My pre match smile vanished when I saw Michael Oliver appear in the tunnel. It really is like clockwork with that guy and Arsenal, not even a shock that in the same match we saw a similar but worse tackle by Joao Gomes, which should have seen a straight red but Oliver only gave a second yellow (would have been a 3rd yellow since Oliver didn't give a second for kicking the ball away earlier in the half, something there is zero chance an Arsenal player would have got away with). VAR deserves plenty of blame for choosing to protect the on field ref rather than make the correct call, but Michael Oliver deserves plenty himself because he very obviously has different standards for Arsenal than any other Club. Nobody wants abuse of officials but if PGMOL wont hold them accountable when they very obviously screw up, there are fans out there that will.

Now, PGMOL wants to hide behind some fans who abused The referee Oliver and hide away from the actual problem. PGMOL needs to be investigated and punished if corruption is proved.

Team that dives, times wastes all the time season after season, cynically fouls and cheats all the time gets refereed differently to other teams that by & large play by the rules. Fascinating insight.

Yet now, a couple days later when PGMOL has a chance to admit, "you know what, our system failed that time, we don't really want to set the bar that low for reds, after all, a similar, arguably more aggressive challenge in the same game was deemed a yellow," what do they do, they double down suggesting it was the right call! Can't blame just VAR when the whole system is broken!

It stinks right from the top to bottom. The CEO of referee support could answer why Gomez got a yello card and Lewis Skelly a red card yet they want accountability for people sending threats only but they are dodging accountability themselves

Michael Oliver is biased against Arsenal. It's about time he's called out. He was the same referee when Kovacic wanted to destroy Odegaard and Jorginho. He did nothing. Howard Webb said this after the game on his biased Sky TV show with Michael Owen: "'But he was extremely fortunate to stay on the field. (Oliver) doesn't want to have a negative impact on the game by overreacting to something… but it is also true that if you under-react you have a negative impact. 'He will realise the second one should have been a yellow card, which would have seen Kovacic sent off.' Criticizing Oliver is not abuse...

When a player like Drogba turns up in big games, we call them a big-game player. When a manager like Emery wins finals, we call them a cup specialist. When a player disappears in big games, we call it out. It’s bizarre to say that Michael Oliver isn’t an Arsenal game decision error specialist.

Exactly this. I don’t understand why people think he is. At most he’s a forward like Trossard was at Brighton and he’s doing a pretty decent job. All of this aside, out and out forward is definitely needed since 2 seasons ago.

Honestly. I hate they put him up front. We should not have sold nket if we didn’t have a striker to replace him and HAVERTZ is not a replacement. He should be forming a pairing with odegard in the mid right now.

Was the red card a clear and obvious error? Based on the polarized comments online, it wasn’t. Darren England doesn’t have the authority to force the ref to review it if it’s not clear and obvious. Stop blaming VAR if you don’t even understand its role and guidance from the league. The league would be better off eliminating the VAR official entirely and go to a limited challenge system. Arteta could challenge the decision and Oliver would have to review the replay and decide.

Apparently you are now allowed to just take someone out studs up, nowhere near the ball?....He didn't trip him, he didn't block him off, it wasn't a tactical foul....he went in, foot up and studded the guy across his leg & ankle...it's not a stretch that its serious foul play....stop this nonsense....yes, look at the challenge....honestly struggling to understand what people a watching

It's a red card all day long, makes no attempt whatsoever to play the ball goes straight for the player. Endangering an opponent is a straight red it's a cowards tackle. The ball is in a different postcode by the time contact is made right in front of the ref. Players acting shocked, they're not reffing the game themselves, dikhed pundits deeming it a yellow maybe orange he's young.... Whatever it's a red.
