Remember the line, "For purple mountains majesty, above the fruited plains," in America the Beautiful? Those purple rocks you saw are part of the untouched landscape of the country.

“America the beautiful” was inspired by pikes peak, the mountains aren’t actually purple like these rocks/boulders, they just appear purple because… _”Distance and haze tend to make mountains in the far distance, bluish to purplish in color. It's about distance, most things do become more blue.” appearing in the distance.”_ and because _”The green, yellow, orange, and red wavelengths pass essentially unimpeded all the way to the ground. The result, as the graphic shows, is a lot of blue and violet light bouncing around in the atmosphere. The more atmosphere between you and a mountain, the more blue that mountain will appear.”_ Ever notice how mountains in the distance look bluish?!

National Park Services in Nevada always recommends hiking with another person or in a group. They always state to never hike alone. Too many people have been hurt or passed away because of their injuries. Luckily, for some people, there are search and rescue teams that help find people injured or lost.

Glad you’re more prepared for this hike. The sand probably comes from runoff during the rain. You’re right about being up top being safer. Don’t forget to protect your ankles too. Boots can prevent ankle injury and protect from stings and bites. Stay safe!

They are altai mountain goats. I'm so glad you got to see them. Enjoy all your journeys. You are right. If you wait for someone to go with you on these beautiful hikes, you will be waiting forever. You are actually safer out there then in the city. I'm not saying that nothing can ever happen but it is not as common. Always be prepared and stay vigilant. You can never be too safe. Looks like Red Rock. I used to go hiking there all the time with our dogs. Lived 5 minutes from it for over 20 years. Enjoy! The view is breathtaking.

Love seeing you out hiking we do quite a bit in Colorado. Love you got to see some mountain goats. I’m surprised you didn’t see any big horn sheep. I would think if they hate mountain goats they’d have those too like we do here. It the summer months the goats and the big horns go high in the winter their lower in elevation to stay cooler in the summer they go high. Loved you video touring Bob Marley pretty awesome. I don't know much about it, but my cousin got very ill & hospitalized the first few months she moved to Nevada. She caught Valley Fever... some kind of fugi with the sand there. With all the heavy breathing walking the trails made me remember that's what made her think she got ill. Be safe, stay hydrated. It looks fun nevertheless!

They were mountain goats and both male and female have horns, not just the billies. Thanks for taking us along on your hike. It was indeed beautiful scenery. The burger looked nice and juicy but I could not eat it with nut butter…not a fan. But the rest looked yummy.
