Well, it's theoretically less cold within the caves than outside. Assuming the Tundra has a standard polar temperature (~10 C), then one can infer that the caves are below 0 C, or around 20 F for sustained freezing while still permitting melting in order for the caves to still actually form. Considering the idea of windchill factor on the surface, one can infer that it feels around -20 C AT LEAST during the day, if the winds are going at a standard 15 KM/H. So, the caves would actually feel warmer than the surface of the tundra. As for how anything survives down there, assuming you are talking about complex life and not bacteria that forms in your freezer, the average Polar Bear can withstand -45 C before cracking. Looking at the Flinxs, it looks like it has an apply shaggy coat. Beyond that, it seems like nothing else 'living' is down there, as it is all skeletons, ice elementals/constructs, or the odd turtle, who I doubt are alive. Anyways, have a good day! Cheers!

@@rory0233 i would assume the tundra day and night is not supposed to be as cold as antarctica or antartida also because the day and night are the same as any other place in the island in terraria so nights would not be as freezing as it could also inside calamity lore the tundra is actually a magic biome because if it were to be so cold to the point of dirt and gras becoming snow then maybe is not as cold as it seems

@@ElDeLasRecargas.2007 Valid points. I just figured it'd be good to go with the absolute worst-case, in that it being Antarctic temperatures. As for the lore, I also took that into account, but I don't think that it was the explosives that MADE the dirt and grass become snow, but rather it was more like a sort of 'Nuclear winter'. In that instance, the explosives would have had a potent FREEZE, which could create permafrost, which explains the silt/slush we can find. However, the explosives would have created a sort of 'Field' around the tundra that did not permit the enviornment to become warm again, like...a nuclear winter. In the instance of a nuclear winter, it is ash and dust that prevents the area from warming up. Similar applies here, albiet on a much smaller scale. As for magic...Well, that's really just more like the thing that seals the deal, in my book. Ice magic prevents the area from warming back up in the long term, explosives caused things to get cold and stay cold for the short term. All mixes together to make a cold, sucky place. The description brought me back to when calamity had a heat and cold system, it was an interesting concept but since you could place walls to bypass the effects it ended up just being tedious. at 0.5 speed it sounds like all soul has been sucked out of the tundra as you have killed everything here. how many more will you slay. at first it just seemed Nobile as you were doing what you were supposed to do. however, you began to follow his footsteps and kill everyone. soon you started feeling powerful as you one hitted God slime skeletron and took any and all life from the desert killing everything in your path. The guide failed to transform into the wof realizing what was going on and you fought him dying many times before slaying him. but that's just calamities first out of many hero's to fall. *14 banners left to collect*
