REST IN PEACE MASTER VANGELIS, THANKS FOR ALL THE MUSICAL GIFT YOU LEFT US! Thanks to you, when my father introduce me to your music in a little town in Mexico I got myself transported to another universe. It was awesome not just see and read about the universe, but to actually hear it. Definitely, if the forces that rules the cosmos have a sound, they would sound like you just described in all your work. Thank you because now, in my late twenty's I still believe that universe can be understood while keeping the magic behind the process. This is music for the experience of being alive, we must keep it as an artist gift!

When I was 17, back in 1986, I was going through a bad time of my life, hard home life, mixed with the wrong crowd, a growing criminal record and getting worse by the month, etc etc etc. After 4 court appearances, the next step was child prison, Borstal. A new programme had just started to stop kids automatically being pushed into Borstal and luckily I was put on that programme, The Tracking Scheme, run by 4 extraordinary people, Steve, Nikki, Debbie and John. On one weekend away, the leader of this group took me out onto Bosham Harbour in a two man sailboat. It was bliss to actually be treated as a child that yearned some attention. After our outing, I asked to borrow the video camera to sit and film the sailboats up and down the harbour, and the same guy gave me this piece of music to listen to thinking it may go with my video I was planning. He showed me how to film whilst plugging in the sound to create a 9 minute movie. We then showed it to the others on the programme. Thank you John. You turned my life around. God bless you.

What a great story. Thanks for sharing. I can certainly relate. I left a home full of violence in northern England at 16, moved 240 miles away, and clumsily fended for myself for a couple of years, getting into drugs and bad crowds and trouble. How I didn't end up with a criminal record I will never know, but I can only think it was God looking out for me. I had a crappy little job, lived in one room in a boarding house, never had enough money for food or the electricity meter under the sink, and was desperately lonely. The first time I heard this music was in a movie theatre in Reading, Berks in (I think) 1979. It was a supporting program to the main film and showed RAF fighter pilots flying around Scotland. The music, combined with the sounds of the jets and the voices of the pilots over the radios and intercoms was mesmerizing. I didn't have the wherewithall to be a pilot, but I ended up joining the Army (infantry) in 1981 and have served ever since. 39 years now! Been married to the same awesome lady for 31 years and have two great adult sons who both graduated from college. This music holds a lot of emotion for me from back when I was a wide-eyed kid not knowing what life would hold for me.

Dear Vangelis, I just want to let you know, whenever your soul may be ascending to, is similar to what you left to us in this world. The burning tears that I had for my late father who passed away on January 12, 2020 is the very same as of May 17, 2022. I believe many also felt the same. You spoke of love, courage, sympathy, greatness and hope like no one else could. When it was and will be difficult, you were the father; friend; light; closer to God and to nature itself for every single heart that listened to you. And for that, I really do hope that heavens exist so we/I can thank you there. All that is left is to carry the blissful smile in honor of your existence that happened once in a lifetime. May your spirit of sound never rest and echo for eternities.

Vangelis had an amazing philosophy on music. That its a universal language that can be understood no matter what language you speak. I will take that with me through the rest of my life. He's the reason i got into making music in the first place. He was a gift. Now, he has arrived at Ithaca after a long musical adventure. Thank you for being you Vangelis. Thank you for the memories. :)

A complete musical genius since his time in Aphrodite's Child yet someone who never let fame and success overshadow him. His compositions will outlive him for many many years and we have so much to thank him for. My vinyl's and CD's cover most of his catalogue yet Heaven and Hell remains my enduring favourite closely followed by Albedo 0.39. RIP Evangelos.

As the opening track to Portraits, I remember this song most clearly as I was falling asleep to it. My dad had brought back Conquest of Paradise from a trip to Europe, and as we investigated Vangelis' works, we favoured this one to fall asleep to. We used to put the CD in the boom box between mine and my brother's room, and drift off to that album and the imaginations it would inspire. Shine on, bright star.

GENIO

This song gives me a strong sense of nostalgia for my father. He loved Vangelis. The higher notes have always sounded like such a sweet voice singing.
@valiaspapaioannou19672 жыл бұрын
That touched a sensitive chord there. My father actually knew Vangelis. My father's best mate (who turned out to be the one who baptised me, God rest his soul) and Vangelis were attending the same school in Athens back in the late '50s. Plus, Vangelis's cousin, happened to live in the same street as my dad's. Eventually they met and sometimes they hang out together. My father actually holds a portrait of him sketched by Vangelis (he was a very good painter too). One night they went out to a club in order to see an American jazz band that had comme to play in Athens. That night, my dad says, Vangelis got up from his chair, went to the band and asked them if he could play the drums (he was very good at that too). They said yes. They were in awe of his talent. Unfortunately, my father has lost track of him ever since... At least, his music still keeps my dad, and me, company...

I first started listening to this musical genius in May of 2020. I was in the hospital recovering from a left lung transplant. On the TV you could listen to around 20 or so music channels. This channel named chill had a song that would play about every hour in a loop of “chill” songs. The song was Fields of Coral. I had never heard anything like it. After a few times hearing it I looked him up on KZbin and then I realized he did 2001 a Space Odyssey and Blade Runner soundtracks. I started listening to as much as I could. I was very sad when he passes because there wouldn’t be and new stuff but thank God there is a treasure trove of his music that will probably take me the rest of my life to search thru and enjoy.
