Love the Murphy bed. That's pretty much exactly the design I've been considering for myself. A bed you can put away fully made and then just flip down to sleep is just perfection, none of that aggravating making-your-bed-twice-a-day stuff, and you don't have to use up 75% of your entire living space on a permanent bed platform. I still want the living area up front as well, and the ability to rotate the front seats, and somewhere in my van I am going to wedge in a shower, and there will be at least one window in the sliding door... but I do like the build choice in this one.
@JarrodTocci6 жыл бұрын
I agree with you but I've said before everyone is different when it comes to personal designs. That's what makes van building so cool 😀
@lorcro20006 жыл бұрын
@@JarrodTocci Yep. And all in all, this is absolutely one of the best, if not even the best, build I've seen. Personal choices like windows or no windows, and using the front seats or not aside, this is an awesome build (aside from the shower which - for me - would be a deal breaker.) The huge Lithium, dedicated alternator, all-electric everything, even floor heat, no propane and just diesel furnace to heat the space - just a dream spec that's probably super easy to live with, and my hat is off to Brandon. I suppose building a few vans has let him drill down to a good setup. I do take some issue with the notion that solar would take 20 days or whatever to fill 600 Ah - sure, if you start from scratch and have tiny solar, maybe, but you can put 3-6-900 watts of solar on top of a van, and rarely does anyone use that much every day. So solar is still very useful even with 600 Ah or more of Lithium - it keeps it topped up making it that much less necessary to run the engine.

This build is being big red up for its design. It's different I agree, and very fancy. LOTS of money spent on it. However, look passed the gloss and the swensha bull. And see the actual WASTE of space!!!! He as not even managed to get a shower in!! And the Murphy bed in fact takes up room more than saves room!!! That complete side of the van is bed. It's fancy but not very good. Certainly not anything to get excited about. ALL those sacrifices for "supposedly" better stealth. When we all know, well those of us that live in vans. That if you park in the wrong area, it makes no difference how " stealthy' you THINK your van is. You get trouble or moved on. It as far to many negative points for me to even consider. The only thing I line about it is the skylight lol
@lorcro20006 жыл бұрын
@@Mrandy8895 I disagree about the Murphy bed. With it, his worktop can extend all the way to the back, and he still fits in a big comfy sofa back there as well. This design has the benefits of a normal convertible bed-sofa while making it much easier to switch between sitting and sleeping, literally flip the bed down or up, since the bedding is already in there. It also has all the amenities you need in a home except for the shower - toilet, fridge, kitchen, etc. I do agree with you that the obsession with being stealthy has gone too far for me personally, but if he's willing to make that sacrifice then that's up to him.

This definitely puts "stealth" in "stealth van," I would absolutely use this approach when looking for/building one of my own in the future. Nothing out, no suspicion, just a nice little "business van" with everything concealed just right in plain sight. The only other thing I could ask for is a shower system, which I would have used part of the closet space for on the toilet side. Maybe something that comes down, so it's not an established part of the van. Other than that it's perfect, I would absolutely take this van. Edit: spelling error, extended on idea.

Jarrod, thank you for another great video. I'm not buying into this guy's authoritative statement that you can't live in a vehicle. Rather than argue the point, others should just consider alternative views. The fact that insurance companies offer policies for full time van dwellers is enough to give you some respite. Montana and a few other states allow you to setup LLC companies to avoid sales tax and have a legal mailing address with services provided by long established providers. In terms of build quality, this a very fine example. It's obvious that most of your viewers, including myself, prefer the shower option. Other features such as the heated floors are outstanding. I find the addition of the electric blanket very thoughtful. I still consider the bed position width vs length to be a better option especially when combined with your workshop layout.

The design is very clean which is nice. I do think that it's not a good design for people that go out for hiking/mountainbiking/snowboarding as you need more storage space and a spot to put your dirty items (bike, shoes, snowboard, wet clothes,..). I do think this design is nice just to travel around to visit cities, beach, walks, .. I saw the comments about a missing shower, but I think that's easy to fix. You hook up a shower head on your sink tap and you can shower outside. During colder days, you can easily take a tub inside or shower at the gym. Maybe he is already doing it that way. I like the bug screen at the door! I like the skylight as well, but I wonder during hot days if a fan is necessary to create low pressure (cooling).

@@orange1872003 A house is an asset. You can depreciate in your taxes (A certain amount each year)--so you pay less on taxes year round. You can depreciate expenses paid on improvements to the house. Get financial incentives to own an actual home. Pass it over to kids without them needing to pay taxes on it later on. Use it as collateral for loans with better terms later on if you want to open a business or get something nicer. GOOD luck trying to do the same with a van. Going to try to depreciate a van that costs 120k? And have it fly over the IRS? There is a limit to how much can be deducted on a vehicle. Also, a banking institution will not take this as collateral for a loan of even 60k. So there is a lot wrong with what you said. I understand where you are coming from but... owning a home? Yeah. Thinking badly of it is folly. The biggest reason people end up millionaires is through real estate and building equity in homes and using said equity/leveraging it and expanding your real estate portfolio (plus renting it out). Need to build that as one big module that can be loaded as one piece straight in through the back, hooked up quickly and roll. I would buy a module right now if available.
@RogueReplicant5 жыл бұрын
The module would have to be customized for each type of vehicle.

Holy shit this is amazing. I’ve never seen a setup with a Murphy bed that made any sense (unless toy hauling) but this is just, wow, amazing is all I can say.
@lorcro20006 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen many in van builds, but you may want to check out the Leisure Travel Vans Wonder model that has a queen-size Murphy bed in it. That's mindblowing. This right here is really outstanding for a van, but that LTV is... whoa. It has a dinette mounted to it that folds away like origami when you drop the bed.

That is an awesome van! So stealth! Great layout and design! With a great Murphy bed!

I LOVE the skylight in lieu of any windows. That alone would cut my stress level by half. Of course, not knowing where I'd be taking my next shower and shampoo would raise the stress level back up, tho.

Seriously sweet van. In these van life videos, I see alot of people comment about the need for a shower. To stay clean between shower availability, just give yourself a sponge bath and you can wash your hair in the sink,if your hair needs to be washed that is. And I really appreciate the feng shui aspect. If it adheres to feng shui principles, I might put more mirrors on the walls to open up the space and for light reflection.

This was one of the first camper van videos i seen, all of which from your channel. Since then ive seen exclusively E350 extended, chevy 2500, Sprinter van camper conversions. Looks nothing like this. But this was still mindblowing when i saw it, had to come back.

I'm 74 and just now considering a van life. I'm impressed with the thought -thru planning. What van? How did you find a competent designer for a second alternator and the ohm-resistant wiring needed for a marine battery to charge?
@coolbeans-vb2ex6 жыл бұрын
Its a lithium battery setup. Why the 2nd alternator...it feeds a current that's not 12V/DC so as to charge quicker & keep the battery healthy.

Hey Jarrod!!! Just trying to get caught back up after the T-Giving holiday. That's a great design but I'm not sure that the price is justified. I didn't see anything there that would make me want to spend anywhere near that price. Someone that is not a minimalist MAY purchase it from him. Be careful out there and Thank you for sharing. ✌️

While it’s illegal to park and sleep in city neighborhood streets IT IS LEGAL TO SLEEP AT REST STOPS FOR UP TO 8 HOURS. Most, if not all, cities have rest stops where you can rest/sleep...Carry on Van Lifers!

+1. .. Wow. .. The van owners minimal aesthetic as demonstrated works for me. .. If ya get an itch for viewing appliances I'd suggest an appliance center. .. The Murphy Bed execution in a van is ingenious. .. A schizophrenic design; I'm a kitchen, no I'm a bedroom, no I'm a van conveyance, no I'm a W Hotel on wheels. . . . . . Impressive design!! .. Cheers, M/S

The most logical van built. You don't need the bed open.whole day wasting precious space.
@colleenkaralee22805 жыл бұрын
yes, and it resolved the annoying only two feet or less of laneway in a Class B, and that counter top could even be narrower in depth. I like a nice balance between open space and necessary furnishings and storage.

That's all nice 'n stuff, but with that kind of space you could've comfortably put in there a full bathroom with a shower. I mean, cmon, it's a normal Fiat Ducato patform, there's plenty of campers wich make bettere use of space. Also, since there're no windows, at that price he could've put 360° surround cameras with a monitor.

@karlchiasson49466 жыл бұрын
@@davesworld7961 I agree that there is a lot of space because of it, but next time you do some cooking try adding a chair in front of your cook top.
@TheMusachioedBrony6 жыл бұрын
Karl Chiasson I thought EXACTLY the same thing! How can I bake with an oven on the floor? Even if I keep the floor meticulously clean, it seems kinda. Also, crouching all the way down to take something out of the oven that is really hot is insanely awkward. And what about the venting for the heat? There is a sofa up above! I have a convex yo em just like that which I use nearly everyday. They get very hot, and that cannot be good for the wood on the sofa. Plus, I didn’t understand how to cook on that cooktop. There is the cushioned seat above. Are you supposed to cook seared. Awkwardly stretch over and constantly strain your back? The cooking situation alone would turn me off immediately.
@lorddread6065 жыл бұрын
If cooking is your main concern in your van then I suggest you go for a different planning. This one is perfect in the utilization of all space in the van and by perfect I mean absolute perfection.
