What kind of tuba is that? I've never seen one with sliding valves before. I've seen rotory valve tubas and so forth but never a slide valve tuba

It's an F that requires extra levers on the valve slides to "make it work" intonation wise. People accasionally pay a shocking amount of money for horns with intonation...challenges.

Just to be clear, I'm not criticizing him for his horn choice. I don't understand it, but he sounds phenomenal. In fact, he probably has better ears than I do. I chose my compensating Eb(strange in the states) because I like simple intonation tendencies with less slide acrobatics required.

As a tuba player for more than five years I have to say this is quite impressive. I am currently practicing Sonate 1 by Paul Hindemith for tuba and there are a few similar arpeggiating jumps but not at such ranges, that being said I can also play that high C but it is a feat to pinch it out of the blue, well done.
