I have made over 40 socks and wish I had seen this when I first learned. You showed what could happen and that would have helped when I was learning. I love toe up but it took some practice. "Rebound" is that term you were lookin for 👍. When you overstretch material it won't rebound. Because it doesn't have to do with elasticity, rather the uniform tension and natural stretch the weave gives to the thread it's woven with. If you overstretch it you can pull everything so far out of place that there is no longer a structural integrity to the weave.

I made my first sock just fine, but I made the foot part too long. I had a hard time getting the sock to fit over my ankle/heel area, but the toe fits great. I used the orange loom and my stitch markers were set on the 10th peg from each end. If I put the stitch markers on a different peg, would that help with getting the sock big enough to get over my ankle area? I wear a size 9 shoe.

The top of the sock won't fit over the heel or the actual heel area? If it's the actual heel area, yes moving the st markers out will make the heel area larger. If its actually putting it on then your bind off is to tight

This is an EPIC resources for toe up socks for using this loom!! It would be awesome to have instructions as to how to know where to start and stop the heal, and how to know the rows of knit between the toe and heal and from the heel to top of the sock for different sized feet to get a perfectly fitting sock. I was wondering if loom knitting with the flexee loom links decreasing the toe section by removing links on every other row and just live the ones you don’t decrease and Kitchener stitch those stitches, if you’re working cuff down.🧐

You “could” but with the gauge being different the yarn with have to be thicker than fingering weight. This is where issues come in because not a lot of thicker weight yarn has the nylon in it needed to keep the socks on

How many balls of that yarn for men’s socks? Does the one ball work for most sock pair sizes? I am really excited about this. I keep trying to make socks and various methods are just not working for me… flat knit, magic loop, dpns. I have not used a loom knitter and didn’t plan to but I love how detailed this is. I really appreciate it. Hopefully I can make socks for my family for Christmas! About how long does it take you to make a sock?

You can “typically” get a pair of man’s socks out of one ball of yarn (100g/ 435y-462y some skeins vary in yardage) UNLESS the man has a large foot then you may want to have a separate color for heels, toes, and cuffs. I knit socks both ways- needles and the loom and enjoy both. It usually takes me 3 or 4 days depending on the pattern and what else is going on in my life at the moment lol

No, you would need to measure the sock. Stop short 1 1/2". So if the foot measures 9" then you would knit until your foot measure is 7 1/2"

Yes and no. You will want to have a loom that has a small gauge - 1/4” or 3/16” . The loom also needs to be circular or rectangular….. a rake type loom will not work

In theory, yes, but there are a few things to keep in mind…. Are your calves the same size as your lower leg(ankle area and above)? If not you will need to increase the amount of stitches used to accommodate the sizing difference. My suggestion for knee highs would be to use an adjustable sock loom such as the CinDwood X-loom or the CinDwood universal hat/scarf loom. Both offer a 1/4” gauge which is perfect for socks. The next thing you’ll want to do is measure your ankle/and above area and your calf area this will give you a measurement to achieve. Next you’ll need to make a swatch on the loom you intend to use so that you will get an accurate gauge. You can do this by making a 4”x4” swatch OR by doing several rounds in the loom…..you will then do a little math to get you numbers ( remember that socks should have negative ease) so let’s say that your ankle is 9” around and you are getting 6 stitches to 1” you will do 9x6=54 so I would use 56 pegs for my sock (toe,foot,heel) because most looms typically come in 56 not 54. You would then use the measurements for your calf. Let’s say your calf is 14” so you would do 14 x6=84 so would need to increase 28 stitches to do this measure from where your leg starts to increase in size to the widest part let’s say it’s 7” you would then 28/7=4 so you would increase 4 sts ( you can do this on the sides of the sock by moving your peg counts out) next you will Need to find out how many rows you are getting per inch. Let’s say you are getting 10 rows per inch and you need 7” 10x7=70 rows/rounds to the top of the calve you would increase every 6 rows which would give you 24 stitches, then increase one more time (after 6 rows ) to get to 28. I hope this made sense

Not unless the child has a large foot. With this type of loom the size is conclusive to the diameters of the loom. If you are wanting to make a Childs sock you will need a much smaller loom or a adjustable one

I'm confused around the 32 mark where you stop the video and then come back and have double wrapped the 2 ends and not the middle of the loom? How did you get from one side to the other side without doing the middle, sorry I'm new at this.

You work back and forth on the one side of the loom wrapping the pegs. The middle sts are not wrapped because that is where your toes/heel sit so you don't want to decrease those sts ( wrapped sts are decreasing )

You will continue in the round until you have 1 (or 2 - this depends if you are working your rounds clockwise or counterclockwise) wrapped stitch/es left then you will continue in the round. By doing this you are closing the last stitches off which should not leave holes in your toe/heel

that's personal preference, honestly. I have the circular, the X and a few others. I tend to use the CinDwood Universal hat and scarf loom at 1/4" gauge with both wedges so that I can make two at a time

Hi , I have a question and hopefully someone can help me. I wear a size 9 shoe, I made a pair of beautiful socks with this video ❤️ but I’m confused, my yarn is not wool blend and my socks seem a bit to big. So is there a difference when you use wool yarn versus a 50/50 blend nylon acrylic? Is there a guide to go by? I wanted to make my family socks and I don’t to size them wrong.

The 50/50 blend definitely does not have as much bounce back as a wool blend. I much more prefer a wool blend myself. There is no real guide for socks because everyone has a different circumference. What loom did you use? Orange or purple? Did you start your heel 2” shorter than your desired length? Did you maintain tension? There is a “ruler” called Sock it To Me that gives you a rough estimate of inches for each sock based on shoe size. The only other reference I know of is craft yarn council. Bit these are rough guidelines lines because of foot circumference…..

I’m following this pattern, and want to say thank you! I’m noticing that on the side of the loom where the toe is, it’s very stiff, whereas on the opposite side it’s not stiff, which is more like how my usual projects are. Is the stiffness normal? Did I do something wrong?

You may be pulling the yarn a little to tightly. However, once they are washed and blocked the yarn should relax and soften up. If after blocking they are still somewhat stiff try relaxing your tension on the toe area just a titch

When binding off do that round looser that you would for the rest of the sock. This makes the cuff a little stretchier to allow for putting on
