"slightly". Row 11 looks more like inside the headset now. Thank you Sebastian. But to be honest... kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHLLYpmXirp2ras is still way off. The 8kx and the Reverb are much closer and both are still out of focus....I appreciate that you try and it is difficult to film through the lens, but people base their decision of what they buy on videos like this

I do wish Varjo would make a consumer version, even if that just meant dropping the subscription and the Super High Resolution focus display to lower the price entry a bit.

It's almost like Varjo discovered a gold mine, with the biggest clusters of diamond rock meshed together, and then varjo decides to build a fence around it and leave it as is. If they would decide to make a consumer version, they will instantly skyrocket and become the world's most valuable company. I mean I would actually consider paying $3000 for it. Only thing that puts me of is that yearly business fee. They should not sleep too much though, as we speak a few dozen Chinese companies have stripped their devices open and copying it.

Well this is the problem with these new headsets, and new technology, it's needs at least 3-10years to be at a price where everyone can buy it, until than vr will be just a very expensive hobby, and there are not even high budget games where you need a headset like this.
@JamimaPanAm
@JamimaPanAm 3 жыл бұрын
@@UmbraWeiss Yes, unless it is subsidized, the cost is a big issue for the consumer. However, the immaturity of the games market is not so bad. Big budgets are risk averse, and AAA releases are fairly stagnant for flatscreen. Smaller teams are taking great creative risks in VR right now, and it is a golden age of sorts. They are piloting tomorrow's genres for bigger budgets.

As a Reverb G2 owner, that Varjo VR-3 is just stunning, even compared to the G2. But even if they were selling them to the public, no way in hell are we going to buy one for anywhere even remotely close to 3000 euro. Get it under half that price and we'll see. Still, nice to see VR HDM development advancing. Thanks for the letting us know about the new (v2) cable for the Reverb G2 (to sort out AMD USB issues) - I only noticed this recently. I got my free replacement yesterday and everything excellent so far.

Really appreciate your professionalism in re-doing this video Sebastian. I was one of the ones in the VR3 Discord that brought up the 8KX discrepancy in what I felt was an incorrect comparison of its clarity (G-Man85). To be clear, I'm mainly talking of the still images. I also confirmed this last night in this same ROV app on my 8KX, and had taken a through the lens pic to also add to the discord, but you beat me to it with your re-upload haha. This is much closer to what I see (not the hellsplit comparison though). Still not quite as good as i see, but I also realised how hard it is last night to get a good through the lens shot, so I am happy in what you have presented as now being close enough, as I'm sure it is difficult in the other headsets too (maybe not the VR3 haha ; p). So again, well done Sebastian. We really appreciate your effort and openess to admit and address flaws. A very good trait to have, and why we enjoy your channel. Keep it up mate! :D PS: and yes, again, please make us a consumer VR3 Varjo! These would sell like hot cakes! @@gregprouse1173 yeah, you're GPU can't push full resolution in most games. I would guess around 60-70% of the resolution more like it. you can force 100% resolution in Steam VR, but you might get a headache from the low fps. Also, VR can become blurry if you don't have perfect eye-sight. My brothers condition was reversed in the headset, in real life he has difficulties focusing afar. But in the Reverb G2 he had trouble focusing up-close. So there's definitely many parameters to consider when it comes to VR. I have perfect eye-sight and the Reverb G2 is increadibly sharp... not like real life, but for VR it's amazing. :)

The biggest problem with G2 is a sweet spot Pimax 0:48 vs G2 1:28 vs Varjo 2:30 - just look at the upper left corner and these labels. With G2 everything is excellent but in the very narrow window - the sweet spot is so small that everything outside it is just a mess :/ The conclusion is: just wait as some company will make a headset like Varjo but for the people. the still image of the 8kx in the side by side at 3'58 isn't a fair comparison at all- it's a still of the 8kx in motion and blurred because of the motion- the icon for hellsplit arena in the side by side comparison for the 8kx is blurred but when you go back to the actual 8kx footage when the hellsplit arena icon is still/not moving and in the sweet spot at 0'36 it's much clearer and sharper than the G2 side by side still shot and very close to the vr-3 still shot in the side by side which is much more accurate- having the 8kx myself I know it's tack sharp most of the time especially with sharpening added with the FSR mod- go back to those two points in the video as proof and watch in 4k on a large screen- also the vr-3 has better edge to edge clarity vertically but less so horizontally- blurs much sooner on the horizontal plane (which may be related to the distortion of the aspherical lenses)- so all in all the 8kx is much better value at less than a quarter the VR-3 price, especially when the 8kx comes with a much bigger, immersion enhancing fov with clarity which is one of the best going and almost as great as te VR-3- certainly great enough for 99% of all vr games - what resolution did you set the 8kx to? increase moderately above 100% steam resolution and the ppd matches or surpasses the G2 anyway

The Varjo is an amazing VR headset - I would need to win the Lotto to buy one of those if consumers could even buy it - plus you have to pay a yearly fee. I have the HP Reverb G2 V2 and if the Sweet Spot was wider would also be good. Looking straight ahead in the G2 is good, but making my eyes look to the sides or up/down I can really see the blurriness of the lenses. I do SIM racing with the G2 and I move my head instead of just my eyes and works out pretty good, but I still notice the scenery to the sides being blurry. The Pimax is also too costly for me with needing to setup and use Base Stations and controllers at extra cost. Thanks for this video and great comparisons. Take care.

It's an interesting comparison (I watched the original video) but each headset has a purpose. I have both the G2 and the 8KX. The G2 is the best at the price point hands down. The 8KX has the best FOV but doesn't match the G2 for crispness but has a bigger sweet spot. It's also twice the price of the G2. The Varjo clearly has superb clarity but is twice the 8KX price with a subscription plan that gamers don't need and no audio system at all so that's a miss. Therefore "Best" is subjective as ever.

Varjo is best, but over 3X the price of the 8KX when factoring in the subscription. 8KX > G2 when 8KX settings are dialed in. Very little clarity loss, bigger sweet spot, gorgeous colors.. and huuuuuge FOV. Not subjective at all. Can't use my G2 anymore with the toilet paper roll FOV. ; ) LOL!
@tomholy
@tomholy 3 жыл бұрын
I agree it is subjective, it pretty much always is. Also there is the issue of how much computing power you need to run each one. Sebastian even mentioned this with a setting on the Varjo at 8:55 where he talked about needing a 4090 to be able to run that setting. For those that don't know, the 4090 is the Nvidia 4090 graphics card not yet released and you will need a good bank balance to get one. In my humble opinion the G2 is at a sweet spot in giving excellent results on a standard gaming computer most gamers can afford. Increasing FOV, pixel's per eye add to what you need to run the headset, it's pretty much that simple.

I think the next phase for VR is going to be VR glasses, where it has the lenses and very thin LCD/OLED screens, super fast miniature cpu and some very light covering, which will make it possible to wear the "glasses" on daily basis and then even in a small studio apartment like mine it will convert it into anything I can imagine, it could be a 5 star hotel room, a room on the enterprise, a studio on mars and then further with "object recognition technology", that's bound to be invented, that will enable existing objects to be recognised in VR and then enable a VR room that a person can fully interact with and live in. I'm waiting for that. Please let me know when it's available for consumers 👍

Very nice test, thank you. It confirms what I have observed when I rented the G2 for testing. There are some advantages and disadvantages to VR. However. The G2 is considered the best visual quality among the affordable headsets. I don't know what I expected but I was kind disappointed. First, everyone knows that the image quality of fresnel-lenses is poor. I would pay ~400$ more for getting higher quality lenses. Second the PD is adjustable (which is a very nice feature) but also only to 67mm PD. My wife (optrician) measured 68.2mm for me which means I will always have issues getting highest possible sharpness. Third there is no dioptre correction which makes it hard for ppl with hyperopia since they would heave to wear their glasses under the headset. I really would love to spend the few bugs on the G2 but I think VR is not quite there yet.

In what resolution of the goggles did you make this comparison, because Reverb G2 work natively in 6k 6300x3300 for 100% Supersampling, and 4k for 50% Supersampling. The comparison should be made for the same set resolution of 3 goggles according to fpsVR. Was it so? 🤔🤔🤔

I wonder if both the HP Reverb G2 and the PIMAX 8KX would benefit similarly if they too had aspherical lenses instead of Fresnel lenses. I would love it if Varjo produce a consumer version for us gaming mortals even if it had a slightly lower resolution that could run decently on GTX1080 or above GPUs at a sub $1000 price point.

To be “clear,” aspheric lenses are (usually) custom designed lenses with non-spherical surfaces. Spherical surfaces are much easier to grind in a lens shop, but they suffer from spherical & chromatic aberrations. Spherical lenses are still better than fresnel lenses however, which suffer from god rays. I expect aspheric lenses will be the trend going forward, possibly using injection molded optical plastics to keep the cost down

I think the biggest difference is the aspheric lenses, the distortion in other headsets is caused by the fresnel lenses. unfortunately I'd imagine that aspheric lenses cost 1-300 per eye on top of everything which is why they are not mainstream

Most VR HMD r scrapping OLED for LCD cause LCD is better than OLED for colour. Compare the CV1 with its OLED screen and the rift S with LCD. a lot clearer on the LCD rift S. Same with TV's my samsung 1080P 3D LCD is far better quality than my 4k LG OLED.

The Varjo looks fantastic but the max IPD is not over 70mm, and it is not available for gaming. Maybe okay if they increase the max IPD and release a gamer version. HP Reverb G2 has a face plate that is too narrow for a larger head and the max IPD is too small at 68mm, it is uncomfortable, with a narrow FOV. I've tried the Vive Pro 2, it has too small max IPD and a very small lens focal point. I brought a Pimax 8KX and I think it is the best choice, fantastic flexibility with adjustment to many settings, max IPD 70mm + software increase, and lenses with a large focus area, and it runs fine on a RTX2080.

Personally I would rather see a HP Reverb G3. Even if it was twice the price of the current G2 (which would make it around $1000), surely it would be better value than say a Varjo for $2000 or I doubt $1500. If HP managed to fix 3 issues I find annoying with my G2. One being lack of ventilation ducts (needs fan also maybe), as when trying to do any high energy gameplay or fitness programs in colder weather the headset fogs up terribly (also fogs prescription lenses making it twice as bad), to the point you cannot see. Second being the smaller controller buttons (usually used for bringing up SteamVR menu) rattle in the housing and can inadvertently activate when moving controller around rapidly (very annoying), also the tracking rings are a bit on the large side and can clash together (whole controller could be a bit sturdier). Thirdly as Seb has mentioned before the tracking needs to be changed to infrared and not visible light and camera positions altered slightly, currently while pretty good I find the tracking glitches in and out when hands are held straight down by your side (I hold my hands crossed in front of me when at rest to avoid this problem). The Reverb G2 is my first headset so I have nothing to compare it to with regard to FOV, however I don't have any issues with it's picture at all, it has amazing clarity and bright colors. However if there was a G3 one would assume some improvements would be made in the lenses/sweetspot/FOV departments as well. Come on HP show us what you can do!!!

I NEED a consumer version of the VARJO VR-3 for the current prices of that headset and just the headset alone along with the subscriber is outworldly ridiculous (5000euros plus 1500euros per year subscription). They MUST release a consumer version that we can purchase for $2,299 after tax including two handsets, chargers and all other necessary connections and appliances. This also need to not come with a subscription, screw that! We want the very best of the best and at that price I'll buy it today. Heck. I'll be happy to do a review of the Varjo VR3 if the company reach out to me. Maybe they could cut me a special deal on one of their used models under second hand sales or something. I don't know know but I want that device.
