostly about admiring their skill, than actually appreciating the lyrics of the music.
