To shout a round. When you go out with a group of mates, it's common for every to buy a round of drinks. To shout means to pay for.

The origin of the word 'goon or 'goonie' comes from a flagon, which is a large shaped bottle that usually held cheap wine. Nowadays, you get a cheap wine in a cask which has a bladder inside which contains the wine; that bladder is called a goon.

Great reaction - you embraced it for what it was and were pretty good at guessing what they meant too. With the "shout" expression, it's more about the act of doing it ie. buying a round of drinks or meal is obviously a nice, generous thing to do when you're out with family/friends etc but it doesn't mean you shout it from the rooftops so to speak. Which is why they were giving Luke a bit of a hard time because from their experience, he has been on the receiving end of getting a free drink or meal but perhaps hasn't done it in return too much. I admire your desire to use the slang in your own vocabulary and if anyone could pull it off it will be you!! ❤️

I’ll shout ya a round (drinks) buying everyone a beer. I’m shouting.....I’m paying. Larrikin, happy prankster. Flat out like a lizard drinking....going fast in whatever. Old slang... Noah’s ark...shark, swallow-me-whole...crocodile. Not here to fk spiders....my fav.
