February 23, 2024: The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, was visited Varanasi to lay the foundation stone for package 1 of the ambitious Varanasi Ranchi Kolkata Expressway.
The six-lane expressway is one of the main road projects the government focuses on. The foundation stone for package one will be laid today., i.e., February 23, 2024; the allocated budget for the construction is set at Rs 1,317 crore. The package includes the construction of the 27-kilometer road known as the Green Belt. Once the expressway is complete, the travel time between Varanasi and Kolkata will be just 7 hours!
601 km Varanasi - Kolkata Expressway by NHAI is a proposed 4/6/8 lane access-controlled highway with a route alignment connecting Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, Ranchi in Jharkhand, and Kolkata in West Bengal.
