for normal diode p n junction diode , doping is uniformly,but in case of varactor diode the concentration of impurity near PN junction is very less and gradually increase as we move toward the layer's other surface.. that's the difference

I've a doubt sir.. varactor diode is a normal PN junction diode..so when reverse voltage is increased why does the depletion region acts as an insulator? And why can't depletion region in zener diode(PN junction) can act as insulator too?

Zener diode has very high doping so when reverse voltage is applied it gets breakdown at very low reverse voltage. This breakdown in normal and varactor diodes takes place at high reverse voltage. Although functioning is same.... Difference is of amount of doping.
