takes a very mature shooter to pass on a shot if they do not feel 100% before the trigger squeeze. Good for you brother! I have always loved watching you shoot, but I think I am an ever bigger fan now. And great shooting from the shooter too. Reaching out that far is an amazing feeling!

You are blessed with beautiful country and amazing animals to hunt, not to mention some of the best meat on the planet. Your video takes me back to my youth when I was learning to hunt from older family and friends, to me a sacred rite of passage which I now hope to pass on to my grandsons. Matt, your video and story telling skills make you an ambassador for shooting and hunting sports all over the world. I think I'll get another cup of coffee and watch the video again. Thanks. Jess

Vapor trails are so cool. The damage the lead does is so interesting. I personally would want a soft round for max damage on impact.

Vapor trails. I was shooting my .17HMR in 20mph angling wind at 150yards and decided to shoot video with a 300mm lens on Nikon d7000 for documenting consecutive hits on a 3” steel target. I noticed a “video anomaly” on the 5 hits during editing and zoomed in. Sure enough. A vapor trail. Was 104 degrees and extremely dry (South of the Texas panhandle in the plains). Had no idea it would be visible. I enjoy all your videos, keep it up!!!

I really appreciate you turning down a shot you were not comfortable taking - that epitomizes a true hunter, knowing his limits and not risking wounding an animal. It takes a true sportsman to recognize his limits - more people need to follow your example as it would reduce the number of wounded animals and wasted meat. Keep the videos coming - love watching em (a little jealous I don't live where you do - I'd be in heaven hunting all those critters)

A good video as always, if I had one suggestion though it would be to impress upon the audience how much work goes into the scouting and stalking. Experienced hunters already know, but a lot of people out there might think you just drive out there and take a shot.

Curious on why he chose the Tikka 300 wsm over say something like a 30-06.
@AirArmsHuntingSA6 жыл бұрын
.300 WSM is a much more modern and efficient cartridge
@Physics0726 жыл бұрын
I've heard many say the minuscule gain in velocity of the .300 WSM isn't enough to offset the cost in ammo, ammo availability, steep shouldered casing causing stiffer bolt cycle etc. I suppose if you do the extra work to reload the wsm is a little better.

What chocks me, as a swedish hunter, is the use of MATCH bullets for hunting. Sure, they might expand or might not. But they are not made for hunting. Laws here are quite strict, a bullet has to be made to expand. Also even though the ELD-M expands, its hardly a bullet i would use for meat. Just imagine all the lead that it spreads through the entire body of the animal. I have seen X-rays of animals shot by bonded (chemicaly, or trophy bonded like norma oryx) and they still spread lead far around the body and not just 10cm from the wound.
@AirArmsHuntingSA5 жыл бұрын
Henrik Johansson The problem is that most “hunting” bullets wouldn’t expand at longer ranges. European hunter’s don’t normally have to shoot very far at all - Your rifle and scope designs show that pretty clearly. We have some innovative piston-tip monolithic, lead-free bullet designs to combat the very problem you speak of, but the manufacturers will admit that they don’t perform at long range. It is difficult to achieve proper expansion at both close and long range, you almost need to have different loads for different situations. I have chosen Hornady ELD-Xs because they expand just enough to put an animal down humanely but don’t seem to fragment. But if your shot placement is good, most lead fragments should end up in the chest cavity and not in the edible meat.

I support hunting but I have trouble with the ethics of taking ultra long distance shots (excess of 400 meters). Too easy to maim and prolong the suffering of these majestic animals. Why didn't you show the placement of the first shot? Looked off to me.
@woogieman026 жыл бұрын
Mark Kokkoros then don't shoot our that far. Simple as that, if you are not comfortable shooting at those ranges dont. But don't try and make others feel bad for your limited abilities. Go shoot more and become more comfortable shooting at extended ranges and grow as a shooter
@AirArmsHuntingSA6 жыл бұрын
I feel more comfortable taking a shot at 500m with time to set up, range and get comfortable as opposed to “scare and shoot” where you try to get to 50m and then have to take a rushed shot. I have only wounded/lost one animal in all my years of hunting and it was a shot that I had to take from close.
@nicoharris25716 жыл бұрын
Hi. Nico here. I shot those two deer. First shot is in far back and out just behind the shoulder. We always shoot to miss the shoulders- we use the meat and try to limit meat damage. If the shot was bad i would claim it and not try to cover it up. We do a lot of hunting groups every year- i have more wounded animals at less than 100yds than i have at further than 400 yards. We shoot atleast 50-100 shots practicing for every 1 shot at a animal. We do our homework , practice a lot and don’t take chances or risky shots.
@adambeck57042 жыл бұрын
I've hunted my entire life, but this is NOT hunting. It's shooting. Try some actual hunting boys and get about 600 yards closer, if you up for the challenge. Shooting animals at 700 yards is very irresponsible. This gets a huge thumbs down.
