This spirited man just completed a marathon about 8 hours priorto writing this, he doesn't know why he needed to do another marathon, just had to. One of this spirited man's most enlightening moments came to him during his first marathon, Karl Jung might have called it "integrating the shadow". At another marathon this spirited man dealt with his grief surrounding his younger cousin's passing; the spirited man wanted to honor his cousin by putting her name on his bib, everyone thought his name was "Lauren" and cheered him on by yelling "Go Lauren!" hearing her name yelled at him changed him somehow. 2 more marathons planned. Probably will keep doing them until he destroys his knees or suffers an irreparable injury. Does running suck? Yeah. Has running healed this spirited man's anxitey riddled broken brain? Yeah.

As a runner, it's not for everybody. You have to be able to not think about running but let your mind wander. When you get to that point, it becomes enjoyable.IMO, you should be able to run at least 5 miles. The first miles until you warm up suck. It's after that which is so much better.
@FrankDBoyce3 жыл бұрын
You missed the point friend. He wasn't asking for motivation or telling people to get motivated. He was making a statement about building habits that are vital to your existence. That are inescapable. That you may dislike or wish could go away is immaterial. Habits always win. So go build habits that build you up.
@JewiMacca3 жыл бұрын
@@FrankDBoyce I know that Van's video has a deeper meaning, but I was just simplifying by addressing the title itself. I thought i'd share my thoughts about running because it doesn't have to be a chore and a healthy habit. When you can get that runner's high, it's truly incredible.

@@JewiMacca You are correct. I know it because growing up I had a dad addicted to running. He ran competitive marathons and drug us kids all across 3 states most weekends making it happen. during the ascend he kept the camera facing towards him showing his struggle and difficulties and at descend he shoots from the back showing us what he enjoys and experience in that run.Fabulous!!

This was beautifully made. I also used to run every day and hated it. Probably why I stopped. However, watching your video makes me want to start again. You are right about the runner's high - it only comes at the end of the run when you know it is over.

Van, what I get out of running is the same thing I get out of your movies. That is that it is good for the soul. When running, I do not have that feeling before or during the act, but after I run and throughout the rest of my day, I feel inside of me that what I did it good. I think in this movie you expressed the serenity that someone gets from running and the almost spiritual nature from being with yourself. This movie along with your others gives me a feeling inside of me that I am learning about myself. I thought I would share some of my experiences, and great job with this one!
