I feel like that Pokemon Diamond bootleg of Telefang is something a lot of people growing up in the early 2000's came across. A friend of mine had it on a bootleg cart that had entirely legit games, except for that. And if I remember right my friend was genuinely convinced it was a legit obscure Pokemon game. Of course we were like 9 years old but still.

Both of bad translated Pokemon gold had made based on the Japanese version, I guess. In the Japanese version, a number of characters of Pokemon's name had been limited to 5 (now is 6). So Pokemon's name is supposed to be weird to observe that limit. Cyndaquil(Hinoa) is ヒノアラシ(Hinoarashi), Totodile(Wani) is ワニノコ(Waninoko) and Chikorita(Chico) is チコリータ(Chicolita or Chikolita). In other words, the Japanese name was probably transcribed into English and the first five characters were used as the name except some. NUT GET!

I've never seen anybody else play this ever! I've always wanted to dump the ROM myself, but never had the equipment to do so... Funnily enough, the save battery is still good over 20 years later! The translations start out a bit odd and slowly degenerate into the worst gibberish ever, and it's hilarious. I remember one time battling my friend on a real version of gold and it had some pretty fucking WILD glitches and corruptions! All the move and item names were messed up and I remember one of the moves being called TOBACCO

About the game Serpent, the gameplay is a little weird (I like that game for some reason) : - You press LEFT to go 90° on the left and A to do 90° on the right. The B button launch some missiles if you grabbed those. - Unlike a regular Snake game, the idea is not to make the enemy eat his own body but to make him unable to move for a few seconds.

Those Pokémon Gold/Silver fan-translations date of a time back when Pokémon games (or games in general) didn't release have a world-wide release, so bootleg copies were rushed to fill the gap until the official localization I remember seeing those all the way up to Pokémon Platinum's release

Holy shit I legitimately had that silver bootleg as a kid and this is the first time I've seen someone else play it (and Dr Joey of all people!). I knew for sure it was the one because outside of the bizarre corrupted Pokémon names the most vivid thing I remember is YOU FIND.......WOO I got it from a dodgy electronics store in Lanzarote (fun fact, they used acidic ink on their receipts that melted a few hours after buying something) as it hadn't come out in the UK yet. I remember the guy letting me test it to show it worked, but only up to the title screen. I discovered pretty soon why! I was too young to comprehend how there could be a fully functional, brand new Pokémon game that also had the most broken English and it legitimately ruined Johto era Pokémon and subsequently Pokémon as a whole from then on lmao I still have the cartridge but it doesn't seem to boot anymore
