Problem with venilla is labour intensive if you don't manually pollinate the flowers they will fall off, Price is fluctuating all the time once it is $400 per kg cured sometimes its just $100, In an acre even if you grow 1000 plants and harvest 500kg after curing you will be left with 75kg to 100kg cured dried vanilla at current wholesale market value of $150 to $200 per kg of cured vanilla you sell to industries or middlemen you can make 6 to 7 lakhs per acre after removing all expenses, You could earn more with black peppercorn and arecanut or cocont inter cropping. Majority of high quality of vanilla comes from south america or south Asian countries when they suffer some natural calamities or destruction of crops then there is demand supply mismatch and prices increase next year millions of farmers invest in venilla later producing surplus and prices fall drastically. The better alternative for Indian farmers is to produce crops that are consumed locally which can sell rapidly, Vanilla Although is a lucrative business its not consumed in great quantities here in India, No doubt because of increased consumption of population in our country there may be demand but majority of demand comes from Europe and north America.

Can vanilla be planted in between teak plantations?
@wilsondmello99124 жыл бұрын
I believe yes, few factors here to take care is that water supply, access to pollination after 3 years. Intermediate supports required to make vanilla grow and coil up over the years. We tried in 1997 to 2006 in between coconut and arecanut. Supports we have opted are 8feet concrete poles ( feet burried) between the poles cables were tied and cables were protected with 1inch PVC pipe / irrigation pipe so that when you coil the vanilla on cables it won't cut and smoothly coil.
